Chapter 403 - 396: Met Daier Again
Chapter 403: Chapter 396: Met Daier Again
For Baiyue, her ears have always been her most sensitive and core area. Although she has been able to reveal her ears to those within the group, only Luo’er is allowed to touch them.
"Go take a rest!" Luo’er said gently.
Just like cats and dogs enjoy their masters rubbing their heads, Baiyue also enjoyed Luo’er petting hers. Upon hearing his soft tone, she squinted her eyes, seemingly savoring such tender treatment.
Suddenly remembering she was still in the room surrounded by many people, she hurriedly pulled Luo’er’s hand away, covered her head and ran away, her face burning red.
Luo’er sniffed his hand and murmured, shaking his head, "I need to wash her hair for her again..."
"Are you two ok now?" Luo’er turned around and asked the couple.
"We’re fine, just minor injuries!" Xuzhong Qi gestured with his hand, managing a weak smile.
"As long as you’re fine!" Luo’er nodded.
"Well, captain, the daily treatment quota is enough. Touche too long and Sister Moumou and the others can’t stand it, neither can we..." Wu Tairan raised his hand, looking distressed.
"I understand," Luo’er nodded, then turned to Tangmo and said, "Don’t work yourself to death, that’s not worth it."
Tangmo hung her head, silent, making it difficult for Luo’er to perceive her mood.
"Still angry at me?" Luo’er contemplated, before asking.
"I’m not mad at you, I’m mad at myself..." Tangmo, head lowered, muttered.
"That’s enough, everyone has already forgiven you. Stop blaming yourself. I was indeed a bit harsh today, my apologies." Luo’er spoke softly.
Tangmo still hung her head low, unsure of what to say.
"Go rest, you’ve had a tiring day too." Luo’er said.
"Mmm!" Tangmo nodded, turning around and leaving the room.
After resolving everything, Luo’er exited the room, murmuring while rubbing his head, "So tiring today. Tiring physically and mentally."
"All solved?" Murong stood in the corridor, approaching Luo’er as soon as he stepped out to ask.
"Yep, I gave Shariya a scolding, warning them if they don’t help, our relationships end." Luo’er hit his shoulder and replied.
"Can they agree?" Murong asked with some skepticism.
"Don’t worry, the Church Court is facing far more critical issues than the headquarters. Though it was the headquarters who initiated the contact, it is clear that the Church Court greatly needs this cooperation." Luo’er explained.
"I just heard, the gunfire from there hasn’t ceased." Murong looked towards the east of the city.
"Must be the city guards. The Hound Gang has really gone mad, causing such trouble for one Fu’en, I really don’t understand them, Azita is usually not such an impulsive person." Luo’er, shaking his head, said.
"Maybe, there is something that excited them." Murong hypothesized.
"Excited?" Luo’er contemplated, then said, "I don’t think there is anything exciting, unless they are provoked by me threatening to expose their alliance with the Ancient States to Dulens if they refuse to hand over Fu’en."
"Yes, maybe it’s because of the Ancient States!" Murong furrowed his brows.
"The Ancient States? Is there something more important than Fu’en?" Luo’er pondered at his words.
"What is the connection between the Hound Gang and the Ancient States?" Murong asked.
"The Hound Gang smuggles Magic Crystals to the Ancient States. If we disregard their identities, it’s just mere smuggling..." Luo’er said, hesitatingly.
"Why would the Ancient States want to smuggle these Magic Crystals from the Hound Gang? Don’t they have any other closer suppliers?" Murong asked, with a puzzled look.
His question was justified. The Holy Heart City is located to the north of the continent while the Ancient States are in the south. The distance between these two places is approximately the distance from the arctic circle to the equator. Did the Ancient States resort to smuggling from such a distance because Magic Crystals can only be produced in the north?
"This is indeed quite strange, but currently, the headquarters has no plans to move south. So whatever happens in the Ancient States is none of our business, let Hound Gang and the Church deal with it." Luo’er pondered and said.
"Yeah, let’s leave them be!" Murong nodded.
"You’ve had a long day, go rest." Luo’er said, looking at him.
"You too," Murong grinned before adding, "I have always had some reservations about yielding to you, but now, I am convinced of your leadership."
"You guys..." Luo’er stared at him, seemingly lost for words.
"Enough chatting, go get some sleep!" With a wave of his hand, Murong turned and left.
Watching his departing figure, Luo’er sighed deeply, feeling the burden on his shoulders becoming heavier. Regardless, he had decided not to personally search for Fu’en anymore. They would set off whenever the church found the person. If the mission failed, the blame would be cast upon the Church Court.
Even though it may sound irresponsible, if it weren’t for the initial inaction of the Church Court, the Advance Team would not have suffered such heavy losses. They had been disadvantaged twice, which utterly disgraced Luo’er. He could hardly resist the urge to chop Fu’en into pieces.
Luo’er gave his shoulder a light thud, sighing softly. Everything that needed to happen had already occurred, and everything that needed to be done had been done. All that was left was to wait until tomorrow for the final decision.
He turned around and saw a maid walking towards him not far away. She was holding a tray with food and water. For some reason, possibly due to the magic crystal lamp in the hallway, Luo’er always felt he couldn’t quite see her features clearly.
"Sir, this is your dinner," The maid said respectfully as soon as she saw Luo’er. As soon as she spoke, Luo’er froze in place. The voice was so familiar, even though he couldn’t recall it on the spot, Luo’er knew that he indeed recognized the owner of the voice.
"You..." He took a step forward, trying to make out the face of the maid in front of him, and as their gazes met, they both simultaneously let out a gasp.
"Luo’er!"
"Daier!"
The maid took a step back in fright, falling flat on her buttocks, the tray of dinner scattering across the floor. Seeing Luo’er, her first reaction was not excitement, but fear.
"Are you alright?" Luo’er bent over and extended a hand, asking with concern.
He recognized the girl in front of him. A year ago, when they were undercover at the academy, Daier was the first person Luo’er met. However, after the kidnapping case at the academy, Luo’er completely disappeared without a trace, never having a chance to see her again.
"Don’t... don’t come any closer..." Daier said in a panic, waving her hands about. Even her voice began to tremble with fear.
"What’s wrong, don’t you recognize me?" Luo’er asked, his face full of confusion.
"I... I... I’m sorry, I didn’t tell anyone about you, please don’t kill me!" Daier curled up into a corner and pleaded while covering her head.
"What are you thinking, why would I kill you?" Luo’er said helplessly.
It seemed that what happened that day really frightened her. Luo’er, who was originally gentle and weak, suddenly became a cold-blooded killer that day. It was too much for anyone to handle.
"You... You’re really not going to kill me?" Daier raised her head, looking at him with a face full of terror.
"Daier, I never intended to harm you," Luo’er said innocently.
"Then... Then..." Daier looked up at him, her expression indicating that she was holding back words.
"Get up, you’ve taken quite a fall," Luo’er said, extending his hand.
After some hesitation, Daier reached out to take Luo’er’s hand, allowing him to help her up. Luo’er gave her a quick once-over, then asked with concern, "Are you hurt?"
"I’m fine," Daier shook her head. She looked down at the food scattered all over the floor and immediately apologized, "I... I’m sorry, I accidentally dropped your dinner... I’ll go and get you a new serving right away, please don’t report me to the supervisor."
"It’s fine, it’s fine. Later, you just tell them we knocked it over," Luo’er nodded. He knew it wasn’t easy for Daier as a maid.
"Um, thank you!" Daier said gratefully, her head bowed.
The two stood there, the atmosphere suddenly falling into silence. Daier had a lot of questions to ask Luo’er, but she didn’t know how to phrase them when it came to the point.
"You..." After a moment of silence, Luo’er took the initiative to ask, "You weren’t bothered by anyone after we left, were you?"
"No!" Daier shook her head, her response short and to the point.
"That’s good!" Upon hearing her words, Luo’er let out a sigh of relief.
"Um, you... staying here, will you be alright?" Daier asked concernedly after a moment’s hesitation.
"Of course, it’s fine," Luo’er said matter-of-factly. "We’re guests of the Church Court."
"Guest," Daier looked at him, then took a step back. "My apologies sir, I meant no disrespect."
"Don’t be like that, we’re still friends, aren’t we?" Luo’er waved his hands.
"But you are..." Daier looked at his dark green eyes and asked somewhat bewildered.
"Oh, you mean this," Luo’er nodded, then explained, "I suppose I didn’t tell you, I’m from the Otherworld!"
"Otherworld..." Daier covered her mouth, almost exclaiming in surprise. She stared at Luo’er with wide eyes, asking in disbelief, "Are there elves in the Otherworld?"
"The Otherworld has all sorts of things!" Luo’er scratched his head, not bothering to explain what biological engineering was.
"That’s how it is." Daier nodded her head, finally seeming to understand.
"Did you come here with your master?" After a pause, Daier continued with her questioning.
"Master?" Luo’er was temporarily startled.
"Miss Audrey!" Daier said.
"Oh," Luo’er scratched his head, then smiled wryly, "She’s not my master, she’s my companion."
"Companion? Is she your wife?" Apparently, Daier didn’t quite understand the concept of a companion.
