Chapter 299: Chapter 292: The Past of Yalunte

After wandering around the seaside city for nearly two months, Yalunte finally returned to Yazhi City. By then, he had spent all his bounty and was in tatters. If it were not for the long sword around his waist and his messy blonde hair, the mercenaries on the outskirts of the Headquarters almost didn’t recognize him.

Having had his identity confirmed, he dragged his weary steps to the outskirts of the mansion. At this point in time, he had almost nothing valuable except for his two swords. If he hadn’t sold his horse, he probably wouldn’t have had the money to return to the Headquarters.

Entering the mansion and seeing the Otherworlders with their black hair and black eyes coming and going, Yalunte’s thoughts seemed to return to that clear morning more than twenty years ago.

One clear morning, with the cold morning mist enveloping the surroundings, the iron gate of the mansion was knocked loudly, and a stranger clad in a cloak appeared on the other side of the gate.

"Sir, sir, please save my wife!" The young Yalunte pounded on the iron gate, anxiously speaking loudly to the stranger on the other side. Behind him was a carriage.

"Who are you, and how did you get here?" The cloaked stranger frowned at him and asked tentatively in not so fluent Tasta language.

"Your friend told me. He told me that you can save my wife’s life. I beg you, my wife is on the brink of death!" At this moment, Yalunte had lost his arrogant demeanor of a Sword Saint, he pleaded with a humble tone.

"Our friend?" The cloak-wearing man looked hesitant.

"He is an Otherworlder. He told me I can come here and find his friends!" Yalunte explained loudly.

"Otherworlder, how do you know we are Otherworlders?" The cloaked man looked somewhat panicked, reaching his hand into his armpit, preparing to draw a gun.

"This, this is something your friend gave to me to give to you. He said once you see this card, you will help us!" Yalunte hurriedly took out a card from his pocket and handed it to the cloaked man.

The cloaked man stared at him skeptically for a moment, with his right hand still ready to draw the gun, he took the card with his left hand.

He glanced at the card and was surprised to find that the writing on it was in Chinese characters. After he read the whole text on it, his expression immediately changed.

Then, he withdrew his right hand and quickly opened the iron door for Yalunte. He took a look around after he stepped outside, looking at him and asked, "No one followed you, did they?"

"No!" Yalunte answered truthfully.

"Come in, come in quickly!" The cloaked man ushered him to drive the carriage into the mansion in a hurry, then took another cautious look around before locking the iron door again.

The carriage pulled up directly to the front of the mansion. Yalunte carried an unconscious young girl from the carriage and hurried into the villa under the guidance of the cloaked man.

"Boss, there’s trouble!" After the cloaked man settled the two in a room, he rushed to the director’s office.

"What’s the situation?" The director asked him.

"Take a look at this!" The cloaked man handed him a card.

"An Liang, wasn’t this guy supposed to be back earlier?" The director frowned as soon as he saw the signature on the card.

"Look at the content on the card!" The cloaked man said.

The director continued to read, then immediately stood up in excitement: "Oh, Princess Odelanqi...pregnancy confirmed..."

"Princess..." The director felt he was facing a tricky situation. He took out a file and started to look through it anxiously.

"Princess, princess, the princess of Odelanqi...Found it, the missing Princess of Odelanqi, Lin Fiorent...She was abducted by the head of the royal knight regiment two months ago, her whereabouts are unknown..."

"Knight regiment leader, knight regiment leader..." Muttering to himself, the director frantically pulled out another file and began to rummage through it, "Found it, became a knight regiment leader at the mere age of twenty, the continent’s greatest sword saint, Yalunte Burlingchi!"

"Is it them?" The director found two portraits and handed them to the cloaked man to verify.

"Yes, it is them!" The cloaked man took the file, nodded in affirmation.

"Where are they?" the director looked at the cloaked man and asked excitedly.

"I have arranged them in a room!" The cloaked man said.

"Immediately arrange for medical staff to go for a check and inform the Otherworld Gate to prepare!" The director commanded loudly.

"Yes!" The cloaked man nodded and then left the office.

That day was chaotic, Yalunte only knew that a group of people flooded the room he and his wife were in. After their examination, they all agreed that she must be sent to Earth for treatment. At this point, Lin was at death’s door, and there was no chance of saving her here.

So, under his reluctant gaze, that group of Earthlings took Lin into a carriage and shipped her back to Earth. What followed was a long, distressing wait.

About half a month later, the director of the mansion called him into his office. In there, the director told him in a regretful tone that Lin had died. She didn’t make it through two weeks after her arrival on Earth, and the cause of death was Magic Power Erosion.

Upon hearing the news, Yalunte was on the verge of collapse. He couldn’t accept the director’s explanation and even wanted to draw his sword in threat. Faced with the sword at his neck, the director calmly told him the only piece of good news.

"Mr. Yalunte, we have saved your child!"

"Child, child..." Yalunte was stunned, his sword fell to the ground with a loud clang. He grabbed the collar of the manager and asked excitedly, "Where is my child!?"

"Please, calm down. Your child is safe, and we are putting all our efforts into rescuing him." The manager maintained his calm in the face of the excited Yalunte.

"Give me back my child!" Yalunte said excitedly. He trusted these people, but in the end, they caused Lin’s death. Although he understood that Lin was terminally ill, if she hadn’t been sent to Earth, he would have been able to be by her side until her very last moment.

"Mr. Yalunte, I hope you can calm down. Your child has not yet been born. If he is transferred between two worlds at this stage, he would certainly die," the manager stated calmly.

"What do you guys really intend to do?" Yalunte released his hold on the man’s collar, staring at him as he asked.

"Firstly, your child is safe. However, he must be born and grow up on Earth, or he could easily die prematurely. We can help you take care of your child, from birth to adulthood, but..." The manager hesitated as he spoke.

"But what?" Yalunte stared at him.

"But as a trade-off, we hope that you could work for us," the manager stated bluntly.

"Are you trying to use my child as leverage against me?" Yalunte asked coldly.

"Please, don’t take it so harshly," the manager waved his hand and then explained, "I hope you can understand that it’s not just about your child’s safe birth and upbringing; you’ll also need to ensure that he can survive the magical power of Otherworld. You could never afford the cost of all this in your whole lifetime. We hope that you can serve us. In return, we will help your child to be born safely and grow up. When he can adapt to the conditions of this world, we will hand him over to you."

"What about Lin?" Yalunte asked, staring at him.

"Princess Lin’s body has been frozen. If you want, we can return it to you," the manager said.

"No need!" Yalunte refused without hesitation.

He couldn’t bear to see Lin’s body, seeing it would only cause him to fall back into despair.

"You’re not lying to me, are you? The child, the child will be born safely and grow up on Earth?" Yalunte looked at him and asked.

"We will not break our word, you should believe in our medical abilities!" the manager said steadfastly.

"Alright then, what do you want me to do?" After a long silence, Yalunte chose to surrender.

"We will employ you as a mercenary to work for us, and we will also provide a corresponding compensation. How does that sound?" After Yalunte expressed his agreement, the manager’s attitude became respectful.

"All of that doesn’t matter, I just need you to take good care of mine and Lin’s child!" Yalunte said coldly.

"That’s settled then. Here’s to our cooperation, Mr. Yalunte!" A grin spread across the manager’s face as he reached out his hand.

Yalunte was jolted from his memory by the passing pedestrians. He looked around; although this place was not the mansion he first arrived in, the layout was almost the same. This made him recall the past every time he came here.

Yalunte walked along the stone path to the entrance of the villa, where most of the staff greeted him. They ignored his shabby appearance since they all recognized him.

"Mr. Yalunte, could you tidy up a bit?" Li Si came to meet him as he walked into the villa, looking at him with a face of disgust.

"Even bringing my horse here was difficult, it was all because of the small budget you provided!" Yalunte replied lightly.

"As if giving you more budget wouldn’t just end up being spent on drinks at the tavern," Li Si said with a frown.

"I’ve hardly been drinking recently!" Yalunte defended.

Li Si glanced at his untidy appearance and sighed, then asked, "Are you hungry?"

"I am, I haven’t eaten anything on the way here." Yalunte nodded and answered truthfully.

"I’ll have the kitchen prepare something for you. You should wait in the dining room... no, go take a bath and change your clothes. I’ll have someone find you some new clothes!" Li Si changed her mind, frowning as she looked him up and down.

"No rush on that. Is Wang Xu here?" Yalunte waved his hand, interrupting her.

"He is, he’s in his office," Li Si answered honestly.

"That’s fine then, I’m going to see him first!" Yalunte nodded, then got up and started heading in the direction of the office.

"Why are you looking for him? There aren’t any tasks at the moment!" Li Si asked puzzledly.

"I have something to discuss!" Yalunte responded without looking back, "Prepare some food for me first!"
