Chapter 1578: Chapter 1571: The Illegitimate Child
"A local from Hua State, and able to communicate in the Demon Clan language without any barriers, could it be that in Kyushu there are Demon Clan individuals with equal status?" Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but murmur to himself.
"You can speak the Demon Clan language?" Ah Si stared at Cheng Ziang, asking curiously.
"Is it that strange? We came from the west, and the first place we landed was West Outer Heaven," Cheng Ziang shrugged his shoulders, making no effort to hide their experiences in West Outer Heaven.
"So that’s why you sympathize with the Demon Clan?" Ah Si asked.
"What do you mean by sympathize? They are the same as us," Cheng Ziang said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"I beg to differ," Ah Si shook her head and said.
"As I have said before," Cheng Ziang sighed, "I’ve never expected you all to agree with this view, after all, for you, it’s too... progressive..."
"Is that a kind of universal love?" Ah Si inquired.
"It’s a universal value," Cheng Ziang replied.
Cheng Ziang no longer paid her any mind and continued to question Ah Yang, trying to get valuable clues from him: "Do you know exactly where your home is?"
"I don’t know, I sneaked out at night, it was pitch dark around, and I couldn’t see clearly..." Ah Yang said, frowning and speaking plaintively.
"Why did you sneak out? Children shouldn’t go out on their own at night," Cheng Ziang admonished with emphasis.
"I... I missed my dad... He hasn’t come to see me for a very long time, I..." As Ah Yang spoke, his eyes reddened, and he looked as though he was about to cry again.
"All right, all right, I’ll help you find your dad. Just try not to cry for now," Cheng Ziang quickly said, waving his hand.
"Demon Clan individuals, and also from a normal family..." Cheng Ziang muttered, turning his head to ask Ah Si, "Are there families of the... more normal Demon Clan individuals around here?"
"Do you think that’s possible?" Ah Si shrugged her shoulders and asked him pointedly.
"Then that’s strange... Could it be that I’m mistaken?" Cheng Ziang muttered, narrowing his eyes.
"Could it be the love child of someone from a prominent family?" Ah Si thought for a moment, then casually suggested.
"Love child?" Cheng Ziang paused for a moment.
"Don’t you know?" Ah Si said, "Women from the Demon Clan are quite popular in Kyushu. The young masters of prominent families often fancy keeping these Demon Clan women as concubines. Sometimes they carelessly let these women bear their children. Most of the time, the outcome for these children is not very good, but there are exceptions..."
"For instance?"
"Like... some people genuinely fall in love and cherish their offspring, which are, after all, their own flesh and blood," Ah Si said, blinking.
"How do you know about such things?" Cheng Ziang instinctively frowned with discomfort as he asked.
"In the world of wandering individuals, such gossip is as common as hair on an ox, nothing new," Ah Si said with a shrug.
"You’re just a hunter’s daughter, yet you know about the affairs of the wandering world?" Cheng Ziang asked, squinting at her.
"Wherever there are people, there’s the wandering world," Ah Si said nonchalantly.
"The love child of a prominent family?" Cheng Ziang turned his head and stared at Ah Yang, sinking into deep thought.
Perhaps even Cheng Ziang himself hadn’t noticed that his conversation with Ah Si was so smooth and had become so natural as though they were not strangers who had just met but rather old friends who had known each other for many years.
Meanwhile, thanks to Fulajie’er’s efforts, the carriage eventually came to a stop after traveling a few dozen kilometers. Apart from Cheng Ziang, everyone else on the carriage was safe and sound.
Fulajie’er took quite a while to wake everyone up. By this time, it had already reached the afternoon.
"Fula, is everyone all right?" Luo’er asked, holding his head with concern.
"Uh, everyone is fine, just... Cheng Ziang that poor sod fell off the carriage..." Fulajie’er hesitantly said.
"Fell off? Where is he?" Luo’er froze for a second, then immediately asked with concern.
"He probably fell near the scene," Fulajie’er replied.
"What exactly happened?" Tangmo, too clutching his head, asked in confusion.
"After you were knocked out, those people took you and said they were going to Rainbow Government. But halfway there, we encountered the Nine Thousand Battalion of the Wuting Clan and were chased off. The cavalry originally intended to take us away, but they accidentally angered that formidable ancestor... " Fulajie’er said, still unavoidably frightened.
"And then what?" Luo’er pressed on.
"After that, Liseya killed all the cavalry, but it also spooked the horses pulling the cart, so they bolted with the carriage. While the carriage was running wild, Cheng Ziang fell off," Fulajie’er explained.
"Then why didn’t you stop it?" Luo’er complained.
"I, I couldn’t stop it..." Fulajie’er said aggrievedly.
"It’s okay, don’t worry," Tangmo waved his hand to comfort, "Ziang has Liseya for protection, nothing should happen to him. Let’s rest here for now, and wait for him to meet with us tomorrow."
"Mm, that’s the only option now." Luo’er nodded, his breath somewhat relieved.
Tangmo pushed the car door open. Feng, Baiyue, and Hu Daoke were sitting back to back, clearly still not over the shock. Seeing Tangmo appear, Hu Daoke anxiously said, "Sister Moumou, Old Cheng is gone."
"That unfortunate fellow fell behind. We’ll rest here for the night and wait for him to rejoin us tomorrow," Tangmo said.
"Then I’ll go find him!" Upon hearing Tangmo’s words, Feng said anxiously.
"No need, he has Liseya as his guard; he’s probably fine. You’ve all just recovered, rest for the night first," Tangmo waved his hand and said.
"Oh my, what a day. People keep coming in waves, all targeting us," Hu Daoke lamented woefully.
"Stop complaining. You and Feng go find a place to make a campfire. It’ll be our temporary camp; it’s getting dark soon," Tangmo instructed.
"Right away." Hu Daoke nodded, patted Feng on the shoulder, and they both jumped down from the carriage to look for dry wood to start a fire.
"It must be two groups, one from Heterogeneous Hall and the other from the Wuting Clan," Baiyue pondered for a long while before sharing her conjecture with Tangmo.
"I think so too," Tangmo nodded, but couldn’t help feeling puzzled, "But I really wonder, why do they all want us?"
"It must be because of the Nascent Soul. After all, it is a demigod, the strongest being in the Magic World..." Baiyue reasoned.
"If that’s the case, I regret stirring up this situation in the first place," Tangmo said, pressing a hand against his forehead.
"It’s not exactly as you say," Baiyue waved her hand and said, "The same words still apply; no matter if we show off or not, troubles in Kyushu won’t be reduced."
"Truly a place where crouching tigers and hidden dragons lie, incomparable to the vast wastelands of West Outer Heaven," Tangmo sighed deeply.
"Yet, no matter what, as long as we can thoroughly resolve the warfare in West Outer Heaven, our safety will have some assurance, and we can calmly wait for headquarters to take us home," Baiyue was rather optimistic.
"It actually doesn’t matter. After all, the Advance Team is often in peril and has become accustomed to it," Tangmo shrugged nonchalantly.
"I’m going to inspect the surroundings to ensure there are no more dangers nearby," Baiyue said as she jumped off the carriage and walked towards Hu Daoke and the others, treading on the thick fallen leaves.
"Xiao Fula, make sure you keep watch; we don’t want any more trouble," Tangmo instructed into the air as he watched Baiyue leave.
"I don’t need you to teach me," Fulajie’er responded unwillingly.
"Everyone’s in bad shape right now; you need to be more vigilant, and make sure no one else comes causing trouble," Tangmo continued.
"If they still come after us, then I will kill them," Fulajie’er said angrily.
"If you do that, I’ll be scolded to death by Luo’er," Tangmo said with a bitter smile.
"I’ve always felt that Luo’er’s rules are too rigid. Talking about maintaining my conscience. I’ve seen too much life and death, would I care about those people’s lives?" Fulajie’er couldn’t help but complain.
"You can’t say that," Tangmo spoke gravely, "after all, we haven’t reached the point of desperate straits; it’s not necessary to abandon our principles."
"Are you lecturing me on what to do?" Fulajie’er paused for quite a while before suddenly voicing her irritation.
"What else?" Tangmo shrugged, saying as a matter of course.
