Mr. Yalunte went straight to the office, where Wang Xu was still attending to state affairs. As the Chief of Headquarters, he had endless work to do every day, unlike Luo’er and the others who could take a break once their assignments were done.

Although there was the aid of an inhibitory potion, Wang Xu still needed to return to Earth to adjust his physical condition, to avoid irreversible damage caused by excessive Magic Power Erosion.

By the time Yalunte arrived at the door, Wang Xu was still engrossed in his documents, completely oblivious to his arrival.

Approximately a year ago, Wang Xu had become the Chief of Headquarters. Yalunte happened to be stationed there at the time and had a brief encounter with him. At first glance, he found this man of relatively the same age as him quite agreeable and easy to talk to. At least he didn’t bind him like the previous Chief did, using Earth’s restrictive norms and rules.

"Tap tap..."

Yalunte lightly knocked on the door, attracting Wang Xu’s attention. When he looked up and saw Yalunte, he was astonished.

"You’ve finally decided to come back?" Wang Xu looked him up and down with a disapproving face before speaking.

"I’ve completed the mission. Don’t I get to rest?" Yalunte massaged his aching shoulder and entered. As soon as he stepped into the office, Wang Xu caught a whiff of the stale alcohol smell on him.

"What on Earth are you thinking, wandering around and not even wanting the reward money?" Wang Xu asked, looking at him.

"Didn’t I get an advance payment from the elf?" Yalunte paused slightly, then replied.

"That kid didn’t report it to me at all and included the money in the operational budget!" Wang Xu thought for a moment, guessing Luo’er’s intention.

"Oh well, since it’s Luo’er’s good intention," Wang Xu sighed, then took out a bag of gold coins from the drawer and threw them onto the table, "Take it. This is your reward. The money you advanced was included in the Advance Team’s operating expenses by Luo’er."

Despite the Headquarters seeming stingy with Yalunte, they were certainly not short of funds. Yalunte’s previous financial squeeze was solely due to the previous Chief’s disdain for him, thus reducing his budget. However, when Wang Xu took over the reins, he was unaware of this, and his budget for Yalunte was still based on past experience.

"Ah, I must thank the elf when he comes back!" Having been a seasoned adventurer for years, Yalunte was not one to let go of any benefits so easily.

After stuffing the money bag into his pocket, Yalunte paused for a moment, then earnestly said, "Now, it’s time for you to fulfill your promise to me."

Wang Xu sighed, of course, he knew what Yalunte was hinting at. When he last reported to the higher-ups, he had already received their response. In principle, he could reveal the truth to Yalunte but on the condition that he did not disrupt Headquarters’ arrangements. Otherwise, the Headquarters would retaliate immediately.

"Where are my child and Lin? It’s been over twenty years, you should give me an answer by now. When you took Lin away from me, you solemnly promised that you could save her life, but you still deceived me in the end. I hope you aren’t deceiving me this time!" Yalunte said coldly, slowly unsheathing his sword from his waist, his intent to threaten with it clear.

"Please, don’t be impulsive. The child is safe and grown up, but..." Wang Xu gestured to calm down and then quickly changed the topic. "We need a promise from you that even if you know where the child is, you can’t disrupt Headquarters’ arrangements, nor separate from your employment relationship with us."

"Enough," Yalunte finally drew his sword, pointed it at Wang Xu, and coldly said, "For the sake of my child, I agreed to so many of your demands over the years. Aren’t you satisfied yet?"

"Mr. Yalunte, if you kill me, you won’t see your child in this lifetime. Are you willing to do that?" Wang Xu stood up from the chair, raising his hands. He wasn’t afraid of Yalunte’s threats, even knowing that Yalunte could penetrate his throat in the blink of an eye.

"You’ve gone too far. You repeatedly promised me that you wouldn’t use my child to threat me. All these years, I’ve been working hard for you, only to have you coerce me with the child in the end. If you’re all so shameless, what can I do? We might as well all die together. Lin’s child is my only attachment in this world. If not so, I would’ve reunited with her long ago!" Yalunte retorted.

"Mr. Yalunte, we aren’t threatening you with the child. I just hope that you can assure us that you can see your child but you can’t recognise each other. If you can promise me this, I’ll tell you where he is!" Wang Xu said calmly, hands held high.

"Why, give me a reason!" Yalunte still held his sword.

"I’ve said before, you can’t disrupt Headquarters’ deployment or leave Headquarters. If you can do this, then I will allow you two to meet!" said Wang Xu.

Yalunte lowered his head and pondered for a moment; eventually, he compromised and put down his sword. He sighed deeply and said, "I promise you."

"Very well, thank you for your cooperation!" Cheng Ziang nodded with a smile and put down his hands.

He sat back down in the chair, took out a photo from the office desk drawer, and handed it to Yalunte.

"Here’s a picture of the child as a small boy, take a look!" said Wang Xu.

Yalunte excitedly took the picture. In it was a boy around five or six years old with golden hair. His facial features resembled those of an Aud person. However, Yalunte found it unusual that the boy didn’t resemble either Lin or himself.

"Is this... our child?" Yalunte asked, giving him a skeptical look.

"You must be wondering why the child doesn’t resemble you or Princess Lin, right?" Wang Xu chuckled and confidently replied. "You might even suspect that we found a random child to fool you."

"He indeed doesn’t resemble Lin or me!" said Yalunte, frowning.

"Don’t get upset, look at this." Wang Xu calmly handed him a file.

Yalunte took the file, which contained a comparsion chart with pictures of four people, marked with highlighted features they share in red. These people were Yalunte, Princess Lin, the little boy, and an unfamiliar Asian woman.

Through highlighting, Yalunte was surprised to find the boy had inherited quite a few features from him and Lin. However, it wasn’t obviously apparent, which was why he didn’t recognise the boy at first glance.

"What on earth is going on?" Yalunte asked, looking puzzled.

"A child born of you and Princess Lin is also an Otherworlder, but you should be aware that Otherworlders can’t survive on Earth, especially unborn children." After pausing for a moment, Wang Xu began to explain further, "So to allow the child to survive on Earth, we intentionally adjusted his genetic structure, adding human genes to change him from an Otherworlder to a hybrid, enabling him to adapt to both worlds."

"Then the child..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Wang Xu interrupted with, "I know what you want to ask about. In terms of the child’s appearance, because the injected genes from Earth came from the maternal side, which is dominant, he looks more like a human and less like you and Princess Lin."

"Can you be more specific?" Yalunte asked, looking bewildered.

"In layman terms, this child not only carries your bloodline and Princess Lin’s, but also flows the bloodline from an Earth mother. It is thanks to the Earth’s mother’s bloodline that allows him to survive on Earth." Wang Xu explained.

As a result of the Origin Project, the Ministry of Defense has mobilized most of the nation’s premier biologists to participate in the program at Haiya Academy. This has propelled Haiya Academy’s bio-genetic engineering to rapid growth. Besides the dead, there’s nothing they cannot resolve.

"The child... has three families..." Yalunte muttered, head lowered.

"More or less, but biologically speaking, he is still your child with Princess Lin." Said Wang Xu.

"Is the child really grown? " Yalunte asked eagerly.

"Of course not, that picture was taken over ten years ago." Wang Xu replied.

"Then he now is..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Wang Xu interrupted by pulling out another file, flipping to a page and handed it to Yalunte.

Yalunte took the file, it contained a picture of the boy for each year. Each flip was one year older. As he reached the latter pages, he found the boy more and more familiar. After flipping through several pages, he was completely stunned. His eyes widened in shock, staring at the picture in the file.

Because he saw the familiar face of Cheng Ziang in the last few pages of photos. When he saw these pictures, he was dumbstruck.

"I assume you two have already met." Wang Xu spoke calmly, having anticipated Yalunte’s reaction.

"This, this, he’s our child, mine and Lin’s..." Yalunte gasped, struggling to speak coherently. The thought of the moments he has shared with Cheng Ziang left him stunned, unable to gather his strength.

"No wonder I found him familiar, no wonder he resembles Lin so much..." Yalunte struggled to speak, choking on his words as if a bone was lodged in his throat. One could indeed see a hint of Lin in Cheng Ziang’s face, but he had overlooked it at the time, missing the chance to recognize his son.
