Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 404 - 397: Promise to Her

Chapter 404: Chapter 397: Promise to Her

"Er, I wouldn’t put it that way," Luo’er said, scratching his head. If Tangmo heard this, he was not sure how happy he would be.

"What, is she your fiancée?" Daier asked with wide-eyed curiosity.

"No, why do you always jump to that conclusion?" Luo’er asked awkwardly.

"Because I think, Miss Audrey might like you a lot." Daier answered, looking down.

"Liking someone is one thing, but our relationship isn’t like that..." Luo’er didn’t know how to explain.

"What do you mean by that?" Daier gazed at him unblinkingly.

"What I mean is, we are part of a team, she is our companion." Luo’er explained after a pause.

"I see..." Daier lowered her head, not fully understanding his explanation.

Looking at her, Luo’er was filled with deep feelings, not knowing where to begin. Daier was the first to help him when he was in hiding at the Magic Academy. He was grateful to her and feared he might have involved her in the trouble last time.

A year had passed, Daier was still at the academy, waking up before dawn doing endless chores. Luo’er knew the hardship of such a life. He could only endure it for less than a month. The fact that Daier managed to survive year after year was remarkable.

"You..."

Before he could say something, Daier interrupted him: "After you left the academy, how have you been? I’ve been worried about you."

"Oh, we’ve been doing pretty well." Luo’er scratched his head in response.

"I see..." Daier nodded her head.

The two fell silent again. Separation was a massive barrier between them. After the Advance Team left the Magic Academy, they launched a series of conquests across the country. Meanwhile, Daier remained at the academy, doing manual labor. They no longer had common grounds for conversation.

"So, Daier...You’re a Marsyan, right?" Breaking the silence, Luo’er began to ask.

"Yes, what’s up?" Daier looked up at him.

"Which part of Masya are you from?" Luo’er asked.

"The South..." Daier responded.

"The South is nice, it’s all plains and the breadbasket of the country." Luo’er nodded.

"Have you been to Masya?" Daier asked excitedly.

"Oh, a couple of times." Luo’er nodded again.

"How’s my hometown?" Daier looked at him, yearning for an answer.

"Well, it’s the same," Luo’er sighed, "There’s still war going on."

"Is it..." Daier lowered her head, her expression turning melancholic.

"Do you want to go back?" Luo’er asked, looking at her.

"Yes, I’ve been away for so long, and I kind of miss home, but..." Daier pursed her lips, ultimately remaining silent.

"Ah, these bloody wars..." Luo’er sighed.

Daier walked to the edge of the corridor, her face caught in the dim glow of the Magic Crystal Lamp. Luo’er noticed the tear tracks on her face. Suddenly, he felt a lump in his throat, an indescribable feeling.

He slowly moved next to Daier, looking at her worn-out maid uniform, patched several times. He felt a sense of heartache. Gently, he took her hand. The skin on the back of her hand had lost its smoothness, marked with numerous scars.

The sight stirred Luo’er’s sense of responsibility for the poor maid in front of him. The sweet-natured Daier shouldn’t have to endure this hardship. This was not out of love, but compassion.

"Daier, do you want to... come with me?" Luo’er hesitated, but finally asked.

"Come with you..." Daier looked at him, her huge eyes full of surprise. Luo’er noticed that her cheeks were slowly turning red.

"Ah, I didn’t mean it that way..." Seeing Daier turning beet-red, Luo’er hurriedly waved his hands, "I mean, do you want to work in my place."

"At your place?" Daier covered her face, unwilling to let Luo’er see her blushing cheeks.

"Yes, you’ll probably still be working as a maid, but it might be more relaxed." Luo’er said.

"Where is that?" Daier looked up at him.

"It’s Yazhi City. We have a base there. But you may need to prepare mentally because most people there are from the Otherworld. I’m afraid you might be scared." Luo’er continued.

"Otherworlders, like you?" Daier looked at him and asked after hesitating for a while.

"Almost... I guess..." Luo’er scratched his head. If she was talking about deviant hair, then they were indeed all the same.

"Can I think it over?" Daier asked after a brief silence.

"Of course, I’m not forcing you if you don’t feel like it." Luo’er waved his hand and replied.

"I don’t mind it, if they are all like you, then I can accept it..." Daier murmured with her head down.

"That’s good..." Though her voice was very quiet, Luo’er heard it anyway. He didn’t know what to say in this kind of situation, so he just quietly shut his mouth.

"Well, I, um, I’m going to get new meals for you both." Daier broke the silence awkwardly.

"Alright, you go. Don’t say that you dropped the things by yourself, just say it was us. Otherwise, the manager will fine you." Luo’er reminded her.

"I got it, thank you!" Daier nodded, and then turned away, leaving the corridor.

Watching her retreating figure, Luo’er stretched lazily. He felt especially weary today. Not just physically weary, but emotionally too. Tangmo, Baiyue, Shangguan Jiu, Feliz, and Daier, when he thought of all those girls revolving around him, he felt exasperated. Why did they all like him and not someone else?

After being busy from morning till now, Luo’er finally felt a surge of fatigue. He returned to his room, took a quick shower, then went straight to bed. As it turned out, the facilities of the Magic Academy were rather modern. Not only was running water available but one could even take hot showers. He was quite curious about how they managed this.

As soon as Luo’er climbed into bed, exhaustion washed over him. He closed his eyes, and in a few seconds, he was in the world of dreams. In his dream, they were still fervently battling in the eastern district, still letting Fu’en escape. This infuriated Luo’er.

Luo’er didn’t realize he was dreaming. In this dream, their casualties were severe and everyone except him was badly wounded. Everyone was injured, several had died on the spot. Unable to accept all these, Luo’er wept helplessly, clutching their bodies.

When he jolted awake, it was already the next morning. The safe surroundings made Luo’er drop his guard, resulting in him oversleeping.

"Boss, are you awake?" Hu Daoke knocked on the door from outside, asking cautiously.

"I’m awake!" Luo’er hastily got up from the bed, then walked barefoot to the door and opened it.

Hu Daoke was standing outside. Seeing Luo’er open the door, he retreated a step, making room and said, "This maid lady insisted on bringing you breakfast herself."

"A maid lady?" Luo’er rubbed his eyes, then glued onto the sight of Daier standing next to Hu Daoke, holding a tray with an exquisite breakfast on it.

As soon as Daier saw Luo’er, her face turned red and she lowered her head, prompting Luo’er to inadvertently check his dress.

"Boss, Dean Shariya wants to see you after breakfast." Hu Daoke reminded from the side.

"I got it." Luo’er nodded in response.

Hu Daoke glanced at him then stole a glance at Daier. He wasn’t included in the covert operation last time, so he was not aware of Daier’s identity. He merely heard some rumors from Cheng Ziang. Hence, he was suspicious of Daier’s identity and also concerned about Tangmo’s status.

"What are you standing there for, all spaced out?" Luo’er noticed the strange look on his face and couldn’t resist asking.

"Boss, you can’t be indecisive!" Hu Daoke whispered, reminding.

"What nonsense are you speaking? Don’t let Moumou hear you!" Luo’er rolled his eyes at him, feeling goosebumps all over him.

"Tangmo went next door to see a patient early in the morning, Boss, you better watch out!" Hu Daoke shook his head, expressing his concern for Luo’er.

"Alright, alright. I’ll just talk in the living room then..." Luo’er helplessly shook his head and walked out to the living room.

Hu Daoke was no longer blindly obeying Tangmo. In his heart, Luo’er’s status was gradually surpassing Tangmo’s. To him, Tangmo was still his flesh and blood sister, but for him, Luo’er was just like, if not closer than, a real brother.

Luo’er walked into the living room. Daier hurried over to place the breakfast on the table, then stood holding the tray nervously, her eyes revealing that she had something she wanted to say.

Noticing Daier’s odd behavior, Luo’er casually asked after taking a bite of bread, "Little Ke, have you had your breakfast?"

"Oh, yes, I have!" Hu Daoke nodded and replied.

"Did you get hurt in yesterday’s gunfight?" Luo’er continued.

"I’m fine, as fit as ever!" Hu Daoke responded, thumping his chest.

"Go, let your sister take a look at you." Luo’er said, lowering his gaze.

"I’m fine!" Hu Daoke was momentarily unable to comprehend Luo’er’s words.

"Go, let her give you a thorough checkup!" Luo’er insisted.

"Oh!" After a glance at Luo’er and another at Daier, Hu Daoke seemed to understand something. Then, nodding his head, he left the living room.

"So, what did you want to say?" Seeing that Hu Daoke had left, Luo’er lifted his head and asked.

"I thought about it last night, and I’ve decided to go with you, to Yazhi City. Even if... even if it means being a maid, but... but..." Daier glanced at him as she spoke, unable to voice her last words, but the implication was clear.
