Chapter 363: Chapter 356: Three Visits to Holy Heart City
"We’ll see when the time comes!" Luo’er gently interrupted her.
"Okay!" Tangmo nodded, for she could no longer speak.
Who would willingly let go if they are not truly in love?
In the early morning, when the dew had not yet evaporated, the group had already packed up and prepared to set off. They were still a long way from Holy Heart City and needed to make haste.
Luo’er had always held some concerns for Holy Heart City because two people he knew, Kali and Feliz, were there. But now, Kali was on Earth and Feliz remained at the base to take care of Shariya. If all goes well, she should be taken back to Earth after some time.
Therefore, Luo’er no longer had any worries about Holy Heart City at this time. It was still a place he was familiar with, but it was no longer a place he longed for.
Along the way, Tangmo received news from the headquarters almost every day about Fu’en and his group, which raised doubts about the headquarters’ intelligence. These fellows usually relied on commercial intelligence networks to gather information, and they were always slightly behind. When did they become so efficient?
"By the way, who sent us these messages from headquarters? It can’t be someone from Earth, right?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help but voice his doubts, looking at the burning message in Luo’er’s hand.
"I asked Wang Xu, he said it seemed to be a southerner." Luo’er said after some thought.
"A southerner?"
"Yes, called something like...Nightingale." Luo’er said uncertainly.
"Nightingale, a woman?" Hu Daoke perked up instantly, "Oh, we need to pay her a visit if we get the chance. Look at how much opportunity our correspondence has brought for the headquarters. Don’t we owe her some gratitude?"
"Quit it, you don’t have any aspirations!" Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes and said.
"You shut up! You’re no better," Hu Daoke spat back at him, then said excitedly, "What’s the South produce? Half-elves. Look at the half-elves we’ve met, aren’t they all soft, beautiful, and lovely?"
When he spoke of the south, he specifically referred to the Ancient States. As the beacon of Otherworld civilization, the Ancient States has always respected the status of all mixed-race people. Everyone’s status is equal. And because it’s near the Wood Elf Kingdom of Ilanadale and the Night Elves’ Xia Yue Island, there are many half-elves who can’t enter elven territories.
Looking at the proportion, there are more wood elves. Although the Night Elves also ostracize half-elves, they don’t limit those half-elves from returning to Xia Yue Island. However, the Wood Elves are different. They do not allow any half-elf to return to Ilanadale. This is why Luo’er’s mother abandoned him.
Unable to return to Ilanadale, Nina could only wander around with Luo’er, leading a nomadic life. She couldn’t accept this, so she asked Luo Chuan to take Luo’er away, while she returned to Ilanadale.
"I’ve heard that half-elves are discriminated against in Otherworld. Is that true?" Shangguan Jiu asked, worried.
"Don’t worry, it’s the wood elves who are discriminated against, the night elves are much better off." Luo’er shrugged and reassured.
"Speaking of which, Xuzhong Qi, you’re mixed with the Zhuyan people, right?" Hu Daoke suddenly thought of something and couldn’t help asking.
"Huh? Oh, yes!" The straightforward and honest Xuzhong Qi realized Hu Daoke was referring to him and quickly nodded.
"I heard you are the demolition expert?" Hu Daoke went on.
"Why so mysterious?" Murong asked, looking at Hu Daoke.
"Nothing really," Hu Daoke was hesitant and then said, "Last time, when we were travelling to the High-peak Kingdom on an airboat, we were ambushed by the Zhuyan people. Those guys were ruthless, using magic crystals as grenades. The Zhuyan people indeed have demolition genius in their blood."
As he spoke, he took out a modern magic crystal grenade from his pocket and said, "Here it is, those guys from the research center modified it based on the magic crystal grenades of the Zhuyan people."
"Are you an idiot, why bring it out—it’s an explosive!" Cheng Ziang shouted in reproach.
"I’m not tossing it around." Hu Daoke gave him a look and reluctantly put it away.
"Have you been on an airboat?" When Shangguan Jiu heard about the airboat, her eyes lit up instantly.
"Of course, airboats, airships, anti-gravity transport planes, you name it, I’ve been on it." Hu Daoke bragged.
"Here we go again..." Cheng Ziang said, speechless.
"What did it feel like? Tell us!" Shangguan Jiu said expectantly.
"Ah, what it felt like... It’s like sailing in the sky, but make sure to carry a parachute on you."
"And then what?" Shangguan Jiu continued to ask.
"Then we boarded a transport plane to leave Helros, only to be directly attacked by Ronisca’s air force, they sent two combat aircraft." Hu Daoke was getting more excited as he spoke.
"Air force? Combat aircraft?" Wu Tairan was puzzled by these modern terms.
"That’s normal," Luo’er explained, "Ronisca’s air force industry is quite developed, equal to Earth’s air force in terms of aircraft research and power systems."
"Speaking of which, I quickly grabbed the onboard heavy machine gun and fired a sweep, which scared those two combat aircraft away. They only dared to follow from a distance, not daring to come closer..." Hu Daoke bragged.
"Old Hu, it was me who was using that heavy machine gun, you just randomly fired your crappy gun, and in the end, you dropped it into the lake and couldn’t find it." Cheng Ziang calmly inferred on the side.
"You..." Hu Daoke was so exasperated; this lad wouldn’t even back him up and, moreover, was making him look bad.
"Alright, alright, the horses have had a good rest. Let’s speed up. We’re still a long way from Holy Heart City, but Fu’en and his men are getting very close. If we don’t cut them off, it’s trouble once they’re in the city." Luo’er played peacemaker in haste.
"Speaking of which, why would it be troublesome if they make it into the city? Are you saying the church court wants to protect him?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help but ask.
"That’s unlikely. Now that the Church Court is under fire, they can’t afford to offend the headquarters for the sake of Fu’en. Besides, with all the continuous information coming in, I think it’s very likely to be from them." Luo’er analyzed.
"You’re saying the Church Court plans to sacrifice Fu’en to please the headquarters. Why?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Don’t forget, because of Shariya, the church still owes headquarters a favor, and they don’t need to offend the headquarters." Luo’er analyzed.
"If that’s the case, why don’t they just catch Fu’en and hand him over to us?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help asking.
"That would seem too eager," Cheng Ziang inferred, "The Church Court wants to cooperate with the headquarters, they should be on the same page. If the Church Court shows goodwill upfront, they’ll be at a disadvantage when negotiating with the headquarters."
"So they’re just playing hard to get, providing intel for us to do the capture. If we catch him, it’s a favor on their part, if we don’t, it’s our bad luck." Hu Daoke made a grimace.
"You could say that!" Luo’er nodded, thinking his words made sense.
"Oh dear, our perfect vacation. How long has it been since we’ve had a break? One mission after another." Hu Daoke sighed.
"Enough idle chat, hurry up!" Cheng Ziang urged.
After a week of traveling, the group finally arrived at Holy Heart City on the scheduled time. This was due largely to the boundless plains of Odelanqi, which allowed horses to run to their full speed.
Gazing into the distant towering city walls, Yalunte, who had been quiet all the way, sighed, "Back again..."
"I remember you were once the corps commander of Holy Heart City, right?" Cheng Ziang looked at him and asked.
"Yes," Yalunte nodded, then sadly said, "I haven’t been back in over twenty years."
"Why?" Shangguan Jiu couldn’t help but ask.
"Mr. Sword Saint is a wanted man in Odelanqi." Luo’er explained.
"A wanted man? Mr. Yalunte committed a crime?" Shangguan Jiu looked at him in surprise.
"Everyone has their reasons, don’t assume the worst!" Murong interjected.
"It’s alright," Yalunte smiled and said, "I’ve let it go, but I don’t know if they have."
The church’s stance towards Yalunte was somewhat ambiguous as they knew Yalunte was working for their headquarters, always turning a blind eye to his whereabouts. However, in Odelanqi, Yalunte had always been a wanted criminal.
After all, he hugely embarrassed the Odelanqi royalty by kidnapping the princess from the palace. Even the current king, Gudelv, plans to not let him go.
However, kidnapping the princess was Odelanqi royalty’s version of the events. More precisely, he eloped with the princess. Sharing this would probably put the royal family in a more embarrassing light.
They didn’t need to enter the city; they had to stay in an inn outside the city to ambush Fu’en and his men. Being both fugitives and also of interest to the Judgement Legion, they had to be cautious moving within Odelanqi territory. Until the advance team reached the city, they were a hundred kilometers away from Holy Heart City.
Upon hearing they didn’t need to enter the city, Hu Daoke was overjoyed. He had long held a grudge against the inn in the city and wondered if the proprietor had gone bankrupt. The group stayed at an inn which was not managed by their informant, but it didn’t matter. The advance team was no longer as cautious as they had been during their first mission.
With the support of the Church Court, they can now move freely within the Church government-controlled countries. Their greatest threat had finally switched sides.
