Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 394 - 387: Desperate Breakthrough

Chapter 394: Chapter 387: Desperate Breakthrough

Of course, such theories only applied to the military combat system on Earth. In the Otherworld, what he needed to provide was effective and unexpected suppressing firepower, in coordination with the assault team to strike the enemy.

As soon as Luo’er and his team stepped out of the alley, they were attacked from two directions. Both Yalunte and Zhuanzhu, who were at the forefront, had already taken cover, as a battlefield riddled with gunfire was not suited for their style of cold weapon combat. Fortunately, the previously positioned sniper team, especially Murong, who was a top shooter, provided precise firepower support which significantly relieved the pressure on the team.

Luo’er helped Zhongqi to the wall and laid him down, then stepped sideways out of cover and fired a few rounds. It was clear that the enemies were using submachine guns; their firepower was enormously fierce, and the weapons in their hands could hardly suppress them.

Luo’er was soon forced back by the hail of bullets. He took cover in a corner, as bullets continuously hit the stone wall, producing the sound of ricochets.

Their firepower was currently severely lacking. Zhongqi was injured, and Wu Tairan had to watch over Fu’en. Luo’er initially thought that a four-man assault team would be enough to complete the mission, but he never expected things to turn out like this.

If he’d known, he should have included Hu Daoke in the assault team from the beginning. With Hu Daoke’s combat experience and his light machine gun, they wouldn’t have been as passive as they currently were, even if they couldn’t counter the enemy.

"Luo’er, I can cast a defense shield and we can all rush out together!" Tangmo suggested, clutching his magic wand.

"No, we’re surrounded on both sides. We’d definitely get shot if we went out," Luo’er refused, hugging his rifle.

"Captain, you guys don’t need to worry about me, you guys go ahead, I’ll stay behind and cover our retreat," Zhongqi said weakly, holding his short assault rifle.

"Shut up, are you commanding or am I?" Luo’er was furious at his words. Since entering the Otherworld, the advance team had never left a comrade behind, yet Zhongqi always wanted to play the hero.

"Sorry..." After Luo’er’s rebuke, Zhongqi obediently closed his mouth.

"Captain, how about we take this guy hostage and force them to cease fire?" Wu Tairan suggested, pointing at Fu’en.

"No. With their intense firepower, they probably want to kill him too. We can’t take that risk," Luo’er declined.

"So, what do we do now? We’re trapped here and can’t make a move," Wu Tairan asked anxiously.

"Don’t worry. Although we seem to be at a disadvantage, our other deployed team members haven’t fully exploited their strength," Luo’er said patiently.

Hu Daoke ran down from the top of the tower as fast as he could, clutching a light machine gun. Ignoring the surprised looks of the scattered passerby, he began to flank the enemies along the street. Soon, he reached the rear of one enemy group.

The group was busy engaging the allies located across from the alley with heavy fire. They were using drum-fed Thompson submachine guns, which were incredibly powerful. Hu Daoke was witnessing such organized weaponry for the first time and it was evident these people weren’t ordinary.

Once behind them, Hu Daoke didn’t bother catching his breath. He immediately raised his machine gun and started firing at the enemy.

"Dada dada.....dada dada...dada dada!!!"

He used the method of burst-fire because he needed to adjust the gun’s muzzle continuously to ensure hits on the enemy. If he had fully pulled the trigger instead, he would have easily missed his target.

The enemies were stunned by this sudden intense attack, and four or five men were quickly taken down. Those who responded sought cover instinctively and didn’t have the chance to return fire at Hu Daoke.

After going through half a drum, Hu Daoke immediately took cover. Then, he pulled a magic crystal grenade from his pocket, pulled the pin, and threw it straight into the area where the enemies were concentrated. He had a strong arm, so the grenade landed directly in the enemy’s crowded area.

"Boom!!!!"

A burst of dark red flame exploded instantly. This was a flame transformed from magic, which was much hotter than a regular flame. It was enough to ignite a still growing tree with a mere flash. An ordinary person brushed by this flame would faint from the burn, and their skin would even catch fire.

After the explosion, several burning individuals were screaming and desperately rolling on the ground. Seizing this opportunity, Hu Daoke advanced with long strides wielding the light machine gun, then raised it and sprayed another hail of bullets.

Close-range firepower didn’t require any tactical shooting. All he needed to do was pull the trigger all the way, and the discharged bullets would immediately turn anything in front of him into a sieve.

In this type of resistance shooting, Hu Daoke instantly killed over ten enemies, leaving those who remained too stunned to react. They no longer wished to understand what had happened as they began running haphazardly after losing more than ten of their kind. In cooperation with the sniper team on the high tower, Hu Daoke quickly cleaned up the area, relieving the pressure on the assault team.

Hu Daoke randomly selected a cover and set up his machine gun. After reloading the drum magazine, he began crazily shooting at the enemy across the street. The road was in a T-shape with enemies occupying both ends, and Luo’er and his team being stuck in the middle.

After reloading the magazine, Hu Daoke began suppressing the enemy with his fire. Using single-shot burst fire and the ACOG optical sight on the Picatinny rail, he easily suppressed the enemy’s firepower. Any enemy who tried to shoot back would endure three to four retaliatory bullets, which caused most to be suppressed by Hu Daoke’s machine gun.

Although submachine guns have deadly firepower, they are less effective beyond the range of a hundred meters. Especially when confronted with light machine guns, the submachine guns, which use pistol bullets, are thoroughly suppressed by the light machine guns using mid-power bullets.

"Boss, I’ve got them pinned. Get out of there!" Hu Daoke shouted towards the alley entrance. However, his gunfire was louder than his voice, so his call was not particularly effective.

But Luo’er was no fool; he could distinguish friendly gunfire. So, when he heard one side of the street outside being suppressed by friendly gunfire, he knew he could withdraw.

"Moumou, engage a defense shield towards three o’clock. Wu Tairan, move this guy in the direction of nine o’clock, quickly!" Luo’er said, as he helped Xuzhong Qi up from leaning against the wall, then sprinted out of the alley.

Moumou murmured spells and immediately activated a level three physical defense shield. She held up the shield to peek out, then knelt halfway onto the ground with the shield in front of her, blocking any stray bullets from hitting her.

"Move, move!" Luo’er hollered, assisting Xuzhong Qi down the left alley and towards Hu Daoke’s direction.

Wu Tairan led the way, carrying a shortened assault rifle in one hand while manhandle Fu’en by the neck with the other, driving him to go on.

Hu Daoke was ceaselessly firing short single shots, with the route of the assault team’s retreat not within the firing range of his machine gun, so he needn’t worry about accidental friendly fire.

Luo’er’s plan had some flaws. Out of the four people in the assault team, Moumou was the principal magic cover but lacked the ability for firepower. Of the remaining people, Wu Tairan had to push Fu’en forward. There should have been two people providing firepower, but with Xuzhong Qi wounded, Luo’er had to assist him. As such, the assault team largely lost the ability to counter-attack while moving.

Fortunately, Hu Daoke was smart enough not to stay on the high tower, merely providing a vantage point for the sniper team, and instead came down to provide the assault team with supporting fire. This greatly relieved the assault team’s predicament.

"Move, move! I’ve got your backs!" As the other team members passed by him, he continued firing and shouted simultaneously.

Suddenly, his gunfire ceased. Utilizing the time while Moumou held the shield, he quickly replaced the drum magazine and yelled at Moumou in the distance, "Sister Moumou, retreat, I’ve got you covered!"

Having said that, he resumed his single burst fire, suppressing the enemy’s firepower. Hearing his voice, Moumou didn’t try to hold on. Instead, she canceled the shield, turned around, and ran. Before escaping, she muttered a spell and drew a line on the ground. Instantly, a tall firewall rose abruptly, obstructing the view of the enemy.

"Move, move!" Once Moumou had passed by Hu Daoke, he took out a smoke grenade from his pocket, pulled the pin, and threw it.

The smoke grenade sprayed a large amount of smoke, quickly covering the street. Hu Daoke seized this opportunity and fired sporadically at the other end of the street before picking up his light machine gun and running.

Once the assault team successfully withdrew from the street, the sniper team also completed their mission. Murong and Baiyue put away their equipment and descended from the high tower to rejoin the assault team.

Faced with the smoke, the enemies across the street appeared helpless. After a brief panic, they began to break through the smoke and charge at the advance team. However, before they could discern the scene before them after emerging from the smoke, they were met with a sudden fusillade of bullets.

Yalunte and Zhuanzhu, hiding on either side of the street, picked up the discarded Thompson submachine guns and wildly fired at the enemies from their waists. Caught off guard, these people were disoriented by the unexpected onslaught and ran back into the smoke after a few of them were killed.

"Eat my righteous machine gun!" Yalunte shouted as he fired.

Zhuanzhu saw and couldn’t resist asking: "You’re a swordsman, is it suitable for you to use a gun?"

Hearing his question, Yalunte turned to him, raised an eyebrow and replied, "Aren’t you an assassin too, yet you’re using a gun, aren’t you?"

At a loss for words, Zhuanzhu remained silent. Yalunte had read some Earth books, so he knew what Zhuanzhu’s name implied.

As they traversed the long street, the intense crossfire had frightened away any nearby pedestrians, leaving the street abandoned and littered with various discarded objects, looking incredibly disordered.
