Chapter 318 - 311: Forbidden Curse Magic

Chapter 318: Chapter 311: Forbidden Curse Magic

Wang Xu had only taken two steps when he caught sight of a map not far away. It was a defense map of the Earth’s army surrounding Yazhi City. Although they had not dispatched an army, they had participated in the plan, so they were aware of the Earth army’s defensive situation.

"Have the defense coordinates on the map been updated?" Wang Xu asked, pointing at the map.

"They were just updated five minutes ago!" Li Si answered without hesitation.

Upon hearing this, Wang Xu squinted at the defense map, then pointed out various locations: "The U.S. forces are stationed here, French forces here, British forces here, Israeli forces here... Why are all these guys standing pat and letting NATO troops go to First Line Gorge to block the enemy?"

"They are support troops, responsible for providing fire support. The NATO-led forces are mainly responsible for the main attack," Li Si replied from behind Wang Xu.

"Heh," Wang Xu sneered and shook his head, "Is it because they were defeated by the Otherworld army thirty years ago?"

On the defense map, the armies of these countries were surrounding Yazhi City, with only a single NATO force pushing forward to occupy the First Line Gorge.

"How many troops are they sending to First Line Gorge?" Wang Xu inquired.

"According to the observation team’s report, there should be about 150,000 troops." Li Si glanced at the report, then answered.

"150,000 people squeezed into this place, there isn’t enough space on the battlefield to deploy," Wang Xu tapped on the location of the First Line Gorge and fell into deep thought, furrowing his brows.

"Are you suggesting there’s a problem with their strategic deployment?" Li Si tentatively asked.

"I’ve been to First Line Gorge, and as a strategic chokepoint, it’s easy to defend, hard to attack. In my estimation, it would take only about 50,000 men to fully occupy it. Even if the enemy has a million strong soldiers, they would be stuck there, unless they take a detour," Wang Xu replied.

"Perhaps, after occupying First Line Gorge, they plan to continue advancing?" Li Si speculated.

"Once they leave First Line Gorge, it would be very dangerous. It’s all plains, with no defensive terrain. The NATO forces are primarily infantry, how could they possibly withstand the enemy’s armoured cavalry? Moreover, the Command Department’s objective is to hold Yazhi City, not to launch an offensive," said Wang Xu.

"So you’re saying, there’s absolutely no need for so many people to be stationed at First Line Gorge," Li Si hesitated.

Wang Xu lowered his head, falling into deep thought. Suddenly, as if he’d thought of something, he asked, "Has the vanguard reached First Line Gorge yet?"

"Almost there!" Li Si answered.

Upon hearing this, Wang Xu lapsed back into silence. After a while, he voiced his innermost worries: "What if someone has set an ambush at First Line Gorge?"

"But, there’s no intelligence indicating that the Church Court’s army is gathered around First Line Gorge. Could the Advance Team’s intelligence be wrong?" Li Si couldn’t help but question.

Wang Xu pondered for a long time before sighing and saying, "In the Magic World, quality often plays a decisive role, even more important than quantity."

"What do you mean?" Li Si asked hesitantly.

"To kill 150,000 people, one may not necessarily need to resort to conventional means," Wang Xu said cryptically, leaving Li Si even more puzzled.

Atop the peak of First Line Gorge, on a platform where the wind was abnormally strong, almost making it difficult to open one’s eyes, stood four men clad in black robes, gazing at the Otherworld Gate in the distance and the Earth’s army at their feet, looking much like a column of ants.

This was one of the few high peaks of Odelanqi, standing over a thousand meters high. Beyond lay the vast Odelanqi Plain. During the Aud War thirty years ago, this was an important strategic location leading to Odelanqi. But after the ceasefire between the two worlds, the strategic importance of this location greatly diminished and no army has built any defensive positions here since.

Perhaps the Otherworlders thought the Earthlings would not launch another attack on Otherworld, or perhaps it was intentional. But regardless, until the arrival of the Earth’s army, there were still no stationed troops here.

Among the four, the one at the forefront was an old man with white hair and beard, bearing the typical Aud appearance, but his face was already lined with wrinkles. Though his energy remained strong, there was a faint trace of sorrow on his face.

"Lord Falok, the magic array has been set. When would you...." A middle-aged man with a beard standing behind him asked respectfully. Two young men stood behind him, presumably under his command.

"I will act when they arrive," The old man replied nonchalantly, not turning his head.

"Then, I will depart now. Lord Falok, don’t forget the mission entrusted by our master..." The bearded man hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten..." Falok turned his head, his tone still calm.

"May the God of Light guide you to heaven!" The bearded man bowed respectfully, then turned to leave with his subordinates.

"Convey my message to your master," Falok suddenly stopped the bearded man, sighing softly, "I am willing to do anything for him but I hope he will not dispose of my goodwill and won’t forget his promise to me."

"I understand!" The bearded man inclined slightly, then took his subordinates to the edge of the cliff.

A giant mechanical glider was tied at the cliff’s edge. After getting on the glider, the two subordinates untied the ropes, then jumped off the cliff together. The strong mountain wind immediately carried them up, and they glided towards the Odelanqi Plain.

Falok watched as the three men left, feeling a poignant chill in his heart as his sorrow became more apparent. He walked shakily with his magic wand towards the center of the inscribed magic array.

The magic array, about ten meters in diameter, was intricately carved. At the edge of the array stood four stone pillars connected to the array. At the top of the pillars were dense magic crystals, the size of pineapples, providing magic power for the entire array.

The purpose of this array was to enhance the speed and concentration of magic absorption and release; it was an auxiliary magic array. Today, Falok would burn his life away here, casting the last spell of his life, a forbidden curse.

Despite his high 95% affinity for magic and his magic resistance lower than 2%, he couldn’t withstand the impact of the 2% magic power. The moment the forbidden curse was cast was the moment of his death.

This forbidden curse would not only kill him, but also the tens of thousands of Earth troops below the mountain. In other words, Falok would exchange his life for the lives of those tens of thousands.

Even though he didn’t mention the man’s name in front of the bearded man, he was willing to die for him. In the magic world, those who could cast a forbidden curse were undoubtedly national treasures and would be pampered by the state. However, Falok willingly gave up such a luxurious life, choosing to use his life to complete the final forbidden curse.

He was not prejudiced towards magic; he just thought that sacrificing his life for this person was well worth it.

Falok discarded the irrelevant thoughts in his heart and began to chant spells. He then gently tapped the magic array on the ground with his huge magic wand, activating the array. Its lines began to emit a faint light, and the four magic crystals that energized the magic array started to glow.

Next, Falok raised his magic wand high and started chanting the spell of the forbidden curse that he had never dared to use, while turning in a clockwise direction.

As he chanted, the magic power around him converged rapidly on him and was converted into the element he desired through the wand in his hand. The energizing magic crystals in the array were visibly dimming, and the lines of the magic array were growing brighter, to the point of being dazzling.

The glow was a result of the high concentration of magical power circulating in the lines. The magic power in the surrounding air was rapidly absorbed by Falok, and the magic power from other areas quickly filled this almost vacuum atmosphere.

With the movement of magical power, the air also began to flow, raising a tornado on the mountain top. The strong wind made it difficult for the Earth army below to open their eyes. They all put on dust goggles to resist the strong wind.

They noticed the strange phenomenon on the nearby mountain and stopped to watch, unawares of the impending danger. The violently fluctuating magic power swiftly passed through their bodies, and some even started to feel severe discomfort despite having taken suppressive medicine.

In the sky, along with the formation of the tornado, black clouds began to gather over the mountain top, forming a massive whirlpool.

The thick, black clouds obscured the sky. The Earth soldiers looked up at the sky, and some began to feel severe headaches, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. The soldiers suspected that the anomaly in the sky was causing this, so they all paused their march and refused to go forward.

In the sky, birds were flying around in panic, some even crashing directly into the soldiers below. Animals in the gorge, completely ignoring the gathered soldiers, fled in a panic, as if something threatened their existence.

However, the commanders’ reports suggested that it was just a phenomenon caused by strong convection weather, and there was no need to halt. But if they had an Otherworlder who could sense magical disturbances with them, they would know that the magic power in this area was violently fluctuating, indicating that someone at the center of the vortex was casting a large spell.

However, one tragic circumstance led to another. The Earth soldiers were unable to perceive the fluctuations in magic power, and the Command Department several kilometers away did not notice anything wrong either. These factors came together, ultimately leading to this tragedy.
