Chapter 261: Chapter 254: Leaving the Battlefield

They mounted their horses and raced down the path they had come from. The clash of two opposing forces echoed from behind, a fierce and unending battle. Considering the powers which coveted Arya’s Blade, Luo’er suspected that the gunmen might have been from the Aud people who had attacked their city.

Following the path they had come from, they slowly distanced themselves from the conflict on horseback. Their pace was slow, but at this point, there was practically no one who could catch up with them.

Hearing the intensive gunfire and explosions from behind, Luo’er glanced at Arya’s Blade tucked on Ziang’s waist and sighed in relief. This mission had been more dangerous than any they had undertaken before, and all of them bore some degree of injury. Fortunately, all five of them managed to withdraw from the area in one piece.

Their primary concern now was Yalunte. He had insisted on covering their retreat, but they had lost sight of him. Ziang occasionally glanced back, showing concern he had never expressed for a stranger before. If Yalunte were to escape, that would be good, but if he were captured by the Judgement Legion, his situation would be dire.

While retreating, they had heard Dina, the Legion Commander of the Judgement Legion, scold Yalunte as a heretic. If Yalunte fell into the hands of the Judgement Legion, his chances of survival were slim.

Seeing Ziang frequently looking back in concern, Luo’er reassured him, "Don’t worry. As the best sword master on the continent, Mr. Sword Saint has been in the pugilist world for decades. There’s no way he’d fall into their hands."

"I’m not worried about him," Ziang turned around and retorted stubbornly, "If he’s dead, who will teach me swordsmanship?"

"Let’s wait for him at the inn. We will wait two days. If he doesn’t show up, we will go back to Yazhi City and wait for him!" Luo’er said, with a laugh and a sigh.

Ziang glanced back once more, let out a mournful grunt, and stopped speaking.

They left the forest quickly, following the path they had come from until they reached the road. On Luo’er’s suggestion, Ziang wrapped Arya’s Blade in cloth. Then they started racing down the road towards the inn .

By the time they reached the inn, it was already evening. They settled into the inn and returned to the rooms they had previously rested in.

The two girls brought two basins of hot water and began to clean their companions’ wounds and blood stains.

"Boss, ow ow ow!" Luo’er pulled a wooden thorn from Hu Daoke’s face, and Hu Daoke yelled in pain.

"Seriously, you’ve been fighting so long and you haven’t noticed that you have a thorn in your face?" Tangmo wrung out a towel on the side, looking worried.

"I was too focused on shooting, I didn’t notice it on my face." Hu Daoke responded pitifully.

"Here, wipe your sweat, so it doesn’t get into the wound." Luo’er handed him Tangmo’s towel.

"Boss, could you heal me a bit?" After hastily wiping his face, Hu Daoke pleaded.

At his words, Luo’er froze. Hu Daoke didn’t know that Luo’er was no longer able to use magic.

"I’ll do it!" Baiyue walked over with consideration, holding out her magic wand.

"Thank you, Yue’er!" Hu Daoke said gratefully.

"Luo’er, what’s wrong?" Seeing Luo’er’s odd expression, Tangmo handed him a towel, unable to resist asking.

"Nothing." Luo’er gave a small smile, accepting and using the towel.

"Oh, you can’t use magic because you have an injury on your face." Noticing the scrape on Luo’er’s face, Tangmo immediately became worried.

She moved to Luo’er’s side, took out her wand, and cast a healing spell on him. As she did so, she furrowed her brows and said, "How dare they hurt Luo’er’s face. That’s crossing a line!"

"So it wouldn’t be crossing a line if they hit somewhere else?" Luo’er said, laughing and crying at the same time.

"No part of you should be hit, it hurts me wherever you’re injured!" She held Luo’er’s face in her hands and replied earnestly.

Ziang did not join them but instead drew Arya’s Blade, carefully examining the exotic longsword.

The blade of Arya was engraved with different depths of lines. These were differing runes. If a sword on Earth were to be treated this way, it would greatly affect the strength of the blade, but this was the Otherworld. Magic had strengthened the blade, turning the longsword into a true divine weapon. No wonder the Emperor of the Aud Empire had been able to unify the Aud Empire with this sword.

"What a good sword, truly a good sword!" Having examined it, Ziang couldn’t help but praise. He was originally dedicated to the way of the knife, but the appearance of Arya’s Blade started making him consider swords instead.

"Such a fickle fellow." Hu Daoke finished treating his wounds, and seeing Ziang lost in admiration of the sword, couldn’t help but tease him.

"What?"Ziang asked distractedly without turning around.

"Some people were just mourning over their beloved sword, and in a blink of an eye, they moved on to another object of affection," Hu Daoke shook his head and said.

"Out with the old, in with the new, what do you know!" Cheng Ziang retorted, shooting him a disdainful look.

"If you’re so fond of it, just keep it, anyway, just tell Headquarters later that we failed to get Arya’s Blade, and that the mission was a failure!" Hu Daoke came up with a bad suggestion.

"Forget it, do you really take Headquarters for fools? How could they possibly believe your nonsense," Cheng Ziang said with a look of disdain.

Having taken care of everyone’s injuries, it was already completely dark. Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang had exhausted too much energy during the day, so they had fallen asleep early. At bedtime, Cheng Ziang always hugged Arya’s Blade in his arms, it was hard to tell if he was willing to give Arya’s Blade to Headquarters after they arrived.

Perhaps because he was under too much pressure, Luo’er was not sleepy, so he left the room and went into the hallway. As soon as he left the room, he saw Baiyue carrying a lantern, with a book tucked under her arm, gently opening the door of the girls’ room.

Upon seeing Luo’er, Baiyue was startled for a moment, then put her finger to her lips and made a hush gesture, and then she carefully closed the door of the room.

"Can’t sleep?" Luo’er saw her and asked softly.

Baiyue nodded and then took out the book from under her arm and waved it in front of him, saying, "I want to read my father’s diary."

"Would you mind telling me about it?" Luo’er asked with interest.

"Um, okay, okay," Hearing Luo’er’s words, Baiyue paused for a moment, her cheeks flushing uncontrollably. The memory of what happened underwater that day came flooding back, and not just her cheeks, but her whole body began to heat up.

The two of them found a table and two chairs at the end of the corridor. Baiyue put the oil lamp on the table and opened her diary in the dim light.

Baiyue flipped through several pages until she reached somewhere around the middle. She looked at the date which read ’2031’. It seemed that they had already been in the Otherworld for about half a year.

2031, it must be around January

It has been almost half a year since we stayed in the Otherworld. In these six months, we have walked from the eastern end of the continent to the western end.

In December, the United Nations sent people urging us to return to Earth and threatened to cut off our supplies. But how could I leave? How could I ever want to leave?

It seemed that Aniya was pregnant, of course this was not my fault, for we had fallen in love. She has become my wife. Her face radiates a warm smile every day, a happiness that only I can bring her.

But if Aniya is pregnant, I must consider our child. The most important thing now is how to ensure the safe birth of our child. Although stories of Earth people falling in love with Otherworld people exist, none of them seem to have been able to give birth safely.

This seems to be a curse. The children of Earth people and Otherworld people seem cursed by the Grim Reaper, leaving their mother’s body before they even have a chance to see the world, leaving their parents, leaving this world.

I love Aniya deeply, and I am willing to be her husband, but now, what about our child? The Federal Government seems to be quietly launching a plan, a breeding plan for Earthlings and sub-humans. But I can’t possibly hand Aniya over to them, or she will become their lab rat.

After Aniya got pregnant, bigger problems arose. Her body was too weak. Pregnancy was taking a heavy toll on her body. Although I eagerly anticipate our child, I don’t want anything to happen to my wife.

Looking at her frail appearance, I’m completely powerless. What can I do? Do I really have to hand Aniya over to the Federation?

I left the room and went downstairs, wanting to bring some food back for Aniya. At this time, we were probably located in the mainland of Odelanqi. This largest kingdom of the Aud people seemed quite bustling, with many adventurers and travelers downstairs.

I saw Dr. An Liang sitting with the translator. In front of them sat a young couple, listening to the translator relay Dr. An Liang’s words to them.

Both of them were Auds, their facial features were very distinct. Both had golden hair. The man looked to be in his twenties, handsome and dashing, with a long sword tied around his waist. The girl had delicate features, her hood and cloak camouflaging her figure and part of her face. Her face was very pale, a morbid kind of pale. She might be sick.

"Dr. An Liang!" I approached them and kindly greeted them.

"Dr. Anatoli, how is your wife doing?" Dr. An Liang asked with a smile, upon seeing me.

"I’m bringing her some food, she might be hungry." I sidestepped his question instead of answering.

"I see," Dr. An Liang nodded and then looked up at me and said, "Can you wait a moment? There is something I want to discuss with you after I finish with these matters."

"Sure!" As a request from Dr. An Liang, I naturally couldn’t refuse. After all, he had been very helpful to me along the way.
