Chapter 1549: Chapter 1542: The Gift from the Wuyun Sect
"I take care of them from the bottom of my heart, not expecting anything in return," Luo’er explained.
"But they won’t see it that way, and you can’t control their thoughts, can you?" Fulajie’er asked, tilting her head.
"I always feel that the journey would be the same with or without me; they have all grown up and don’t need to rely on me," Luo’er said, lowering his head.
"Luo’er," Fulajie’er smiled, squinting her eyes while looking at him, and calmly asked, "Let me ask you, if I now were without a soul, would I still be me? I’d just be a mass of meaningless magic components, right?"
"You can’t put it like that..." Luo’er said, hanging his head.
"It’s that simple," Fulajie’er said earnestly, "You are where the soul of the Advance Team lies. Where you are, the Advance Team is there. If you leave, their cohesion dissipates. You wouldn’t want that, right? Staying peacefully in West Outer Heaven while watching a group of people you care about become a disorderly crowd, venturing into dangerous places like Kyushu."
"So, I’m the spiritual leader?" Luo’er sighed and asked.
"No, you’re the political commissar," Fulajie’er replied.
"Who taught you that term?" Luo’er showed a bitter smile.
"So, you see," Fulajie’er didn’t directly answer his question, but instead, wrapped herself around him, and earnestly said, "Leave the responsibility of the captain to Cheng Ziang, that guy. He’s still trustworthy, although a bit indecisive, but after all, there are others to help, right? Even if worse comes to worst, there’s still the bad woman; although I don’t like her, I have to admit she can be really impressive sometimes."
"When did you become so eloquent?" Luo’er asked, looking at her.
"What do you mean? I’ve lived for more than thirty years after all. I just look like a little girl," Fulajie’er pouted her lips and said, "And let’s not forget, my sister is the famed Nightingale."
The people sent by the Wuyun Sect also did their duty well. Saying they would escort the Advance Team for a bit, they ended up traveling with them for three whole days. These riders brought their own provisions, camping and resting together with the Advance Team, only leaving on the third day.
Before parting, the leading disciple of the Wuyun Sect came before Cheng Ziang, presented a waist token with both hands, and said with a bowed head respectfully, "Manor Lord, this is the token of the Wuyun Sect. With this token, should the Manor Lord encounter any troubles within Fengyu’s territory, you may use the name of the Wuyun Sect, and we will take full responsibility for dealing with these matters."
"We cannot bear such a great favor," Cheng Ziang instinctively declined.
"This is the Sect Master’s wish; we are simply following orders. Please do not trouble the Manor Lord," the disciple said.
"Then I am obliged," Cheng Ziang said and received the token with both hands.
"There is still about a thirty-day journey to Kyushu; by the Sect Master’s order, I specifically present you with a detailed map. With this map to guide you, you can avoid many unnecessary troubles," the disciple continued and then offered a piece of silk.
"I’ve only had a brief encounter with your Sect Master Dongliang; by what merits do I deserve such a great favor?" Cheng Ziang felt somewhat overwhelmed by the honor.
"It is a gesture from the Sect Master; please accept it with a smile," the disciple replied.
"Then please convey my thanks to your Sect Master," Cheng Ziang nodded and took the silk.
"Then, we take our leave. Should you return to Fengyu one day, please be sure to visit the Wuyun Sect, so we can extend the hospitality of the Landlord," after Cheng Ziang received the silk, the disciple raised his head and bowed to the four of them.
"Farewell, big brother!" Hu Daoke said, also giving a fist salute in return, with the others following suit.
With those words, the disciple mounted his horse, bowed again, and then led the riders back the way they came.
"Wow, the Wuyun Sect is really something," Hu Daoke remarked as he watched their retreating figures, feeling genuinely touched, "We were concerned about their identity, but now it seems somewhat embarrassing to think about it."
Cheng Ziang lowered his head to open the silk, revealing a map meticulously drawn in great detail. Not only were roads and towns marked, but it also included the various powers within Fengyu’s territory.
A red line was drawn on the silk to indicate their path, and likewise with red marks beside it, reminding them of what to be aware of on this route to avoid troubles.
Baiyue curiously leaned over to look, and Cheng Ziang smiled and said to her, "What did I say? A Cultivation sect possessing such a detailed map. If you tell me it’s just a Cultivation sect, I hardly believe it."
"The Wuyun Sect has clearly carried out a detailed survey of the human geography within Fengyu’s domain. This map, even if not used as a reference, serves as an excellent material to understand the local culture and customs of Fengyu," Baiyue said seriously.
"Then take it, it’s only effective in your hands anyway," said Cheng Ziang as he handed the map to Baiyue.
"Thank you," Baiyue nodded gratefully and hurriedly started examining the map.
"They said that if we run into trouble in Fengyu, we can mention the Wuyun Sect’s name anytime to shift the trouble onto them," Cheng Ziang continued.
"That means," Baiyue looked up at him and said, "the Wuyun Sect isn’t some insignificant sect; they at least have a say in Fengyu."
"This further proves the likelihood that the Wuyun Sect is indeed some sort of intelligence agency," Cheng Ziang nodded and said.
"So here comes the question," Hu Daoke joined them, scratching his head, "what exactly is our relationship with the Wuyun Sect?"
"We’re barely friends, I guess. At the very least, we’ll have a place to stay when we get back to Fengyu and won’t have to sleep in the streets," Cheng Ziang shrugged and said.
"Be friends with them?" Hu Daoke asked, puzzled.
"The principle of our Advance Team is to make more friends and less trouble, to have a lot of friends and few enemies," Cheng Ziang shrugged again.
"Since when did we have this principle?" Hu Daoke asked, utterly lost.
"It’s been like this since Luo’er established the Advance Team, and now that I’m the leading figure, it’s my job to emphasize it," Cheng Ziang said.
"Ah, are you trying to seize power then?" Hu Daoke asked in shock.
"What nonsense are you talking about? We’re all brothers and sisters, forget this seizing power nonsense," Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes and glared at him, "Luo’er is still the Captain, I just handle most of the internal affairs, that’s all."
"If it’s not seizing power, what do you call it?" Hu Daoke asked, not understanding.
"Luo’er is now basically the political commissar, and Cheng Ziang is the commander," Baiyue said while putting away the map.
"Oh, I see, that’s what’s going on," Hu Daoke nodded and said.
"So, what do you think? Is it feasible?" Cheng Ziang didn’t bother with Hu Daoke anymore and turned to ask Baiyue.
"It’s indeed feasible, but I have a premonition," Baiyue said.
"A premonition?"
"Yeah, I have this feeling that we are being pushed by Dongliang Yu toward Kyushu," Baiyue replied.
"No, it’s us who initiated the idea of going to Kyushu, they’re just helping us," Cheng Ziang said.
"But they seem a bit too eager, don’t they," Baiyue looked at him and said, "We don’t know what we’ll face on the road, so we’re cautious and slow. With this map, we can drive straight through and reach Kyushu within a month. Don’t you think it feels a bit like ’the Emperor isn’t in a hurry but the eunuch is’?"
"Now that you mention it, there does seem to be a hint of that," Cheng Ziang nodded in agreement.
"So what should we do, follow their plan?" Hu Daoke interjected.
"What else can we do? Go ask Luo’er, he’s still the actual Captain in practice," Baiyue suggested.
"No need to ask, I’ll tell you his attitude directly," Cheng Ziang waved his hand, "he’ll definitely agree to follow the map’s plan. Don’t you guys know Luo’er? What he fears the most is causing trouble and putting us in danger. If we can take shortcuts to complete the mission quickly, he won’t even think twice before agreeing."
"Whoa, isn’t that overstepping?" Hu Daoke exclaimed.
"Don’t misuse a new word you’ve learned, so uncultured," Cheng Ziang glared at him and said.
