Chapter 315: Chapter 308: Learning to Grow Up
Yalunte’s long sword remained pointed at Tangmo, regarding her appearance, he finally breathed a sigh of relief, then lowered his hand, slid his sword back into its sheath.
It seemed that Tangmo had transformed back. The only concern now was Luo’er’s condition. Despite his worry about Luo’er’s health, Yalunte was uncertain if Tangmo has fully returned to her original self, so he dared not approach and check. All he could do was stand and watch the two of them.
It would be better if the other members of the Advance Team were here, but given their speed, they might not find this place until the day after tomorrow. And that’s assuming they followed the marks he left.
By now, Tangmo had completely turned back into her previous self, Moumou, a timid and childish Moumou. Faced with the current situation, she was far from Momo in capability, only hugging Luo’er and weeping uncontrollably, without any clue on how to solve the problem.
"Girl, check right now if the elf still breathes, hugging him like this will eventually suffocate him," Yalunte pulled out his sword, stuck it in the ground, and leaned against a tree trunk, speaking in a relaxed manner.
"Mr. Yalunte, please...I beg you to save Luo’er..." Tangmo pleaded tearfully.
"No way, I must keep an eye on you, lest your other side sneak attack me. I would be in deep trouble then," Yalunte shrugged, speaking in a composed voice.
Hearing his words, Tangmo guiltily lowered her head. Yalunte’s worries were legitimate. Even she couldn’t guarantee full control over her body. If Momo controlled her and sneaked an attack on Yalunte, he wouldn’t know whether to fight back or surrender.
Seeing Tangmo sniffling, Yalunte couldn’t help but sigh and said, "do you know why your other self detests you so much?"
"Why?" Tangmo looked up at him.
"Because you’re really useless, or to put it bluntly, you’re a complete and utter excuse for an adventurer!" Yalunte watched her, speaking flatly, not masking his harsh appraisal.
"I, I am...useless..." Upon hearing his words, Tangmo lowered her head, her face full of guilt.
"Like you are now, with Luo’er unconscious, you have no way to help. You don’t know how to save him, only crying and begging for others’ help."
Yalunte sighed again, "I recall, you’re supposed to be the most adept at magic in your team; even Feliz called you a genius student from the Sacred Heart Magic Academy. However, all your supposed talent is a waste considering you can’t even handle a situation like this but just watch Luo’er being swallowed by death."
"I believe you’ve been in this world for more than a year. According to their description of you, it seems that you haven’t made any progress. Your team has experienced so much, yet you remain the same as when you first arrived from Earth, nothing has changed."
"I don’t know why you’re like this. Maybe it’s because Captain Luo’er spoils you and your siblings respect you. Hence, you don’t feel the need to grow. Yet, girl, Luo’er is dying. If you can’t save him, let the other you do it. However, she might kill Luo’er instead."
"You might think that you were replaced by your other self because your current existence was rejected by everyone. However, with the way you are now, you deserve that denial, because you’re really of no use!"
Upon finish his elongated speech, Yalunte lowered his head and closed his mouth to rest a bit. He was also worried for Luo’er’s condition, but he wasn’t planning to intervene. His life as a wanderer taught him to be wary of hidden threats. Unless he was completely sure that Tangmo was back to her original self, he wouldn’t dare approach.
Of course, that didn’t mean he couldn’t save Luo’er, but he wasn’t planning to help yet. He hoped to see Tangmo grow, as she was his son’s teammate. Her growth could only benefit his son.
After taking in his words, Tangmo pondered for a while and finally resolved to stop crying. She wiped the tears on her face with the back of her hand, only to smear more blood on it. The strong smell of blood filled her nostrils, almost making her retch. But she didn’t back down and began examining Luo’er’s injuries.
Just like Yalunte had said, the fundamental reason why she was denied was her uselessness and fragility. Although Momo was competent and skilful, she was not Tangmo. Luo’er and the others would find it hard to accept her. Moreover, with her radical thinking, she would easily become an unstable element within the team.
Although no one liked Momo, they didn’t like her current self either. After all, no one wanted to carry a burden during a mission. Tangmo didn’t realize this until Yalunte’s reminder. As Yalunte had said, Luo’er adored her, the others respected her, so she leads a comfortable life even without growing.
After this incident, Tangmo knew she could no longer continue this way. She wanted to help everyone; she wanted to become their backbone, just like Luo’er. She didn’t want Momo to reappear anymore, she couldn’t deny herself any longer.
Tangmo shook her head forcefully, dismissing the unrealistic thoughts in her head and focusing on examining Luo’er’s condition. She cleaned the blood on his mouth and nose with her clothes, then opened his mouth to ensure his breathing was unobstructed.
Then, she bent down to listen to Luo’er’s heartbeat. It was faint, but at least it wasn’t stopping, which was enough to raise her spirits.
She laboriously tore open the clothing on Luo’er’s chest, then examined his healed scar. The scar had long since healed, indicating that Luo’er must have suffered internal injuries.
"Luo’er’s illness is Magic Power Erosion, caused by the explosion of magic power leading to bleeding in the damaged parts of his body. So now I should... now I should..."
Tangmo talked to herself, scratching her messy hair. After taking a deep breath, she finally thought of a practical method.
"First, use the first-level healing magic to heal his internal injuries. As long as the spellcasting goes smoothly, it won’t damage his body’s pulse. Then, Luo’er should have medicines to treat Magic Power Erosion..."
She picked up the magic wand on the ground again, and then pressed it against Luo’er’s chest. After removing all distractions, she began to chant the healing magic.
When Tangmo was at the Sacred Heart Magic Academy, she had already mastered the third-level healing magic, but she didn’t dare to use it on Luo’er because she was afraid that too much magic power would damage Luo’er’s already fragile pulse, which would cause more harm than good.
She chanted the healing magic, the effect of the first-level healing magic was very weak, so treating Luo’er’s internal injuries would take a long time, but the input of magic power was very low, so the damage to his pulse could be minimized.
This process lasted for almost two hours. During this time, Tangmo constantly cast magic without any interruption. Even Mr. Yalunte had to admire her magic abilities for being able to sustain casting magic for a long time. That not only tests one’s magical ability, but also one’s ability to chant spells.
Because of the long time chanting, mages often mumble and interrupt the magic. But Tangmo did not have this issue, her magic did not break in those two hours. In other words, she repeated the healing magic countless times, without mumbling any words.
During these two hours, Mr. Yalunte didn’t rest either. On the surface, he seemed to be leaning against a tree trunk for rest, but in reality, he was always keeping an eye on his surroundings, preventing people or beasts from interrupting their treatment. His longsword was jammed into the mud in front of him, ready to be drawn out to attack any appearing objects within a second if he needed.
Under Tangmo’s treatment, Luo’er’s complexion gradually eased and showed a hint of color. The attack did not cause him magic damage, but severe bleeding caused by internal injuries. As long as the bleeding could be stopped, he would have a line of survival.
Finally, after Tangmo’s tireless efforts, Luo’er let out a painful cough and slowly woke up. Seeing the worried look on Tangmo’s face, he finally heaved a sigh of relief, then said, "You’re finally back..."
"I’m sorry, Luo’er..." Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, tears once again fell uncontrollably from Tangmo’s eyes, dripping onto Luo’er’s face, breaking up the bloodstains that had already set on his face.
"It’s alright, as long as you’re back, everything is over..." Luo’er said weakly.
"It’s not over, her mistakes are my mistakes too. If you don’t punish me, I will feel guilty!" Tangmo sniffled, taking responsibility upon herself.
"You..." Luo’er looked at her, appearing to want to say something but hesitated. He sighed again, then said, "Your mistake is serious, definitely needs punishment. I can’t shield you on this one..."
"Thank you!" A slight smile appeared on Tangmo’s face.
"You seem to have grown up," Luo’er extended a hand to touch her face, and with a frown on his face, he said, "But why are you so disheveled, your hair is all messy, like a nesting chicken."
"Not at all!" Tangmo wiped away her tears and her sorrowful face burst into smiles.
"Right..." Suddenly, Tangmo remembered something and began searching frantically. Finally, she found Luo’er’s tactical vest which had been taken off and from its pockets, she found the suppressive medication Luo’er typically took.
"Luo’er, have some medicine first!" She squeezed out two capsules and handed them to him.
"Thank you!" Luo’er weakly said after accepting the capsules.
"Hey!" Mr. Yalunte called out to them from the side, then took off the water bottle he carried with him and threw it to Tangmo.
