Chapter 1231: Chapter 1224: Dongsheng Empire
"Calm down, do you recognize him?" Luo’er asked curiously.
"You, your race was supposed to be extinct, weren’t you? Hundreds of years ago, when the eastern troops invaded, your kind should have been wiped out," the man pointed at Taran, trembling all over, obviously more terrified than surprised, "You aren’t here for revenge, are you? I’m sorry, we wanted to save you, but by the time we arrived, your city was already occupied by the eastern troops..."
"We haven’t gone extinct," Baiyue straightened her rabbit ears and said expressionlessly, "Our people hid in the Western Continent, and we’ve settled there."
"You fled to the Western Continent..." The man was overwhelmed by the massive information for a moment.
"Let me introduce ourselves briefly. We are travelers from the Western Continent, my name is Luo’er, and all these are my companions. How may I address you?" Luo’er asked politely.
"My name is Danggui," the man answered.
"Danggui?" Upon hearing this name, everyone was taken aback.
"What’s the matter?" Danggui asked uneasily.
"Oh, nothing, nothing. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Danggui, this is your weapon, right? Here you go." As he spoke, Luo’er handed the weapon back to him.
The reason everyone was surprised was that the name, when pronounced, sounded like Danggui, but they did not really understand the specific meaning of this name.
"Thank you." Danggui took the weapon and secured it at his waist.
"I just heard you mention something about eastern troops invading. What do you mean?" Luo’er continued to ask.
"Did I just speak?" Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, Danggui immediately covered his mouth nervously.
"There’s no need to hide anything; we are not your enemies," Luo’er reassured, waving his hand.
"If you are travelers from the Western Continent, you should leave as soon as possible, because..." Danggui was cut off mid-sentence as his voice suddenly stopped.
It was because he saw a figure that filled him with immense fear, Feng. Her silhouette with the knife, her back towards him, was like the incarnation of the Grim Reaper, and that head of jet-black shoulder-length hair seemed to him the epitome of despair.
"East, people from the East!" Danggui screamed, agitatedly drawing his knife and pointing it at Feng, who was not far away.
His hostile gesture put everyone on alert. Tangmo pulled Luo’er back while the others also raised their weapons, aiming them at Danggui.
"Don’t do anything rash, we truly mean no harm," Luo’er attempted to mediate.
"You are liars, all of you liars," Danggui said feverishly, "You, you all are from the East, right? You want to trick me into betraying Abisien, but you won’t succeed, not even if I die will I fulfill your wishes."
"We are not from the East; we’ve told you, we come from the Western Continent, we are travelers from a foreign land, we have no reason to harm you," Luo’er persisted.
"Then how about her, how does she explain it, why is she from the East?" Danggui pointed at Feng, shouting loudly.
"She’s also from the Western Continent, what’s the problem with that?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"Liar, liar, it’s impossible, her looks, her hair, she is clearly from the East!" Danggui declared loudly.
Listening to his agitated words, Luo’er suddenly remembered the reaction of the Sub-beast Race when they first saw Feng; it seemed as if the Sub-beast Race, or rather, the Demon Clan, had an inherent hostility towards Feng.
However, through his conversation with Danggui, Luo’er had roughly figured out Feng’s identity, who was very likely the so-called "person from the east" he kept mentioning.
But what exactly are the people from the east, and what does it mean by the eastern army violating the borders? From a literal interpretation, Luo’er was more inclined to think it referred to enemies from the east invading, rather than enemies invading from the east. Or perhaps, both?
In any case, no matter what it was, Luo’er felt that this fox-ear tribe youth named Danggui was an excellent breakthrough.
For some time, they had been searching for signs of civilization on the East Continent, but the endless mountains and forests always left them in despair, making them think there were no civilizations on the East Continent.
However, the appearance of Danggui changed everything. From him, Luo’er could obtain a lot of useful information. For example, judging by his attire and the weapons he carried, he must belong to a relatively advanced feudal civilization, at least not a primitive one.
Moreover, from the information he revealed, the East Continent did not just have their tribe, but also an organization called Abisien, as well as the people from the east.
Even though Danggui was brandishing a knife and making threats, it was clear to see that the hand holding the knife was shaking non-stop, meaning that he was just putting up a fierce front and didn’t really want to risk his life.
With that thought, Luo’er gave Cheng Ziang a significant glance. The latter instantly understood, exchanged a look with Hu Daoke, and they both nodded in silent agreement.
Danggui’s attention was all on Feng; he didn’t notice the movement behind him. Hu Daoke quietly approached him from behind and then suddenly restrained him, followed swiftly by Cheng Ziang, who struck like lightning, grabbing Danggui’s knife-wielding right hand and forcefully twisting it the wrong way.
In this coordinated effort, they managed to take control of Danggui effortlessly. The intense pain from the joint lock instinctively made Danggui release the hilt of the knife, and Cheng Ziang immediately kicked the knife out of his reach.
"You’re really choosing the hard way, aren’t you? Can’t we have a civil conversation without resorting to knives and guns?" Cheng Ziang slapped his cheek lightly, sneering as he spoke.
Although Luo’er believed in treating strangers kindly, this did not mean they would unconditionally accept those who tried to harm them. For those who had revealed their hostility by drawing their knives, Luo’er was never courteous, as he carried the heavy burden of being the Captain of the Advance Team; he naturally could not act rashly.
Luo’er took the knife and sheath passed to him by his comrade, slowly slid the knife into its sheath, and looked at Danggui with an expressionless face, "I’ve asked you again and again to calm down, but you continue to question our identity, can we still communicate properly?"
Danggui stared at Luo’er, silent, clearly regarding him as the enemy.
"Listen carefully," Luo’er placed the knife against a tree, then said earnestly, "That girl grew up in the Western Continent. I don’t care what misconceptions you have about her, I want to tell you that she is from the Western Continent, not the person from the east that you think she is. And then, let me reaffirm our identity—we are from the Western Continent, we are foreigners, not the eastern people you think we are, and definitely not your enemy."
Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, Danggui’s previously sharp gaze softened slightly, falling into thought.
"You must have something to report back, don’t you? If you keep dragging this on, your people won’t receive the message about the eastern army violating the borders, and you know very well what their fate would be," Luo’er continued to reason with him, though his tone sounded more like a threat.
"Are you really not the enemy?" Danggui asked tentatively after swallowing.
"Absolutely true," Luo’er gestured for them to release him, then bent down to pick up the knife and tossed it to him, saying, "This is the second time I’m trusting you, I hope there won’t be a third time."
Catching the knife thrown by Luo’er, Danggui’s wariness of him significantly reduced. In fact, for Luo’er, even with a weapon, Danggui was no match for the Advance Team. But in Danggui’s eyes, this was absolute trust, so he finally began to believe what Luo’er had said.
"The eastern army, that’s the Dongsheng Empire’s forces. They have amassed a large army and invaded our lands, capturing more than a dozen cities in the south. I must return to Lingyuan City to report this to our leader and unite with Abisien to confront the Dongsheng Empire’s forces," Danggui finally broke the silence.
"The Dongsheng Empire?" Luo’er felt puzzled, hearing this term for the first time.
"Yes, the Dongsheng Empire, an empire of the Human Race to the east of West Outer Heaven. The people there are like her," Danggui said, stealing a glance at Feng, then continued, "Their vanguard is already advancing deep into the north, I must deliver this message back to Lingyuan City."
"Lingyuan City...is that the headquarters of Abisien?" Luo’er asked hesitantly.
"Yes!" Danggui nodded.
