Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 418 - 411: Farewell
Chapter 418: Chapter 411: Farewell
Although Lin Wei did not want to punish Luo’er, Luo’er still felt guilty. His stubbornness had led to the mission’s failure. As a soldier, obedience to superiors came first. However, his personal feelings had caused the capture mission to fail. Every time he thought about it, he felt deeply ashamed.
Of course, letting Luo’er off the hook is a sight that Lin Wei should not witness. Even though Lin Wei wouldn’t say anything, it would be better to avoid any suspicion. Otherwise, Lin Wei’s words would seem worthless and nobody else would listen to him.
He and Wang Xu had just walked out of the confinement room when a slim figure rushed over. Before Luo’er could react, he was grabbed by the arm by this figure and dragged back into the confinement room.
"What’s happening?" Seeing that Shangguan Jiu had suddenly appeared and dragged Luo’er back into the confinement room right before his eyes, Wang Xu turned his head to ask Li Si, who was panting heavily after catching up.
"Um, that girl says she needs to see Luo’er. They’re about to go back to Earth with the Chief." After catching his breath, Li Si said, patting his waist.
"And you just brought her here?" Wang Xu asked.
"She said she wouldn’t leave until she saw Luo’er," Li Si shrugged helplessly.
"This guy really does have all the luck with girls," Wang Xu said, shaking his head as he looked at the closed door of the confinement room.
"Um, you should guard the corner, don’t let anyone come, especially the girls!" After thinking it over, Wang Xu ordered Li Si.
"Don’t even let those two girls from the Advance Team come?" Li Si asked.
"Especially those two. If you can deceive them and send them away, do so!" Wang Xu replied.
"Er, boss, I always feel like you’re trying to play matchmaker in a messy manner," uncertainly, Li Si blurted out.
"What do you know, I’m doing this for Luo’er," Wang Xu turned to look back at him and then continued, "I know Luo’er, the guy won’t mess around. He’s clear about what’s what. We don’t need to worry."
"But messing around with relationships between men and women violates discipline." Li Si stated his worry.
"Don’t you know Luo’er’s character by now? If he was the kind to mess around, he would be the king of harem by now!" Wang Xu waved his hands dismissively, speaking flippantly.
Seeing Wang Xu’s confident expression, Li Si didn’t argue further. He glanced at the confinement room and then looked at Wang Xu, before leaving the area anxiously.
As soon as he reached the corner, Tangmo and Baiyue, the two girls from the Advance Team, appeared. They grabbed Li Si’s arm desperately as if grasping at straws, asking anxiously, "Where is Luo’er? I heard he got expelled."
"Luo’er is just in confinement. Don’t go over there and stir things up, okay?" Seeing the two girls charging in the direction of the confinement room, Li Si hurriedly stopped them.
"But..." Tangmo was deeply worried.
"Rest assured, it’s not as serious as you think. It’s just a period of confinement. You don’t have to worry too much. Look, the boss is still guarding the door. As the saying goes ’there are policies, and there are countermeasures.’ Once the Chief has left, Luo’er will be freed." Li Si tried to reassure her.
"Then I would rather be confined with him!" Tangmo said firmly.
Baiyue beside her also nodded vigorously in agreement. For them, this was a golden opportunity. If they could be alone with Luo’er, he wouldn’t even have a place to escape.
"Stop causing trouble, okay," Li Si spread his arms to stop them and warned, "The Chief could come back at any moment. If he sees you stirring things up, not only Luo’er but all of us will be in trouble. In that case, Luo’er’s punishment could be more severe."
"But..." Tangmo was still reluctant.
"Go back and wait for news. Luo’er will be fine. Once the Chief has returned to Earth, this place will be our territory. The boss will naturally release Luo’er then." Li Si advised sincerely.
"Alright then," Hearing his promise, the two girls reluctantly prepared to leave. Before leaving, Tangmo urged anxiously, "You have to be kind to Luo’er. Don’t let him freeze or starve. I’ve been in there before, the air is stuffy, open a window so he doesn’t suffocate. And also..."
"We’ll do everything, you don’t need to remind us!" Li Si interrupted her rambling.
"If he stays there at night, remember to give him a blanket. It’s really cold these nights. If he feels sad, you must talk to him. If you don’t want to talk to him, let us keep him company..." Tangmo continued to prattle on.
"I know, I know, I know everything..." Li Si was almost moved to tears. Why couldn’t any girl be so considerate towards him?
Inside the confinement room, Luo’er, facing the close proximity of Shangguan Jiu, felt very nervous. His heart was beating wildly without any facade. He leaned against the wall and Shangguan Jiu looked up at him. Their distance was no more than a few centimeters. The light came in through the window, shining on their faces. Luo’er could clearly see the tear-filled eyes of Shangguan Jiu.
"You..." After a moment of silence, Luo’er still decided to take the initiative to speak up.
"I’m about to leave. The Chief gave me ten minutes to say goodbye, so I came to find you right away," Shangguan Jiu deepened her breath, bowing her head as tears spilled from her eyes and splashed onto the floor.
"I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. That’s why you all will..." Despite everything, Luo’er instinctively apologized.
"After I leave, will you remember me?" Shangguan Jiu interrupted him with a low voice.
"Of course, I will!" Luo’er answered without hesitation.
"Big liar!" retorted Shangguan Jiu.
"Last time I told you how I felt about you, and the time before. You didn’t remember either, yet the number of girls around you keeps growing," Shangguan Jiu said, sniffling in self-pity.
"My relationships with them are... all normal!" Luo’er spoke, sounding a bit guilty.
"Like our normal relationship?" Shangguan Jiu looked up, her eyes red-rimmed. Her deep purple irises seemed abyss-like, harboring endless sorrow.
"No, our relationship..." Luo’er looked into her soft eyes, blushing hard and subconsciously turning his head. "Our relationship... should be deeper..."
"How deep compared to your relationship with Sister Moumou and the others?," Shangguan Jiu persistently asked.
"Uh, I..." Luo’er didn’t dare look at her, suddenly at a loss for words.
Seeing Luo’er unable to face her, Shangguan Jiu gently wiped away her tear stains, lowered her head, tightly gripped his clothes, and asked in a low voice, "Luo’er, tell me, am I still worth waiting for?"
"I...", Luo’er turned his head, not knowing how to answer her. Because he knew if he said no, this might be their final farewell. Although, if he said yes, wouldn’t that make it seem like he was too fickle?
As they both stood quietly, Shangguan Jiu leaned into Luo’er in an almost invasive posture, anxious to hear his answer. The light shone through the curtains, and Luo’er could see tiny points of light floating in the air.
After a long silence, Luo’er decided to follow his heart. He hesitated, and finally answered, "Yes..."
"You said..." Hearing this, Shangguan Jiu’s tears gushed out once again. She released Luo’er’s robe, wiping her tears non-stop.
She looked up at Luo’er, constantly blinking through teary eyes and sniffling as tears began to drip from her nose.
"Regardless of how many other girls you meet in the future, my significance in your life must not be diminished!" Shangguan Jiu said, looking at him.
"I know..." Luo’er nodded earnestly, looking at her.
Upon hearing his answer, Shangguan Jiu cradled his cheeks in her hands. She mustered her courage, locked eyes with Luo’er, took a deep breath, and rose on tiptoes, slowly approaching his lips.
However, just as she rose, she immediately felt too shy and drew back. Looking into Luo’er’s eyes, she found the courage to stand on her tiptoes again, gently pressing down on his face.
This time they were less than five centimeters apart but, at the last moment, Shangguan Jiu chose to retreat. She bowed her head, covering her mouth with her hand, and let out a disheartened sob.
After a long silence, she lifted the hand that had been covering her mouth and placed it over Luo’er’s lips. Her palm was warm and wet with her tears.
After doing all of this, she was no longer able to suppress her emotions. She abruptly turned away from Luo’er and rushed out of the room. Wang Xu, who had been eavesdropping at the door, was startled by her sudden exit and watched in shock as she left the corridor.
Soon after, Luo’er emerged from the confinement room. His face somber, his lips still damp. Seeing his resentful gaze, Wang Xu hastily waved his hands, "I didn’t hear anything, I was just guarding the door, I didn’t eavesdrop!"
Luo’er just rolled his eyes, not bothering to argue. He sighed softly and slowly walked back into the confinement room, closing the door behind him.
"Hey, are you planning on shutting yourself in?" Wang Xu approached the door and knocked.
"Leave me alone for a bit," came Luo’er’s weak voice from behind the door, as if he had just exhausted all his strength.
"Humph, youth, the springtime of life..." Wang Xu shook his head. He had spent most of his life in the military, with no chance for love. Thus, he couldn’t relate to Luo’er’s current emotional distress.
Since Luo’er had appeared, he had felt a sense of responsibility to raise and nurture him. This responsibility had caused him to lose interest in romance over the past two decades, focusing solely on supporting Luo’er.
