Chapter 415 - 408: The Furious Lin Wei
Chapter 415: Chapter 408: The Furious Lin Wei
The carriage traveled along the road, taking two full weeks to reach the outskirts of Yazhi City where the frontline headquarters were located. Wang Xu and Li Si, who had received the news, were waiting at the entrance early. Seeing Luo’er and others get out of the carriage, they greeted them proactively.
"It seems like you’ve pulled off another trick and brought back some more young girls?" Wang Xu looked at the heap of girls standing next to Luo’er and couldn’t help but make a sarcastic comment.
"Stop saying nonsense, I’m adding bricks to the building of our headquarters’ plan." Luo’er quickly explained.
"I really can’t do anything with you. Had I known this I wouldn’t have told you about the plan. Everyday you’re moving your harem into headquarters," Wang Xu sighed.
"I’ve said it countless times that it’s not a harem! What the heck are you imagining in your head!" Luo’er replied helplessly. Then he introduced the three girls standing in front of them one by one.
"This is Feliz, you should have met before, she is a student of Shariya, the dean." Luo’er introduced.
"What did she come for?" Wang Xu asked.
"She came to study abroad!" Luo’er answered.
"Study abroad?" Wang Xu looked at him with a blank expression.
"Uhm, she said that she isn’t good at magic, so she wants to come here to study Earth culture." After thinking for a bit, Luo’er explained.
"Did her family agree to this?" Wang Xu asked.
"Uhm, actually, no!" After hesitating for a moment, Luo’er decided to tell the truth.
"This is kidnapping!" Wang Xu said.
"Don’t say it like that, Dean Shariya agreed to it. This should be considered as... an exchange student program, like Sacred Heart Magic Academy’s. After all, Dean Shariya has also helped train mages for us." Luo’er clarified.
"You, this fella..." Wang Xu gave him a glance, then looked at Feliz, and continued with his questioning. "So does she genuinely want to study Earth culture?"
"Absolutely!" Luo’er nodded in response.
"Alright then!" Wang Xu nodded, he still had that small power of decision.
"Did he agree?" Feliz pulled on Luo’er’s clothes and quietly asked. Because they were talking in Chinese, she couldn’t understand a word, she only noticed that Wang Xu nodded.
"Yes!" Luo’er nodded.
Continuing with the introductions, he said: "This is Zhenli, a snow elf hybrid, thirteen years old this year, she should meet the requirements of the Mingming plan, right?"
"Thirteen years old..." Wang Xu scrutinized Zhenli a bit, she looked about five or six years old. However, it could be understood since she is a snow elf hybrid. Because when Luo’er was at her age, he wasn’t any different, both looking quite young.
"Alright..." Wang Xu nodded, signaling his agreement.
"And the last one," Luo’er said as he brought Daier over, "This is Daier, she assisted me during my time at the Academy. So, this is my personal request, please arrange a job for her, a job as a maid would be fine."
"You seem to have a taste for all ages." Wang Xu couldn’t help but tease.
"I already told you, it’s not like what you’re imaging!" Luo’er defended helplessly.
"Hello, my name is Daier, I... I want to work here, any job is okay." Daier couldn’t understand what they were saying. She timidly approached and spoke up.
"Daier, is it?" Wang Xu looked at her once. His intuition told him that the Masya girl standing before his eyes seems very simple and straightforward, without any ulterior motives.
"Yes, it is." Daier dared not look at Wang Xu. This was her first time seeing a person with black hair and black eyes, but every time she glanced at him, her heart would thump excessively.
"Alright, Li Si, you take care of them." Wang Xu waved his hand, indicating Li Si to handle the three girls.
"Understood, ladies, please follow me!" Li Si nodded and left with them.
"Luo’er, come here!" After the pleasantries, Wang Xu gestured for him to come over.
"What happened?" Seeing his expression, Luo’er’s heart skipped a beat, his instinct told him something was amiss.
Wang Xu pulled him aside, looked around, and then asked him, "Tell me, why did you let Fu’en escape?"
"I..." Luo’er was startled for a moment, and said guiltily, "I didn’t let him escape..."
"You still deny it. The Church Court has already spoken. They were willing to help the Advance Team capture Fu’en and bring him back to the headquarters, but you refused their help, insisting on capturing him yourself. And in the end, you failed." Wang Xu frowned, lowering his voice.
"I haven’t even mentioned how they weren’t willing to help in the past, which resulted in us failing twice." Upon hearing that the Church Court was playing victim, Luo’er protested indignantly.
"That’s not the point. Although they didn’t help before, they offered help later. Why did you reject it?" Wang Xu asked.
"I..." Luo’er was at a loss for words.
The Chief is very upset about this matter, it’s a serious issue," he said, heaving a deep sigh before continuing, "I can’t help you with this. The Church Court already relayed this to the Chief, and now he came here personally to interrogate you."
Upon hearing his words, Luo’er felt a chill run down his spine. He pointed at the floor and asked, "Lin Wei? Here?"
In any case, you can’t escape today. Bear his scolding well and thoroughly reflect on your actions. I’ll speak on your behalf. The Chief was your father’s comrade, he probably won’t send you back to Earth," Wang Xu said gravely.
"We failed twice, with many from the advance team getting severely injured. Therefore, I don’t merely wish to capture Fu’en, I want his life," Luo’er answered truthfully after a moment of silence.
"I knew it!" Wang Xu gave a deep sigh. He’d watched Luo’er grow up and knew him best.
Don’t let his usually weak appearance fool you; this kid is incredibly stubborn. He’s had a falling out with his grandfather and didn’t bother reaching out to him for over a decade.
Listen, it’s fine for you to talk about this with me, but do not mention this to the Chief. Given how serious the situation has become, if you continue to add fuel to the fire, being repatriated will be the least of your worries. You might even get detained," he warned Luo’er, following a sigh.
I understand," Luo’er nodded.
"The Chief is in his office waiting for you. Control your words when you go. Admit your mistakes when you should, do not rile him up again. Understand?" Wang Xu commanded.
"I understand, " Luo’er answered meekly, head bowed low.
"Let’s go, I’ll escort you there. Decide what you plan to say in advance, and don’t shoulder all of the blame yourself. The Chief isn’t me; he doesn’t know you as well," Wang Xu continued to instruct.
He led Luo’er to the office door. After unloading all the equipment Luo’er had, he pushed open the door for him to enter, while he himself stood guard by the entrance.
Once the door was closed, Lin Wei sat there on the sofa sipping tea. Unlike Wang Xu, he didn’t enjoy interrogating people across a desk; instead, he preferred to share a cup of tea with them while they talk.
As this was a clandestine visit, Lin Wei was dressed in simple, casual clothes. However, this couldn’t conceal the imposing aura he emitted. Anyone who stood in front of him would inevitably feel tense, and Luo’er was no exception.
"Sit," Lin Wei said, glancing at Luo’er walking into the room but not looking up from his tea.
"No need, I’ll stand, " Luo’er responded in a hushed tone.
"Okay." Lin Wei placed his teacup on the table and looked up at Luo’er.
His gaze felt like it was cutting into Luo’er each time it swept his face. Even though he was a captain, he felt so small standing in front of Lin Wei.
Since your father’s passing, I believe this is the first time we have spoken, right?" Lin Wei asked casually.
Yes," Luo’er replied, unsure why Lin Wei brought up his father.
Hmm," Lin Wei nodded, pausing before proceeding to the main point. I tasked you with capturing Fu’en, but he managed to escape. I want to know why."
"I..." Luo’er hesitated, at a loss for words.
"We received word from the Church Court that they planned to assist us in capturing Fu’en and delivering him to the headquarters. However, you refused. I’d like to know why," Lin Wei probed further.
Because I wanted to capture him myself...," Luoer admitted in a soft voice, much like a whisper due to guilt.
"You wanted to capture him personally, yet you failed to do so. Why?" Lin Wei pressed on.
"Fu’en is cunning. Our attempts to capture him failed twice..." Luo’er explained in a low voice.
"And you failed on your third attempt, too..." Lin Wei stated, looking at him.
Luo’er fell silent, unable to respond.
"Tell me the truth, I know you’re hiding something from me!" Lin Wei demanded.
His voice was layered with a formidable authority that allowed no room for refusal. Despite his calm tone, Luo’er felt a shiver every time he heard him speak.
Because... because... I wanted to kill him!" Luo’er finally confessed after hesitating for a long time.
"And why is that?" Lin Wei asked, leaning forward on the couch upon hearing Luo’er’s confession.
"We attempted to capture Fu’en twice but failed both times. Our team suffered severe injuries during the second attempt. I couldn’t swallow my anger..." Luo’er’s voice trembled as he continued, feeling wronged.
"So, you wanted to capture him personally and send him to the West Heaven, correct?" Lin Wei probed.
"Yes..." Luo’er nodded.
"You, I thought you were a capable captain. Yet here you are acting impulsively," Lin Wei’s expression turned to anger. He arose and began pacing, trying to control his fury.
"Do you know how important Fu’en is to us? Yet you wanted to kill him. I’ve said before the worst-case scenario is to kill him and yet, you acted on your own volition, intending to kill him outright, blatantly disobeying my orders. Luo’er, you sure are gutsy. Do you think that just because your father and I were comrades, I would let you off easy?" Lin Wei bellowed at him reproachfully.
"That’s not what I meant, I only..." Luo’er faltered under the stern reprimand. His body went limp, and he nearly collapsed.
