Chapter 249 - 242: Return to Saint Bawa

Chapter 249: Chapter 242: Return to Saint Bawa

"These people’s guns mostly consist of bolt-action rifles. After firing one shot, they need to reload. There’s no way they could injure me with such a firing rate!" Yalunte explained, laughing.

"And what if they had fully automatic rifles?" Luo’er asked.

"Well, I’d run!" Yalunte shrugged, stating it as a matter of fact.

"Uh!" Luo’er was at a loss for words, not expecting a Sword Saint like Yalunte to be so shameless.

"By the way, your reaction was good today when you decided to draw a gun after losing grip of your sword!" Yalunte said, looking at Ziang.

"That wasn’t a reaction, that was a sword technique!" Ziang sternly responded.

"Sword technique?" Yalunte was quite surprised.

"Yes, an Earth sword technique, aptly named: Sir, Times Have Changed!" Luo’er added.

"Interesting," Yalunte nodded in satisfaction, "So in that case, I could also carry a gun and use this sword technique, right?"

"Uh!" Luo’er was left speechless again. Yalunte, who could very well carry a gun, insisted on carrying a sword, and even proudly self-proclaimed himself as a swordsman.

"So why didn’t you just use a gun when you were fighting with me today?" Yalunte asked.

Ziang gave him a glance, then answered, "The handgun is my last line of defense. It must be a guaranteed hit, so the timing must be right, and also..."

"Also, you just don’t like using guns, do you?" Yalunte interrupted, having already figured out what Ziang was thinking.

"Hm!" Ziang, whose thoughts were figured out, felt a bit grumpy, and responded with a nod.

"That won’t do. You clearly had several chances to draw your gun today. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to defend myself, but you chose not to use it. Compared to me, your sword skills are too green. Without a handgun, you can’t defeat me. Young man, it’s important to have ambition, but you also have to realize your own skill level," Yalunte lectured.

"Speaking of sword techniques, Mr. Sword Saint, could you possibly give him some guidance? We’re also hoping that his skills could be enhanced," Luo’er actively spoke up for Ziang.

"Hm, do you want me to teach you?" Yalunte paused for a moment, then asked Ziang.

Ziang kept his head low without uttering a word. Seeing this, Luo’er tried to make it less awkward, "He’s just a bit shy, but he’s definitely willing!"

"That won’t do," to their surprise, Yalunte refused Luo’er’s request, "If he wants to learn sword techniques from me, he needs to tell me directly. Communicating through a third party won’t work!"

As he said this, he looked at Ziang and said, "Young man, in this regard, you’re way behind your captain. Although he’s older than you, he’s also more mature."

"This guy is already thirty years old!" said Ziang, rolling his eyes and maintaining a straight face.

"Hm!" Yalunte was taken aback. He looked at Luo’er and then quickly figured it out. Luo’er was a half-elf, and despite his youthful appearance, his real age was something only they knew.

"I want to fight you again!" Ziang suddenly spoke after a long silence.

"Huh, again?" Yalunte was taken aback.

"But I can’t beat you, so you have to teach me!" Ziang stated matter-of-factly.

Yalunte looked at him, dumbfounded, briefly unable to put everything together. After a while, he finally caught on, shaking his head and laughing, "I see, you want me to teach you!"

"Fighting a defeated opponent won’t be fun, so you’ll have to make me stronger!" Ziang said facing him.

"Alright, but you’re gonna have to call me master!" Yalunte agreed, smiling brightly.

"No problem. Until I defeat you, I can call you master. But once you lose to me, you have to call me master!" Ziang responded.

"Sure, agreed!" Yalunte nodded, surprisingly accepting his proposal.

"Are these two guys playing hard to get?" Luo’er watched the two and shook his head helplessly. Despite the situation going off-script, at least everything got sorted out in the end.

They were not too far from Saint Bawa so they arrived outside the city within an hour. The battle was still ongoing within the city. One could occasionally hear the sound of guns, but the intensity had decreased significantly.

"We’ll return to our lodgings and wait until we receive news from the headquarters to set off!" Luo’er told the group.

"Wow, are we staying in a hotel?" Yalunte was quite surprised.

"Uh, aren’t we supposed to?" Luo’er paused before responding.

"Do you have money?" Yalunte asked hesitantly.

"Of course, we have operation funds!" Luo’er replied as if it was obvious.

"How much?" asked Yalunte.

"There’s no fixed amount, whatever we need, we get!" Luo’er replied truthfully.

"Damn it," At the sound of his words, Yalunte gritted his teeth in anger, "Those stingy bastards only gave me around thirty gold coins and expect me to steal Arya’s Blade!"

"Eh, what do you mean by thirty gold coins?" Luo’er asked.

"That’s obviously my operational budget!" Yalunte explained.

"So, is there a reward after completing the mission?" Luo’er asked.

"Of course there is!" Yalunte replied.

"How much is it?"

"One hundred and fifty gold coins!" Yalunte answered.

"Well, that does seem a bit little," Luo’er muttered under his breath before consoling him, "But, look at us, we don’t even get any reward after completing our missions and we have to wait for the next mission."

As soon as Luo’er finished speaking, a soft laughter escaped from Baiyue in the team.

"Well, you’re right, but something seems off!" Yalunte admitted, scratching his head in confusion.

Of course, something was off. Yalunte was a mercenary, paid by the headquarter to complete missions and then given a reward; he relied on these rewards to make a living. For the Advance Team, as the direct subordinates of the headquarters, their operational budget was covered by the headquarters. They were also provided for by the headquarters on a regular basis, so naturally, they didn’t need any kind of reward.

"Eh, not to worry. Since Mr. Sword Saint is with us, let’s just use our operational budget!" To ease Yalunte’s concerns, Luo’er casually waved his hand in assurance.

"Hmm, that’s acceptable!" Yalunte agreed, nodding in satisfaction. Since the funding from the headquarters was low and he planned on saving money for his future child, he had been living frugally. He had even camped in the outskirts of Saint Bawa for over a week before the arrival of the Heresy Tribunal Army.

Arriving at the inn, after taking care of the horses, Luo’er booked three triple rooms. Even though there were exactly six of them, two being females, they certainly couldn’t let a male share a room with the girls.

Luo’er was aware that if he saved this amount of money, Cheng Ziang and Hu Daoke would insist that he be the one who shares a room with the girls. Therefore, to avoid further inconvenience, he booked three rooms directly. One room for the three boys, one for the girls, and a separate one for Yalunte.

After the rooms were sorted, Yalunte was overjoyed. He went downstairs and ordered the inn staff to serve them wine. A few glasses of fruit wine in, Yalunte relaxed, jovially chatting with Hu Daoke with his arm around him.

"This guy can’t handle his liquor," Luo’er chuckled helplessly, cradling his chin in his hand.

"Come, apprentice, pour me some wine!" Yalunte slammed his glass onto the table and loudly ordered Cheng Ziang.

"Got it!" Now Yalunte’s apprentice, Cheng Ziang showed a well-behaved demeanor.

"Luo’er, I want to drink wine too!" Tangmo said chewing on a bread roll, looking at Luo’er.

"Children shouldn’t drink!" Luo’er declined.

"We’re adults now!" Tangmo retorted, hugging Baiyue’s shoulders.

"We still have a mission at hand! As soon as we get the message, we’ll have to leave!" Luo’er tried to discourage him.

Looking displeased, Tangmo puffed his cheeks and stared at Luo’er with a pouting mouth.

"Come, little miss, don’t mind him, have a drink!" Just then, a middle-aged man from the next table turned around, offering a cup of wine.

He was an adventurer, a badge of the Adventurer’s Guild could be seen on his chest. Judging by his looks, he seemed to be from the southern region of the Aud. Although his face was covered with a beard, his eyes were dark under the circles, giving off an over-indulgent and dissipated impression.

He was not alone, he came with a team. They occupied two entire tables. All of them were armed to some extent, with melee weapons, as well as bolt-action rifles from Earth.

As for Luo’er’s group, they were only here for a meal and hence, were without weapons. This gave the man the opportunity to make his move.

"I won’t drink, our captain won’t allow me to!" Faced with a stranger, Tangmo was very restrained.

"Oh, come on, don’t listen to your captain, drink up!" The man said, waving a wine glass in his hand, even moving it slowly towards her chest.

"Ah!" The red wine splashed onto Tangmo’s thigh. She squealed, looking pitifully at Luo’er.

"What’s the matter, little girl? Come here, let me take a look!" Yalunte had an arm around Hu Daoke’s shoulder and barely opened his eyes to look at Tangmo and asked.

Tangmo glanced at Luo’er uncertainly, Luo’er didn’t say a word, but nodded, indicating for her to go to Yalunte’s side. He knew Yalunte wanted to help her. After all, this guy was a Sword Saint, and it was much safer with him.

Receiving Luo’er’s signal, Tangmo, pulling Baiyue along with her, jogged over to Yalunte.

"Why is there wine on your clothes," he frowned and said, "Little girls shouldn’t drink wine!"

"He wanted me to drink!" Tangmo pointed at the man pitifully.

"Hey there, giving a little girl alcohol is not a gentlemanly act!" Yalunte seemed a bit drunk, and his face was lit with a faint smile.

"Mind your own business!" Seeing his potential conquest slip away, the man started to lose his patience.
