Chapter 1639: Chapter 1632: After All, She’s a Girl
"Why are you retreating? Why do you keep backing away? If you truly have a clear conscience, why don’t you dare look into my eyes?"
Unexpectedly, Hun Jiansi grew more intense, took a step forward, wiped her tears, and rebutted with righteous indignation.
"I..." Cheng Ziang, struck right at the heart of his thoughts, lowered his head in shame, completely avoiding her gaze.
"In Lingyun Government, I could have killed you, but I didn’t. The others in the Heterogeneous Hall wanted to kill you, but I stopped them..."
"Later, when you clashed with the Wuting Clan soldiers, you got separated from your companions. It was I who took the initiative to save you, lying unconscious on that forest path. I went with you to rescue the others. We ate together, we slept together... Why do you remember none of this?"
"Since you’ve already remembered everything, since you’ve already recognized who I am, then why do you only recall the bad things I’ve done to you, while completely forgetting the good? Is that how you see me in your heart?"
Hun Jiansi poured her heart out loudly, taking a step forward with every word she spoke. Correspondingly, Cheng Ziang retreated with every step.
Unexpectedly, the dominating Cheng Ziang was being forced to retreat repeatedly by this petite, small-framed girl before him, completely unable to defend himself.
"I’m Hun Jiansi of the Nine Streams. There is no one in this world I cannot approach. If I wanted to harm you all, you’d already be dead. Why didn’t I do it? Because of you! Because of you!"
Hun Jiansi vented loudly, then squatted down where she stood, covering her head as she cried her heart out. It was as though she was utterly aggrieved, or perhaps it was suppression of emotions long pent up, finally being released at this moment.
Cheng Ziang stared down at her, dumbfounded, extending his hand but not knowing what to do, utterly at a loss.
Thinking carefully, Hun Jiansi’s words seemed to hold water. Without considering the Demigods, Hun Jiansi indeed could, unnoticed, approach every member of the Advance Team and assassinate them one by one—but she hadn’t done so.
Although the Advance Team had two Demigods, Liseya theoretically only cared about self-preservation. As long as she wasn’t in trouble, she would never act to save others.
As for Fulajie’er, it was because of Luo’er. Although she cared about everyone and possessed vast supernatural powers, she had little killing intent. If she were to be tasked with murder, she’d hesitate for a long while.
Thus, when considering the Advance Team’s two Demigods, if Hun Jiansi really wanted to do something, like poisoning, even Demigods wouldn’t be able to stop her.
Thinking this, Cheng Ziang finally realized the terror of the Fog Concealment Skill, feeling a cold shiver down his spine. This ability allowed Hun Jiansi to penetrate any space, approach anyone she wanted.
But she just didn’t do it; these speculations only existed in imagination.
Cheng Ziang was more inclined to interpret it as Hun Jiansi being a member of the Wen Family, with the Wen Family choosing not to oppose the Advance Team, thereby not issuing orders for her to act.
As for another conjecture, Cheng Ziang really didn’t dare to speculate further.
Could it be that this incredibly powerful little scout before him had truly fallen for him? If that were the case, then what could be the reason?
In a split second, Cheng Ziang recalled their encounters and interactions, while still unable to remember everything clearly. Yet, he captured bits and pieces of it, and combined with Hun Jiansi’s recent words, he finally understood her intentions.
It was a sense of presence—yes, that’s it, a sense of presence!
Cheng Ziang thought to himself.
Hun Jiansi’s Fog Concealment Skill seemed to be a passive ability. In other words, even if she intentionally emphasized her existence, the people around her would gradually forget about her, let alone mention her name.
But Cheng Ziang appeared to be the first person who remembered her and retained her name. Maybe it was for this reason that Hun Jiansi showed repeated mercy to him and the Advance Team.
Having figured out the issue, Cheng Ziang felt more assured. He then took a deep breath, walked slowly over to Hun Jiansi, hesitated for a long time, and finally spoke: "If my attitude offended you, then I apologize. You’re right, you haven’t harmed us. I certainly have no reason to question you like that."
"Are you sincere?"
Upon hearing his words, Hun Jiansi immediately stopped crying. She raised her tearful eyes and stared at him intently.
She seemed to be waiting for Cheng Ziang to make his stance clear, so her abrupt cessation of crying felt a bit jarring. Her words carried almost no trace of a sobbing tone, momentarily making Cheng Ziang wonder if she was just feigning her tears.
"I’m sincere," Cheng Ziang nodded lightly, then frowned slightly before adding, "But you stole something from me. I still remember that."
"I just wanted to test you, and I gave it back later, didn’t I?" Hun Jiansi averted her gaze and responded unconvincingly.
"Your people tried to kill us." Cheng Ziang pressed further.
"That wasn’t our intention. Those two idiots misunderstood our orders." Hun Jiansi explained.
"Then why are you following us?" Cheng Ziang asked seriously.
"Can’t I follow you?" Hun Jiansi tilted her head slightly, blinking her eyes innocently as she asked.
Although her eyelashes still glistened with lingering tear droplets, she had fully recovered her playful demeanor, unlike her earlier sadness.
"I don’t like people tracking us. Although you seem to mean no harm..." Cheng Ziang avoided her eyes and turned his head away as he spoke.
"We won’t harm you, especially not you..." Hun Jiansi said softly, suddenly lowering her head and speaking even more quietly.
"You’re working for the Wen Family, aren’t you?" Cheng Ziang, seemingly unaware of her tone, pursued the topic.
"Who told you we’re working for the Wen Family?" To Cheng Ziang’s surprise, Hun Jiansi appeared unafraid of this interrogation, instead raising her eyebrows to retort.
"No comment!" Cheng Ziang shut his mouth.
"Even if you don’t tell me, I know—it was Huayu Ting, wasn’t it? That person, both literate and skilled in martial arts, has wandered the jianghu for years. It’s easy for him to uncover our background." Hun Jiansi replied.
"So, Huayu Ting’s words are true, then?" Cheng Ziang, deciding not to hide anything anymore, simply got straight to the point.
"Hmm, not entirely wrong, but not completely right either." Hun Jiansi tilted her chin upward, pondered for a moment, and gazed at him as she spoke.
"Can’t you give me a straight answer..." Cheng Ziang, flustered by her charmingly coquettish demeanor, turned his head away and sighed.
"Because I’m a girl, you think I’m just pretending, huh?" Hun Jiansi’s expression darkened, her face full of grievance as she confronted him.
"I never said that, but can you speak straightforwardly? Stop inching closer." Cheng Ziang said, retreating two steps to widen the distance, then sighed in relief as though he’d found space to breathe.
"You’re so afraid of me—is it because there’s already a girl you like?" Hun Jiansi asked with a calm face.
"Don’t change the subject; we’re not talking about this!" Cheng Ziang replied.
"But I insist we talk about it. You can ask me questions—why can’t I ask you? It’s fair; you said it yourself." Hun Jiansi argued assertively.
"I don’t have a girl I like..."
Cheng Ziang lied without a hint of shame—though the ability to lie like this was one of his lesser talents.
"Then those girls around you..." Hun Jiansi said suspiciously.
"They’re my partners. Do you even know what partners are?" Cheng Ziang sighed.
"So they’re not lovers?" Hun Jiansi said, her expression lighting up once again.
"If you’re going to ask such questions, I’m leaving. I don’t want to waste time on trivialities." Cheng Ziang turned to leave.
"Wait, wait, wait, okay, fine, I won’t ask anymore! Why are you getting so pissed off?" Hun Jiansi pouted, sounding a little aggrieved.
"Now can we talk seriously?" Cheng Ziang shot her a glance and asked.
"Go ahead." Hun Jiansi fluttered her eyes.
"You..." Cheng Ziang started, but was immediately cut off by Hun Jiansi.
"You’re so handsome!"
