Chapter 412 - 405: The Disappeared Fu’en
Chapter 412: Chapter 405: The Disappeared Fu’en
The magicians casting the shield noticed the visible magic cluster hovering above their heads, their eyes wide open in alarm. Guided by Tangmo, the magic around them was rapidly absorbed into the magic cluster. With less and less magic required to sustain their shield, it gradually became weaker.
However, it was not the weakening shields that worried the magicians. They knew the moment this concentrated magic cluster slammed into their bodies, the resulting magical shock would be powerful enough to cause their deaths due to overload. Even their magic-affinitive bodies could not prevent this.
Threatened by the magic cluster, a magician felt fear creeping in. He threw down his magic wand, scrambling and rolling to jump into the pillar of light, only to be forcibly ejected by Fu’en.
He sat on the ground, staring wide-eyed at the hand reaching out from the pillar of light. Having been pushed out of the shield’s range, a large hole unexpectedly burst from his temple. His body lay rigidly on the ground. A distant sniper was to credit. He was unable to neutralize the magicians maintaining the shield but dealing with the isolated ones was no problem at all.
Seeing their close comrade die miserably, the fears in the hearts of the other magicians paradoxically wavered less. They were aware that losing their shield would mean certain death. Hence, despite the enormous magic cluster hanging over them, they forcibly maintained their shields.
"Don’t let him escape!" Luo’er shouted when he saw the Fu’en’s hand entering the pillar of light.
"Everyone, retreat and find cover!" Tangmo shouted as she set the command for explosion on the magic cluster. After doing all that, she stopped her guidance and quickly hid behind a large rock.
Without a magician’s guidance, the magic cluster, now possessing mass, fell heavily. Like a sphere of water wrapped in cling film, it plummeted straight over the magicians’ heads.
However, unlike the sphere of water, the magic cluster had a detonation command placed on it. On contact with the magicians, the fragile outer shell of the magic cluster instantly ruptured. Internally compressed liquid magic instantly spilled and sublimated, spreading outwards in all directions.
The high-speed movement of magic particles caused friction in the air, generating intense heat at the center of the explosion which spread outwards. However, Tangmo’s magic level only reached the fourth level, so the explosion of the magic cluster was not that fierce.
Under the impact of the shockwave, the magicians were tossed like leaves in a storm, tossed high and then thrown around. But there was no need to worry about them. At the moment of the magic cluster’s rupture, they had already suffered severe erosion due to the massive magic impact, and died on the spot.
Magic is also a double-edged sword for the Otherworlders. It can be used to fight Earth people as well as their own kind. Neither a person from Earth nor the Otherworld can withstand a magic shock. Only those with high innate quality can ensure that their bodies will not be harmed by magic shocks.
The moment the explosion happened, Luo’er had already taken cover. Still, he felt the sweep of surging magic, physically drained and panting for breath.
At the moment of the explosion, Tangmo, taking advantage of her high magical affinity, peeked out and saw, to her surprise, that the explosion had little effect on that magic array. The pillar of light was still standing tall, entirely unaffected by the explosion.
After some thought, Tangmo understood what was happening. The magic array was powered by magic crystals, and so it was not affected by atmospheric magic fluctuations.
The design for a magic array powered by atmospheric magic is different from that powered by mineral magic. An array powered by atmospheric magic, since it has to continuously absorb atmospheric magic, has each line capable of absorbing magic and is easily affected by atmospheric magic fluctuations.
A magic array powered by mineral magic only needs magic crystals to power it. It requires only a few magic input points and inlaid open-source magic crystals. The array will directly draw magic from the crystals through the input points.
Such a magic array line cannot absorb magic, but it won’t be affected by atmospheric magic fluctuations either. Unless someone removes the magic crystal from the input point, it is nearly impossible for this magic array to stop working.
Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Some magic arrays that serve as traps usually use a hybrid mode. They leverage magic crystal power to ensure the traps’ power and atmospheric magic to ensure the traps won’t fail due to the loss of power from the magic crystals.
Apparently, the magic array they faced was powered by magic crystals. That’s why it was not affected by atmospheric magic fluctuations.
It seemed that Fu’en had made thorough preparations, predicting that someone would come after him. So, he used a relatively safe magic crystal powered array to ensure his safety.
After the explosion, Luo’er ignored his discomfort, took his gun and rushed out from behind cover. He wanted to kill Fu’en before the pillar disappeared, to avenge his two previous defeats.
"Dada, dada, dada, dada...."
As Luo’er was running, he fired into the pillar of light. It seemed he was a step late as there appeared to be nothing in the pillar. Bullets passed through it and hit the ground unimpeded, kicking up mounds of dirt.
With the disappearance of the pillar of light, the thing Luo’er dreaded most had still happened. Fu’en was already nowhere to be seen on the remaining magic array. Clearly, this magic array wasn’t some kind of defensive array, it was a teleportation array.
Teleportation arrays, or teleportation magic, were once very popular in the Otherworld continent. They are the derivative magic of summoning magic, which uses two different summoning arrays to transport people from one end to another, similar to the Otherworld Gate.
After a hundred years of darkness, the Church Court banned the use of summoning magic. As a derivative of summoning magic, teleportation magic was naturally added to the prohibition list, completely disappearing from the Northern Continent.
Fu’en is no ordinary person, possessing so many taboo skills of the Church Court. Even if the headquarters spared him, the Church Court certainly would not.
Seeing the empty magic array, Luo’er stood there, stunned. After a moment of silence, he let out a hysterical roar and angrily stamped his feet, his only way of relieving his anger.
Tangmo cautiously approached him. This was the first time she had seen Luo’er so upset. Including this time, the Advance Team had fallen into Fu’en’s hands three times. This humiliation left Luo’er, the captain, feeling disgraced, and his hatred for Fu’en had reached the extreme.
After venting, Luo’er stood still with big eyes, heavily gasping for breath. His body was already in poor health, and this bout of anger nearly made him cough up blood.
Not far away, a faintly conscious mage groaned. But before he even had time to react to what had happened, Luo’er pulled out his pistol without looking back and blew his brains out.
After venting his anger, Luo’er finally regained his composure. He took out a signal flare from his waist and shot it into the sky. A bright yellow flare soared into the sky with a piercing noise, a signal for assembly. Seeing the signal, the members of the Advance Team left their positions and converged on Luo’er’s location.
"Yue’er, record the form of the magic array. Moumou, prepare to report to the headquarters and tell them. The mission has failed, and Fu’en has disappeared into the magic array, his whereabouts unknown!" Once everyone had gathered, a calm Luo’er gave his orders.
"Yes!" The two girls nodded and then turned and busied themselves with their tasks.
Ignoring the gaze of others, Luo’er walked straight to a tree, sat down underneath it, and cradled his head in regret, sinking into a state of self-closure.
Cheng Ziang glanced at Luo’er but didn’t go over to comfort him. Because he knew that this failure was all Luo’er’s responsibility. If he hadn’t been talking about revenge, the Church Court would have captured them and taken them back to the academy long ago. They wouldn’t have even needed to leave Holy Heart City.
While they had always followed Luo’er’s lead, it has to be said that in this operation, Luo’er, as the captain, had significantly derelicted his duty.
Captain Ziang thought that the best outcome now would be if the Church Court didn’t create a fuss and Wang Xu protected Luo’er. Otherwise, if it got to Lin Wei, a good scolding would be the least of their problems. Worst case scenario, they could all be sent back to Earth for suspension and inspection, and the Murong Squad would take over the Advance Team’s mission.
He also regretted not rectifying Luo’er’s mistakes in time, letting him stray further and further from the right path. Everyone could see that Luo’er’s methods were becoming more and more radical, but no one stood up to criticize him. In a way, everyone was responsible for what had happened.
"Sister Moumou, come here..." Baiyue, holding a notebook, waved to Tangmo, who had just sent the message.
"What’s the matter?" Tangmo walked over to her and asked.
"Can you analyze this magic array? It looks very familiar." Baiyue handed her the notebook.
"Let me take a look..." Taking the notebook from her, Tangmo examined the magic array, and instinctively frowned.
"Pen!" she ordered.
"Here!" Baiyue handed her the pen.
Tangmo took the pen and began to write down the conversion formula on the notebook with the magic array. Soon, she found a clue and quickly flipped forward dozens of pages with a frown.
"There’s no mistake, no mistake, it must be like this." Tangmo looked at Baiyue, comparing the runes she’d just found with the newly documented magic array. Baiyue’s face paled at once.
"This is..." Unable to contain herself, Baiyue called out in surprise.
"What’s wrong?" Hearing her voice, Cheng Ziang turned around and asked with concern.
Tangmo looked at him solemnly, then answered word by word, "Fu’en...he’s been teleported to Earth!"
