Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 178 - 174: Airborne Battleship
Chapter 178: Chapter 174: Airborne Battleship
Finally getting the team organized, the four of them made their way east out of the swamp and, along the riverside, found a rope-way to arrive at the other side of the river.
Just starting out on this road from Galan to Obus, everyone felt a bit uneasy. After all, they had just created major news in Masya during the winter, leading to the collapse of the frontline legion, and nearly causing the fall of Obus.
If they encountered remnants of the frontline legion here, who knew what might happen. And what’s more important, was that Princess Melia had already left Galan to assemble an army, and there was no one in the whole of Galan City who could help them.
Thinking of this, the group dared not linger too long. They had to follow the road to Obus, then head to the banks of the Lining River, and proceed east along the river, eventually reaching a village by the river. This place can be regarded as a vital transport hub since it’s an obligatory path from Masya to the Lining River Canyon. A Blaiqi person had opened an inn here which was their designated meeting spot. The innkeeper was subordinate to Durman’s consortium, so this place can be considered a branch post for the headquarters.
The Advance Team of four people was fortunate enough to find the road like this, but Luo’er was not so lucky. After landing, he faced an seemingly endless forest. Since leaving the grassland where they had rested, they had walked east for almost ten days before they finally left the forest.
If it weren’t for the rifle in his hand helping him catch a few preys, he, along with mother and daughter Yila, might have starved to death in this boundless forest.
With so much mountainous terrain in Masya, Luo’er had a difficult time crossing over a mountain. He had no idea where he was with the only certainty being the direction. He could only rely on his luck to see if he could find a river. If he found a river, he would have a chance to determine his position.
The Ebia River in Masya flows southeast into the sea from the northwest, dividing Masya into two sections. Luo’er remembers that when the airship crashed, they hadn’t yet crossed the Ebia River, which meant he could reach the Ebia River if he just kept going east. And then if he followed the river upstream, he should be able to reach Obus.
Once he reached Obus, the mother and daughter, Yila, could find a way back to Ronisca. This way, Luo’er wouldn’t have to worry about them, and could focus on reuniting with his team.
Leaving the forest didn’t make Luo’er feel any more at ease. After all, the territory south of Obus belonged to rebels, and compared to the royal army, these guys were far more dishonorable. It wouldn’t be surprising if they committed heinous crimes like robbery and murder, therefore, caution was needed.
After days of travel, especially through the dense primeval forest, the clothes of the mother and daughter were in tatters, they looked like beggars. But Lo’er’s clothes were not much affected. After all, his clothes were specifically made for carrying out missions and moving around in such forests was a breeze for him. Not to mention the Defense Runes engraved on his clothes which enhanced the strength of his garment to a certain extent.
Luo’er remembers, before leaving, Wang Xu repeatedly stated that the new uniforms for the Advance Team could withstand the close-range shots from small-caliber pistols. But as it turned out, he ended up getting shot by a rifle bullet instead of a pistol bullet.
He checked the wound on his chest - thanks to the Resurrection Magic and medicinal treatment, his wound had basically healed. Fortunately, it didn’t catch tetanus, but the bullet was still lodged inside his body.
Moreover, the use of magic while injured had severely damaged Luo’er’s body’s channels. Now he could barely even use level one magic, and whenever he recited incantations to gather magic power, his chest would hurt like it was being pierced with needles.
Luo’er didn’t know if his illness could be treated - if not, he might have to bid goodbye to magic for good. This was undoubtedly a heavy blow to him.
"Mama, I’m hungry!"
While Luo’er was walking in front and lost in thought, he suddenly heard Sara’s voice from behind. Turning around, he found that Sara, leaning against her mother’s back, was looking at him pitifully.
"Mister Luo’er, could we possibly take a little break?" Out of concern for her daughter, Yila couldn’t resist asking.
Looking at the sky, Luo’er noticed it wasn’t noon yet and they still had plenty of time. But he needed to meet up with the Advance Team quickly, preventing them from presuming him to be dead and continuing with the mission as that would create bigger problems.
But seeing Sara’s pitiful appearance, Luo’er felt somewhat unwilling to continue without a break, so he sighed softly and turned around to say, "Let’s make a fire, rest a bit, and then leave!"
Their current location was right on the borderline of the grassland and the primeval forest. Luo’er found a place where the grass was not very high, picked up a few pieces of dry wood from the forest, and started a bonfire.
Then, he took out a piece of smoked hind leg meat from his backpack, cut off a portion, and started roasting it on the fire. He had hunted this piece of meat yesterday. It took him a complete night to smoke it well enough to carry, otherwise, by now, the leg meat would have already gone bad.
Seeing Sara eagerly watching the roasting meat, Luo’er sighed again inwardly. If he were journeying alone, he would definitely travel much faster than he does by bringing along this mother and daughter. But to leave these two in the primeval forest to make better travel time would not be his style. Although when dealing with enemies, Luo’er might be a cold-blooded and ruthless man; it doesn’t mean he’s cold-blooded in his daily life.
In the words of the other members of the Advance Team, Luo’er was a gentle and warm-hearted person in daily life, treating friends absolutely without fault. But once it came to missions and fighting, his reaction was colder than anyone else’s.
"Eat up!" Luo’er finished roasting the meat, cut off a piece after it had cooled down, and passed it to Sara. Sara accepted the roasted meat with great joy and began to gobble it up. Although it was not seasoned with salt, she still found it delicious.
"I’m really sorry for making you go through all this trouble, Lord Luo’er," Yila said uneasily from the side. She could see that Luo’er could have left them in the forest and gone off on his own considering his abilities, but he chose to take them with him instead.
Although they had helped him while he was injured and unconscious, they could not forget that it was Luo’er who had saved them from the crashing airboat. That is to say, after Luo’er fully recovered from his injuries, he owed them nothing. But Luo’er was willing to take them along, and for this, Yila was extremely grateful.
"It’s all right, I couldn’t just leave you two behind." Luo’er waved his hand dismissively. Since he had promised Tangmo to save Yila and her daughter, he should take responsibility and help them return to Ronisca.
"Sara, this child... she..." Yila looked at Sara who was devouring the meat with abandon, seeming to want to say something but holding back. She was worried that Sara’s wilfulness would anger Luo’er, although she had never seen Luo’er get angry in the time they had spent together.
"Mom, there’s an airship in the sky!" Sara said loudly, pointing at the sky while gnawing on the meat.
"Airship?" Luo’er and Yila were stunned, and looking at where she was pointing, they finally realized that there was a gigantic airship in the sky that had appeared at some point.
It was much larger than the Valan airboat, and what was strange was that this airship was flying very low, merely a few hundred meters from ground level. It was also moving quite slowly, as though it was searching for something.
"That’s not an airboat," Yila said, her face changing dramatically as she stared at the airship in the sky, "That’s an airship, belonging to the air force!"
"Airship?" After hearing her words, Luo’er raised his head to take a closer look. According to its exterior features and the information provided by the Headquarters, he roughly identified the model of this airship.
"High-peak class airship..." Luo’er murmured based on the exterior features of the airship, managing to identify its model.
The High-peak class airship was the third generation of Ronisca’s air force, and also their Main Battle Airship. The High-peak class was equipped with eight mature third-generation anti-gravity engines. The first three were propelled by pure propellers, the middle three were mainly propelled by propellers supplemented by a jet engine. The final two utilized complete jet propulsion and were experimentally equipped with a flight deck, converting them into aircraft carriers.
Of course, whether it was propeller propulsion or jet propulsion, the physical principles were totally different from those on Earth. These were propulsion engines developed by the High-peak people, inspired by the propulsion engines on Earth, which could adapt to the environment of Otherworld.
Although Luo’er had heard that the High-peak people’s air force was formidable, he was still left in awe upon seeing it for the first time. An fully armed airborne battleship suspended above his head was a scene that he had never seen on Earth.
"An airship, it’s an air force airship, we’re saved!" Seeing the airship hovering overhead, Yila finally yelled with excitement. Tears of emotion began to flow.
"Will they save us?" Luo’er couldn’t help but ask.
Yes, definitely," Yila said excitedly, "As long as they hear our cry for help, they will definitely save us. Sara’s father, he is the leader of the air force."
"What did you say?" Luo’er was stunned, his mind blowing up. He hadn’t expected that Yila’s husband was the leader of Ronisca’s air force; according to Earth terms, that would be the Air Force Commander- and that was a big deal. No wonder the mother and daughter duo were dressed so luxuriously.
He hadn’t expected that Tangmo’s first intelligence gathering mission would reel in such a big fish. This easily explained why Tangmo was able to obtain so much information from Yila. It turned out that she was not only the mistress of the tavern but also the wife of the Air Force Commander of Ronisca.
But thinking about it, Luo’er was reminded of another issue. Should he help them attract the attention of the airship to facilitate their safe departure? Of course, he definitely could not board the airship himself.
He was carrying a secret mission to Helros from the headquarters. If the high-ranking officials of High-peaks discovered his jet-black hair, they might just capture him and hand him over to Wang Xu.
