Chapter 1171: Chapter 1164: Psychological Invasion
About half an hour passed when the door to the study opened, and Fulanta emerged with his wife and daughter. They could see the red around his wife and daughter’s eyes, clearly having just shed tears.
"Sir, please take them away. I am more than willing to serve you by helping to infiltrate those people’s ranks and provide the necessary intelligence to the district government," Fulanta seemed to have made up his mind, he spoke to Cheng Ziang with courage.
"Thank you for your help," Cheng Ziang nodded slightly in a gesture of respect.
"No, no, no, this is what I should do. I should be thanking you for the warning," Fulanta said, waving his hand.
"Good, we will take good care of your family. You go ahead without worry about them," Cheng Ziang nodded in assurance.
"I am in your debt, sirs," Fulanta said with a bow.
"Here, this is a Rune sticker. You know magic, don’t you?" Cheng Ziang asked as he handed over a sticker.
"I know some, my aptitude is not bad, although I’ve never attended the Magic Academy..." Fulanta nodded as he accepted the sticker.
"Good, I’ll tell you the Rune spell later. We’ll use this Messenger Magic to communicate," Cheng Ziang said.
"Thank you for gifting me such a wonderful thing," Fulanta was clearly taken aback by the gesture.
"No need for thanks," Cheng Ziang waved his hand dismissively, then suddenly asked, "Do you think you can find them?"
"There shouldn’t be a problem," Fulanta responded.
"Hmm, alright then, have you thought about how you will join them?" Cheng Ziang nodded, continuing his questioning.
Fulanta looked back at his wife and daughter and then said, "Forgive my impertinence, but I plan to tell them that the district government killed my wife and daughter for no reason and use that as my reason to join them."
"That’s fine, that reason is a good one," Cheng Ziang nodded in approval.
"Lastly, I must ask you sirs to please take good care of my family," Fulanta said, bowing once more.
"Go without worry, our district government keeps its word," Cheng Ziang patted his shoulder, feeling that his plan was halfway to success.
Soon, a group of people rode horses away from the estate, heading towards Lipei with grand momentum. Fulanta’s wife and daughter shouldn’t be underestimated as horse riders; they galloped swiftly, appearing very skilled and not at all like typical gentlewomen.
By the time the group made their way back to Lipei, they found that the office staff had changed. Because the Joint Command needed high-ranking military officers capable of making command decisions, Wang Xu had to go there, leaving Li Si to take over the office side of things.
"You returned to the office, but what about Luo’er?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking at Li Si.
"I had Luoya take care of him," Li Si replied with a shrug.
"Not Luoya going into the city hospital, surely?" Cheng Ziang asked, eyes widening.
"Luo’er’s identity has been semi-public for a while now; had it not been for the special agents at the Ministry of State Security holding the fort, Luo’er’s hospital room would have been swamped by now. Nowadays, those doctors and nurses even have to draw lots to decide who gets to do the routine checks in Luo’er’s room," Li Si explained, spreading his hands.
"Alright then..." Cheng Ziang responded, a touch melancholic.
"By the way, boss said you went to investigate a case, how is progress?" Li Si inquired.
"We found that fellow named Fulanta and he has nothing to do with Luo’er’s case; he was framed by the attacker. The same group of people is behind both the attack on Luo’er and the assault on the village. I’ve arranged for Fulanta to infiltrate their group as an inside man to provide us with intelligence on them," Cheng Ziang reported.
"Is that guy trustworthy?" Li Si asked with concern.
"I brought his family back to Lipei," Cheng Ziang replied with a shrug.
"You kid..." Li Si was at a loss for words.
But after careful consideration, Cheng Ziang’s approach seemed problem-free and indeed very correct; after all, they did need Fulanta’s family as hostages to ensure his loyalty.
"How did that attacker manage to give away Fulanta?" Li Si asked, puzzled.
"It must be a grudge seeking revenge," Cheng Ziang said. "I’ve already dispatched Old Hu to continue the interrogation of that guy to find the real mastermind behind the scenes."
"Just don’t kill him!" Li Si said with concern.
"Don’t worry, we know when to stop," Cheng Ziang assured.
After reporting the latest developments, Cheng Ziang went to the prison cell where Hu Daoke and others were tormenting the attacker. This time, however, the man remained silent no matter what, clearly intending to be obstinate to the end.
"This guy is so stubborn, he must have been fooling us last time," Hu Daoke said, panting.
"Enough, if you continue, he’ll die. Let’s approach this differently," Cheng Ziang entered the cell and suggested.
"How should we handle it?" Hu Daoke asked.
"We need to outwit him, old iron, not just brute force," Cheng Ziang shook his head helplessly, then waved his hand to signal everyone to untie the attacker.
At that moment, the attacker lay on the ground, barely alive, having been severely beaten by them. Cheng Ziang squatted down, frowned slightly, then covered his nose and, after a moment of contemplation, said, "You were just tricking us last time, weren’t you? Tell me, who put you up to this?"
The attacker lay on the ground, silent. Seeing this, Hu Daoke was about to deliver a few more kicks but was stopped by Cheng Ziang.
"This guy obviously can take a beating; we need a different approach," Cheng Ziang waved his hand, then continued to ask, "Let me guess, the reason you lied to us is because the real mastermind promised to take care of your family or someone you care about, right?"
The attacker’s body suddenly trembled, and he slowly looked up.
Cheng Ziang’s question was inspired by Fulanta and his family. This man was definitely in a dire situation, but his willingness to falsely accuse others even in the face of death clearly indicated that whatever the mastermind offered wasn’t spent on him but rather on someone he cared about.
And because of this, he dared to infiltrate Lipei’s domain to attack Luo’er, even framing others after being caught.
"Did I hit the mark?" Cheng Ziang smiled triumphantly as he observed the attacker’s unusual behavior.
However, the attacker had a strong mental fortitude, and soon he lay back down, ignoring Cheng Ziang.
Yet, for Cheng Ziang, as long as he had found the direction to breakthrough, breaking through the attacker’s psychological defense was just a matter of time.
"Listen well, if you confess the mastermind behind this now, we’ll let bygones be bygones. But if you insist on remaining tight-lipped, then don’t blame us for being cruel. We will find your family or someone you care about. Then, whatever you did to Luo’er, I will do to them. I mean what I say," Cheng Ziang threatened.
He could clearly feel the attacker trembling, but his psychological defenses were still strong and not something that could be easily broken with a few words. For this, he might need a trick up his sleeve.
"Tie him to the chair, don’t torment him anymore, I’ll be right back!" Cheng Ziang said, then quickly left the prison.
About an hour later, he returned at a leisurely pace, accompanied by a familiar yet invisible guest.
"Fulajie’er, are you ready to invade his territory?" Cheng Ziang asked the air.
He had gone to find Fulajie’er’s sister, bringing Fulajie’er back with him. As a spirit, Fulajie’er could invade other people’s territories and read their subconscious memories directly.
"Is he the one who hurt Luo’er?" Fulajie’er asked angrily.
"Stay calm, finding the mastermind is what’s most important. We’ve already beaten him several times, leave him be for now," Cheng Ziang soothed.
"Fine, I’ll follow your lead for now. But once we find the mastermind, I want to avenge Luo’er personally," Fulajie’er said, sounding distressed.
"Suit yourself, but don’t kill anyone, or else I won’t be able to explain it to Luo’er," Cheng Ziang scratched his head and said.
Fulajie’er didn’t say anything more. Following that, the attacker tied to the chair began to convulse inexplicably, writhing uncomfortably and his face expressed agony.
This discomfort came from the invasion of territory. Although there was no physical harm, it could inflict great damage on a person’s psyche.
Soon, Fulajie’er left his territory and obtained a name: "Talexil."
