Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 406 - 399: Recuperation

Chapter 406: Chapter 399: Recuperation

The group stayed in the academy like this for five days, using this time for their recuperation. As Hu Daoke had said, in the world of magic, wounds heal much faster than on Earth. This is because mages can use magic power to accelerate wound healing, something that is quite an advanced technique on Earth.

After lying still for only five days, Xuzhong Qi and Wu Tairan’s wounds had mostly healed completely. Once their stitches were removed, they tried getting up and moving around, and upon confirming that they were unharmed, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief.

During these five days, Ziang and Yalunte spent their time in the eastern city district, hoping to discover something significant. The Church Court had struck with such force that it wiped out the Hound Gang’s influence in the Eastern District in just one night, serving as a wake-up call to the other forces about who calls the shots in Holy Heart City.

Even the patrols became more subdued after the Temple Knights intervened. The two couldn’t dare to go out in their patrol uniforms anymore and had to wander the streets in civilian clothes every day, trying to find valuable information.

Once the injuries of Xuzhong Qi and Wu Tairan were healed, the team held a small party to celebrate their recovery. However, Luo’er’s expression remained gloomy during the party. As the captain, he was under a tremendous amount of pressure and had to deal with all kinds of chaotic matters.

Now, their weapons and ammunition were essentially depleted and would need to be replenished in time to maintain their capacity for potential combat. The issue of ammunition could be solved rather easily since Otherworld was not lacking in that aspect.

However, their bulletproof plates were more or less already scrapped. These items would have to be shipped from the headquarters, otherwise, they’d have to face bullets without protection. The usefulness of the bulletproof plates during their past two battles was undisputed. Hence, even when they were damaged, Luo’er dared not discard them lightly. Until new bulletproof plates arrived, they would have to make do with the current plates, riddled with holes.

"So, what now, boss?" asked Hu Daoke, sitting nearby.

"What else can we do? We need to restock everything and wait for information from the Church Court," sighed Luo’er, "I don’t want to stay idle like this either."

"Why don’t we head back? Let them capture the guys and send them back to our base," suggested Hu Daoke.

"No," Luo’er scanned the group, his gaze landing on Xuzhong Qi and Wu Tairan. He said seriously, "I’m not done with Azita."

"Um, Captain, actually we..." Xuzhong Qi and Wu Tairan exchanged a glance, hesitating to speak.

"Forget about it, there’s no need for you to reason with him," Hu Daoke waved his hands, giving Luo’er a glance and saying, "It’s not all about you guys. The primary reason is that Azita pissed off the boss."

He understood Luo’er’s character well. Luo’er held grudges and was protective. Despite his gentle demeanor, he was rather vicious when dealing with strangers, especially enemies, just like a mother hen protecting her chicks. He wouldn’t let go of the enemy until they’d been pecked completely and that’s exactly how he planned on dealing with Azita.

As the captain, Luo’er always looked up to the headquarters and especially Lin Wei. However, now he was overtly disobeying Lin Wei’s demands, ordering the killing of Fu’en. This already explained quite a lot.

"Luo’er, is there any progress on the Church Court’s end?" asked Murong.

"None. Those guys are formidable within Holy Heart City, but once they leave the city, they are useless. Five days have passed, and not even a hair of them could be found." Luo’er shook his head helplessly, considering the Church Court’s efficiency.

"What if we try to find them ourselves?" suggested Murong.

"Who knows where they have gone to? If they are going downstream, they’d have already reached the sea by now. Nobody would be able to find them then..." Luo’er let out a significant sigh, losing hope of finding any traces of these people.

"Actually, it’s not bad to be lazing around. After we complete a mission, we typically have one to two months of rest, like summer vacation," Hu Daoke said, trying to lighten the mood.

"The mission is not over yet, we can’t afford to relax," Luo’er cast him a glance then ordered, "Little Ke, go to the Eastern district and find Ziang and Mr. Sword Saint. Bring them back here and stop by Blaiqi’s place and buy some bullets. We need to be prepared at all times. Once the Church Court finds someone, we will depart immediately!"

"We want to go too!" Xuzhong Qi and Wu Tairan jumped up and said.

"Fine, the three of you, be careful!" Luo’er nodded in affirmation.

"Aren’t we waiting for the reinforcements from the headquarters?" Murong asked.

"No, we don’t have that much time to spare," Luo’er shook his head, "The sooner we complete the task, the sooner you can go back. It’s not safe to linger around here. As for the bulletproof vests, everyone will have to make do for now. Bullets are not always going to hit in the same spot. Should you take a couple more shots, you should be fine."

"Boss, why don’t you swap bulletproof plates with me? I’m a larger target, so less likely to get hit," Hu Daoke offered.

"What kind of reasoning is that? Keep it for yourself!" Luo’er shook his head in refusal.

Watching the three leave the room, Murong glanced at Luo’er, then laughed, saying, "You seem eager to see us go."

"Hah, no," Luo’er paused, waving his hand, "I mean no disrespect, but it’s not really safe to remain here..."

As he spoke, he involuntarily glanced at Shangguan Jiu who was looking at him grievously. This made him feel somewhat guilty and he decided to stop speaking.

Tangmo glanced at the two of them, quite conflicted. After everything they had been through, she and Shangguan Jiu had grown closer, so she wasn’t eager for Shangguan Jiu to return to Earth too soon. On the other hand, she was well aware that Shangguan Jiu also harbored feelings for Luo’er. If Shangguan Jiu stayed in the advance team, Tangmo would have another rival. Hence, she also wasn’t hoping for Shangguan Jiu to remain in the advance team.

Luo’er, that flirtatious scoundrel, couldn’t have had enough diversity in Holy Heart City in these few days, with lasses and maids all around him. He should never have been allowed to come into contact with women in the first place, thereby saving himself from countless troubles.

Tangmo may not have been aware, but Luo’er was just as popular with the ladies when he was in the academy. Female teachers and officers who watched him grow up from childhood, treated him as if he was their own. However, most of them were later transferred, and they cried a lot when they left, feeling as if they’d lost a lovely son.

Unlike Otherworld, acceptance of the Elf Race’s hybrids was surprisingly high on Earth. Even surrogate mothers became a business. However, without the support of gene technology, most people weren’t able to give birth to a normal Elf hybrid.

In more than twenty years since the academy was established, the success rate of Elf hybrids had been staggeringly low, so Shangguan Jiu’s status in the academy was actually quite high.

The genes of the Elf Race were peculiar; they rejected any other race’s genes, leading to frequent rejection phenomena. However, here’s the strange thing: as a subrace of elves, the genes of the Dwarf Race were much more compatible with those of humans.
