Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 396 - 389: Making a Difficult Exit
Chapter 396: Chapter 389: Making a Difficult Exit
On the way back, everyone looked unusually silent. Luo’er wore a stern expression, his face and body covered in blood. It was a sight that was both shocking and pitiful. As the most authoritative and gentle person in the team, after Luo’er got angry, the rest of the Advance Team dared not speak, silently doing what they were supposed to do. Influenced by them, the members of the Murong Squad also didn’t dare to utter a word.
Luo’er gritted his teeth, strenuously pulling out a deformed bullet from the bulletproof plate on his body. The bullet had hit his right chest, and although it was blocked by the bulletproof plate, the resulting shockwave had left a bruise on his skin.
The bulletproof plates developed on Earth by now were actually as strong as Rune Armor. Blocking a full-strength bullet at close range was entirely feasible, but the resulting shockwave was a different matter. At least judging from the post-battle situation, Luo’er was still unharmed after resisting three direct shots of 7.62X51 full-power bullets, which spoke volumes about the protective capability of the bulletproof plate.
However, bulletproof plates only protected the torso, not the limbs, so there was no way to defend against getting shot in the limb areas. Also, since special operations missions were being carried out, the bulletproof plates carried by the Advance Team were essentially reconnaissance types with smaller protective areas. That’s why Xuzhong Qi was hit consecutively in the abdomen and shoulder by a series of shots.
Looking at the deformed bullet in his hand, Luo’er held it tightly, his teeth grinding together. At that moment, he was filled with hatred for the Hound Gang.
Luo’er wasn’t the type to be so kind as to be saintly. Having grown up on Earth, he found it hard to feel much sympathy for people from the Otherworld. At that moment, he simply wanted to kill all the members of the Hound Gang to avenge his teammates, even if these teammates were not in mortal danger.
"Hey, Old Wu, you’re awake!" The semi-conscious Wu Tairan suddenly groaned, gradually waking up from his state. Hu Daoke called out excitedly from the side.
"Where am I?" Wu Tairan weakly asked.
"In the car, we’ll be safe soon!" Murong leaned over to comfort him.
"Where’s Fu’en?" He asked.
"He got away..." Murong hesitated for a moment, then lowered his head and said.
"Ah," Wu Tairan cried out in pain, then, with a guilty expression, said, "It’s all my fault. I didn’t watch him."
"No one needs to take responsibility for this. I will make those people pay!" Luo’er said calmly from the side, his tone filled with a bone-chilling chill.
"Uh..." Seeing Luo’er’s unkind expression, Wu Tairan pursed his lips and ultimately chose to close his mouth.
"Wow, Old Wu, are you okay?" Hu Daoke leaned over and asked with concern.
"My leg feels numb, I wasn’t amputated, was I?" Wu Tairan asked.
"Oh no, you just got shot." Hu Daoke reassured.
"Ah, then I..." Hearing this news, Wu Tairan cried out in disbelief.
"No worries!" Hu Daoke waved his hand.
"How could..." Wu Tairan’s face turned pale.
"Little Ke!" Tangmo, who had seemingly had enough, gave him a kick and frowned in displeasure.
"Alright, alright, it’s okay. It’s just a through-and-through wound on your leg. You’ll be as good as new after a period of rest!" Hu Daoke stuck out his tongue and quickly offered reassurance.
"Don’t scare me..." Wu Tairan was on the verge of tears.
It must be said, although Hu Daoke’s joke was inappropriate, it cleverly lightened the team’s atmosphere, dragging them out of Luo’er’s angry mood.
"How are your wounds?" Hu Daoke leaned over and asked.
"Took two bullets, seems like they were blocked by the bulletproof plate." Wu Tairan answered with a frown.
"Let me see," Hu Daoke said as he gave him a quick checkup, finally heaving a sigh of relief, "No worries, they were both blocked. Should just be a bruise."
"How wicked is that bullet? Feels like I’ve been hammered twice." Wu Tairan took a deep breath and asked.
"Let’s see..." Hu Daoke said, starting to pry the already deformed bullet embedded in the bulletproof plate.
"Boy, how wicked must this bullet be? The bullet head’s been squeezed into a coin. You just had to wiggle around on the ground and got shot twice for nothing." Hu Daoke shook his head, putting the bullet head on his chest.
"I want to kill that bastard Fu’en!" Wu Tairan said, taking a deep breath.
"It’s okay, it’s okay. Once we go back to the academy, you can recuperate. Here in the Otherworld, we have healing magic. Your injuries will be healed in a week at most." Hu Daoke patted his shoulder comfortingly.
Wu Tairan sighed and then looked over at the pale-faced Xuzhong Qi not far away. "Old Xu, are you okay?" he asked with concern.
"I’ll endure it, but I just can’t cough..." Xuzhong Qi waved his hand, his injuries making him grimace.
"Little Ke, go and talk to him more. Don’t let him fall asleep," Tangmo told Hu Daoke.
She always felt guilty about Xuzhong Qi’s injuries. After being scolded by Luo’er, her guilt deepened. If anything happened to Xuzhong Qi, Tangmo felt she carried an inescapable responsibility.
Seeing the harmonious relationships among the team members, Murong turned his head and glanced at Luo’er, who was sitting there deep in thought. He put away his sniper rifle, moved closer to Luo’er and thanked him with gratitude, "Thank you for today. I initially misjudged you, thinking you’d treat us differently. Now, I feel ashamed. I’m sorry, Luo’er."
"You don’t have to thank me, this is my responsibility," Luo’er said, clenching his teeth in anger, his eyes becoming fierce, "I saw clearly who hurt them. I’m going to make them pay."
"Don’t feel too guilty, this was entirely unexpected. We never could have foreseen such a situation," Murong comforted him.
"No, this is my fault," Luo’er shook his head, "I should have expected a hard battle, but when organizing the assault team, I naively thought four people would be enough. If I had added one more member, maybe things wouldn’t have ended up like this."
Hearing Luo’er’s self-accusation, Murong fell silent for a while, then turned to look at Zhuanzhu, asking, "Zhuanzhu, you were undercover outside. Why didn’t you detect those people?"
"Well..." Zhuanzhu hesitated, glanced at Luo’er before answering, "They arrived in a carriage and got off with guns at the ready just as the assault team came out. There was no time to react..."
"How could it be so coincidental?" Murong frowned, inadvertently glancing Luo’er’s way.
"Azita sure is crafty, wanting to pit us against each other. Once I’m back at the academy, I’ll show him what revenge is!" Luo’er grunted through clenched teeth.
It was now totally clear that those ambushers were neither members of the Hound Gang, nor affiliated with them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have shown up fully armed at such a coincidental time and place.
Murong sighed lightly then asked, "So, how are we going to deal with Fu’en? How do we capture him?"
"No, we no longer need to capture him!" Luo’er shook his head.
"Are we abandoning the mission?" Murong asked somewhat surprised.
"No, I want his life!" Luo’er pounded on the carriage, instantly freezing the previously relaxed atmosphere.
"But, at headquarters..." Murong wanted to remind him that this mission was personally ordered by Lin Wei.
"I’ll explain everything to headquarters myself. First, let’s handle things on our end. If the Church Court dawdles and refuses to help, we’ll lay the blame for Fu’en’s death on them," Luo’er stated.
"But, aren’t they only responsible for providing information?" Murong asked hesitantly.
"That was before our first mission failed. After the failure of our first mission, the Church Court promised to help us capture Fu’en, but they didn’t do a thing and even refused to provide information forcing us into danger," Luo’er gritted his teeth, "The failure of this mission may partly be our fault, but the Church Court also has to share the blame. If they had been proactive, we wouldn’t have needed to capture Fu’en ourselves."
"Maybe they had difficulties they couldn’t talk about?" Murong asked.
"I don’t care about their difficulties. They promised to help us and they should’ve done so. If they couldn’t, they shouldn’t have made promises to headquarters in the first place. Why is it that headquarters had to beg the Church Court for help, only for us to end up overworked in the end?" Luo’er was more and more furious.
His accusations might seem like deflection, but upon reflection, they were not without reason. If the Church Court had fulfilled their responsibilities, even helping them catch Fu’en, the loss for the Advance Team would not have been so severe.
Although the Church Court had provided shelter and necessities, Luo’er viewed these as bestowed favors, not as the attitude of a cooperative partner. If the Church Court had directly captured Fu’en for them, there would’ve been no need to stay in Holy Heart City for so long.
To the Advance Team, Fu’en was just a tricky rabbit, constantly dodging their pursuit. But no matter how cunning, he was only at a draw with the Advance Team. If the Church Court would have helped, Fu’en would’ve been nothing in their eyes.
No matter how many burrows a shrewd rabbit has, they can all be dug up by an excavator, not to mention the rabbit itself.
So now Luo’er was not only upset with his own miscalculations, but also with the Church Court’s lack of action. His plan might’ve been flawed, but if the Church Court had intervened timeously, he wouldn’t have needed to make a plan to capture Fu’en. After venting his own anger, Luo’er began directing his resentment toward the Church Court.
