Chapter 1142: Chapter 1135: The Trade of Truth

Xia Yue’s disdain was only for the dismissive attitude displayed by these researchers towards the Magic Research Institute, thinking they could just fiddle around to achieve results, completely forgetting the rigor that scientific research should have.

Following Xia Yue’s command, everyone began to mobilize; a group went to check and verify the Rune patterns of the Otherworld Gate, while another group began drawing a huge Magic Array around the Otherworld Gate on the ground.

Verification is a very arduous task. As mentioned before, the frame of the Otherworld Gate is almost covered with Runes. The larger the frame, the more Runes there are in terms of quantity and variety, thus it’s a task that greatly tests one’s eyesight and endurance.

Moreover, this task is extremely important because once the Rune pattern is wrong, it’s very easy to connect to other worlds. Then, if you want to close it, it would take a great effort, the difficulty of which is almost equivalent to slaying a god.

However, thankfully, most of the Runes on the Otherworld Gate at present have not changed; only a small portion needs correction. Xia Yue’s drawings record these potentially changeable Runes, which is why people were sent to verify them.

The most important Rune of the Otherworld Gate is the coordinate system Rune, as it concerns whether the Otherworld Gate can reconnect to its original world. Although the coordinate system Rune can be derived through calculations, Xia Yue seemed not to need calculations, directly manipulating the data left by the Ancestors.

In the Ancestor Era, the Otherworld was connected to Earth multiple times. Although it was not suitable for inhabitants from the Otherworld, the Ancestors still surveyed and sampled Earth, saving the data in a database.

Moreover, there’s one thing that Xia Yue had never told Luo’er and the others. That is, to some extent, Earth is the world closest to the Otherworld and the one with the most frequent exchanges.

Therefore, even without the Otherworld Gate, Earth is especially susceptible to the influence of magic from the Otherworld, resulting in some supernatural phenomena.

At night, a series of searchlights lit up the construction site, illuminating the entire area as if it were daylight.

This was the Magic Crystal searchlight, invented by collecting cold light generated by Runes through a focusing effect. Although it wasn’t as powerful as Earth’s electric lights, it was already the best lighting tool in the Otherworld.

Xia Yue sat alone on the railing of the second floor of the portable cabin, silently staring at the brightly lit construction site and the people coming and going in the distance.

Before long, she heard a series of hurried footsteps. Looking towards the sound, she saw Zhuyan Yu running towards her with a notebook held tightly.

Upon seeing Xia Yue, Zhuyan Yu immediately reported, "Xia Yue, all the Runes of the Otherworld Gate have been verified without error."

"Understood," Xia Yue responded indifferently.

"Uh..." Zhuyan Yu stood still, looking like she had something more to say, but hesitant.

"Is there anything else?" Xia Yue asked.

"Well, Xia Yue, about some stories of the Ancestors, there are a few details I’d like to verify with you, you see..." Zhuyan Yu asked timidly.

Hearing her question, Xia Yue seemed to suddenly remember something, and her lips curled into a smile. Sitting up straight, she turned her head and looked at Zhuyan Yu with a smile.

"Come over here," Xia Yue said, smiling and beckoning Zhuyan Yu.

"Xia Yue, what would you like to instruct?" Zhuyan Yu asked, stepping forward with some trepidation.

"Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you, I have no right to harm anyone," Xia Yue said reassuringly.

"So, Xia Yue..." Zhuyan Yu approached her carefully.

"You already know my identity, don’t you?" Xia Yue asked, tilting her head.

"Yes, you are the maintainer of the order of this world," Zhuyan Yu nodded in response.

"Then, what do you know about my body?" Xia Yue continued to ask.

"No, I don’t understand it particularly well..." Zhuyan Yu said, blinking and speaking uneasily.

"My body is an unconscious carbon-based lifeform, an ancient species brought from Earth by the Ancestors," Xia Yue said, tilting her head as she looked at her fingers.

Quickly, her slender fingers transformed into writhing tentacles, making Zhuyan Yu’s scalp prickle.

"You’ve got quite the nerve, haven’t you?" Xia Yue glanced at the nervous Zhuyan Yu with a smile. "Do you know why I’m telling you all this?"

"I don’t know." Zhuyan Yu inhaled deeply and said with feigned composure.

"I want to make a deal with you, a deal that will leave you completely satisfied," Xia Yue said, looking at her intently.

"What kind of deal..." Zhuyan Yu asked.

"If Luo’er were here, he would definitely disagree, but fortunately, it’s just the two of us right now..." Xia Yue said evasively, as she turned her head to look into the distance. On the brightly lit construction site, Luo’er was discussing plans with his team.

"This deal is simple, you just need to pay a very small price to gain what you’ve been dreaming of. I think it’s a good exchange, both for you and for me," Xia Yue continued after a pause.

"Do you know what I want?" Zhuyan Yu asked calmly.

"Not everyone is skilled at concealing their intentions," Xia Yue squinted at her with a smile.

"Then, what do you want?" Zhuyan Yu continued.

"What I want is all the knowledge in your mind. Of course, I’m not going to steal or take your knowledge forcibly, I just need to scan and copy it into my own mind. How about that, pretty fair conditions, right?" Xia Yue asked, tilting her head.

"Why do you need the memories in my mind?" Zhuyan Yu asked.

"As I said before, I need to lead the Elf Planet Project, which means dealing with Earthlings. I also need some knowledge reserves about Earth. You’ve been a genius since childhood, learning faster than anyone else, and you’ve mastered almost all the mainstream Earth languages. For me, you are the ideal target to enhance my knowledge reserves," Xia Yue explained.

"If the cost is so minimal, then why would Luo’er disagree?" Zhuyan Yu looked towards Luo’er and asked.

"Prejudice!" Xia Yue didn’t elaborate but sighed softly instead.

She reached out her hand, which still writhed with tentacle-like movement.

Zhuyan Yu stared at her squirming tentacles, frowning slightly, then asked calmly, "Do you know what I want?"

"I think that for a conversation between smart people, there’s no need for such meaningless chatter," Xia Yue said lightly.

"Then can you tell me everything?" asked Zhuyan Yu, her heartbeat clearly quickening.

"Everything is impossible, but I can tell you one truth, which you can use to deduce on your own. Also, I can tell you all about the history of the Ancestors, how’s that?" Xia Yue asked.

"A generous offer, I can’t see a reason to refuse," Zhuyan Yu’s interest piqued, and she slowly lifted her hand.

"Will there be a cost?" she asked, still somewhat hesitant.

"No, I have no interest in using such sordid methods to control others, the only cost might be that you’ll feel uncomfortable for a while," Xia Yue reassured her.

"It seems then, the deal is struck," Zhuyan Yu took a deep breath, her excitement evident in her voice, and her body even began to tremble uncontrollably.

"So then..." Xia Yue smiled and reached out to grasp her hand.

The moment her writhing tentacle touched Zhuyan Yu, it pierced her skin and quickly burrowed inside. Zhuyan Yu’s cheeks twitched, and her eyebrows knitted together in discomfort.

Just as Xia Yue had said, her invasion didn’t hurt. It seemed that the liquid secreted by the tentacles numbed Zhuyan Yu’s pain receptors. She only felt a swelling discomfort from the invasion, nothing more.

The invader quickly climbed up her arm, splitting in two directions – one taking over her chest cavity while the other climbed along the spine to occupy her brain, beginning the process of copying the memories and knowledge stored there.

Zhuyan Yu was very aware of the secrets her mind held, but in pursuit of the truth, she had thrown caution to the wind. Moreover, she believed that as an Otherworld deity, Xia Yue, even with knowledge of these secrets, would pose no threat to the organization.
