Chapter 341 - 334: Opening the Otherworld Gate
Chapter 341: Chapter 334: Opening the Otherworld Gate
"What have you figured out?" Luo’er blanked for a moment. Ever since he began studying runes, he had lost count of the number of times he saw Tangmo in such a startled state.
"It’s the northern latitude, northern latitude 30.0... 30 degrees north latitude... Yue’er, what location is the 30 degrees north latitude?" Instead of the expected joyous expression, Tangmo furrowed her brows, lost in deep thought.
Upon hearing the latitude, even Baiyue was taken aback. She picked up a pen, shut her eyes as she recalled the geographic coordinates of Earth, and then drew a horizontal line on the makeshift world map.
"Include the longitude!" Tangmo said impatiently.
Baiyue was about to draw the line, when she found her hand shaking uncontrollably. The point where the longitude and latitude crossed was a place she was very familiar with.
With one swift stroke, Baiyue shakily drew a vertical line on the map. Looking at the crossed spot marked on the map, both girls’ faces gradually drained of color, their expressions turning grim.
"This is, this is... Chuan Zhong..." Tangmo stuttered out her conclusion in a shaky voice.
"Luo’er, there’s trouble..." Raising the map, Tangmo looked at Luo’er, on the verge of tears.
After seeing this, Luo’er quickly grabbed the map to look for himself, his face paling instantly as well.
"What happened?" Feliz curiously looked at the distraught Luo’er, asking carefully.
"This is... my country..." Luo’er turned his head, blankly voicing the outcome he was most reluctant to accept.
"What!" Luo’er’s sentence stunned both Feliz and Shariya, they didn’t expect these people to truly plan to link the Otherworld Gate to Earth, specifically to Luo’er’s country.
This could not possibly be a coincidence, otherwise, these people wouldn’t be able to set the coordinates with such precision. Because this longitude, south from the equator, is nearly completely the ocean; if it was set randomly, they would risk opening the Otherworld Gate at the bottom of the sea. Yet, they had exactly set land coordinates, specifically in a place with the densest human population.
"Moumou, report to the headquarters!" After zoning out for a moment, Luo’er quickly regained his composure and ordered Tangmo in a loud voice.
"Understood!" Tangmo nodded. In fact, she had already begun writing.
"Yue’er, pack up, I’ll call Little Ke back. We move into the city as soon as possible, preferably before..." He hadn’t finished speaking, before feeling a wave of dizziness and the urge to vomit. He fell painfully to the ground.
"Are you alright? What happened?" Seeing this, Feliz quickly rushed forward to help him up, asking with a worried expression.
"It’s a wave of magic in the direction of Lipei City. A very violent magical disturbance!" A seasoned mage, Shariya immediately sensed the fluctuations in the magical energy in the air, and pointed to the direction of Lipei City, shouting.
"Why is the disturbance so intense?" Feliz asked, supporting Luo’er and looking at him with puzzlement.
"There’re only two explanations for such a strong disturbance," Shariya answered, keeping her head low. "Either it’s a forbidden curse, or... they are... opening the Otherworld Gate!"
"I’m fine," Luo’er immediately pushed away Feliz, and continued to order, "Yue’er, go call Little Ke back immediately. Moumou, transmit the message then prepare for battle. We’re going into the city to close the Otherworld Gate!"
Then he closed his eyes and murmured a prayer: "I hope Ziang and the others have made their preparations."
In a short while, a bewildered Hu Daoke hurried over. Seeing everyone looking tense, he couldn’t help but ask, "What happened?"
"Load up the ammunition, prepare to head into the city; we are going to shut the gate!" Luo’er saw him and seriously instructed.
"Understood!" Without asking further, Hu Daoke immediately took out his reserve ammunition and magazines from his backpack and started to load the bullets.
Luo’er also dug out all his spare magazines, filled them up, and set them aside. Feliz stood by his side looking lost. She wanted to help, but she didn’t know how. Although a noble girl, she had never dealt with these magical weapons from Earth.
"Feliz, stay here and guard our belongings while we’re gone. If none of us return, run immediately. Don’t get caught by anyone. Understand?" Luo’er said while loading his ammunition.
"Let me go and help you all!" Feliz said anxiously.
"No need, this is our war. It has nothing to do with you!" Luo’er straightforwardly refused her good intentions.
"I want to do something for you too. It’s not about whether it has to do with me, I just want to help you, as a friend..." Feliz said with her lips pursed.
"By staying here and looking after our horses and equipment, you’re already helping us a lot," Luo’er responded.
"But you need people, right? I can help, although I am just a magic apprentice, and I haven’t perfected my skills, I can still do things within my abilities," Feliz said passionately, her fists clenched.
"You should have seen what these weapons can do to a person, but you might not know what we’re about to face. We’re up against an army of thousands." Luo’er said with a frown.
"I’m fine, I can cast second-level shield magic, it can block some of the attacks from such weapons." Feliz insisted stubbornly.
"You..." Luo’er felt frustrated, unsure of how to respond.
"Let her come with you. You need all the hands you can get right now. There must be someone to protect us while we cast spells, otherwise, if we get interrupted, we’d all be in danger." Shariya cut in.
"Dean Shariya, this is your student. Aren’t you worried about her?" Luo’er turned and asked.
"Feliz has been through so much - I think she’s grown. I believe she can help you. Having one more person can make a difference, so at least we won’t be fighting a lonely battle." Shariya said.
"Alright..." Luo’er glanced at Shariya and then looked at Feliz. She didn’t say anything, but a smile lit her face.
"Do you know how to use weapons?" Luo’er asked.
Feliz was taken aback and then shook her head. She’d never handled Earth’s firearms before.
"Never mind, let’s do this on the fly. Come here, let me teach you." Luo’er sighed and pulled out a spare AK74U submachine gun chambered in 7.62mm from his backpack.
"This is the sight, the crosshair – aim using three points lined up... down is fully automatic, further down is semi-automatic, which means one firing per trigger pull..." Luo’er started to provide hands-on assault training from behind her.
"Remember, never aim the gun muzzle at your allies. Don’t put your finger on the trigger when you’re not firing!" After a brief training session, Feliz mastered the basics of firearm shooting. Luo’er then dressed her in tactical gear and attached three spare AK magazines to her outfit.
"I got it!" Feliz clutched the submachine gun tightly, nodding gravely. Obviously, she was still not very comfortable with the gear she was equipped with, hence her shoulders ached terribly.
Once everything was ready, Luo’er led the group and entered the city in a rush. The magical fluctuations were still ongoing; apparently, manually opening the Otherworld Gate was not an easy task.
When they arrived at the entrance to the sewer, only Cheng Ziang was there. Unlike before, he was now dressed in military uniform instead of his mage outfit.
"What’s the situation now?" Luo’er went up to Cheng Ziang and asked anxiously.
"The situation is serious," Cheng Ziang said, his face shadowed by guilt. "Those people seemed to have discovered the bodies of the mages who had been sent after Dean Shariya and initiated a city-wide manhunt. We narrowly escaped by finding and changing into soldiers’ uniforms. But I think they’ve hastened their plan to activate the Otherworld Gate to prevent their plot from being exposed."
"Where is Mr. Sword Saint?" Luo’er asked.
"Inside, waiting for you. Let’s go, I’ll lead you to the place where they are casting the spell." Cheng Ziang urged urgently.
"Has everything been arranged properly?" Luo’er asked anxiously.
"Don’t worry, it’s all sorted!" Cheng Ziang beckoned, gesturing for everyone to follow him inside.
Under Cheng Ziang’s guidance, the group entered the city where Yalunte was waiting for them. The city was deserted as all the troops were set near the Otherworld Gate in the square, ready for the gate to open.
Luo’er didn’t know how long these people could survive after entering Earth, given the formidable Rapid Reaction Force on the other side. But he knew that if any of them managed to kill even a single citizen on Earth, it would break the existing balance. And then, Luo’er didn’t even dare to imagine what could happen.
Miles away from Yazhi City, Nightingale finally received a message from the advance team. The moment Wang Xu processed the message, his expression changed drastically and he ordered his intelligence operatives to immediately forward the information to headquarters on Earth.
"What happened?" Seeing Wang Xu’s grim expression, Li Si asked cautiously.
"See for yourself!" Wang Xu tossed the information to Li Si and let out a deep sigh.
Li Si looked at the report, his brow furrowing immediately. After a while, he spoke in a solemn tone, "We should order an immediate evacuation of civilians in the area and mobilize the nearby Rapid Reaction Force. There’s still time."
"There aren’t many civilians in that area!" Wang Xu sighed, and then cursed, "Damn it, there must be a mole involved in this attack!"
"Why would you say that?" Li Si asked, looking puzzled.
"That area isn’t just any area," Wang Xu turned to him and said, "it’s the location of Shenghua Academy!"
"What!" Hearing this, Li Si gave a shout of surprise.
