Chapter 1141 - 1134: Magic Safety Manual
Chapter 1141: Chapter 1134: Magic Safety Manual
"You!" The Masya mage was so infuriated that his lungs almost burst, and he pulled out his magic wand from his pocket and aimed it at Xia Yue.
Unfortunately for him, just as he drew his magic wand, he was frozen in place, unable to even speak, and resembled nothing more than a wax statue.
Executing such a trick, Xia Yue didn’t even need to move; it was all accomplished by her thoughts. Then, she shifted her gaze away from the Masya mage and looked towards Liu Anbang.
"Who exactly are you?" Liu Anbang stared at Xia Yue, unable to stop himself from muttering the question.
"Magic research in this world, unlike physical research on Earth, is fundamentally different. I can’t imagine how you could rely on the inertia of physical research on Earth to study magic; it’s simply a mistake of experiential dogmatism, failing to analyze specific issues specifically," Xia Yue continued scolding without addressing his question.
"Luo’er!" After scolding, Xia Yue called out to Luo’er.
"Do you have any instructions, Lady Xia Yue?" Luo’er stepped forward and asked respectfully.
"Lay out paper," Xia Yue ordered, "until it’s completely covered!"
"At once!" Luo’er nodded, then began searching for paper all around.
Since the research was conducted in the Otherworld, most of the data had to be handwritten on paper, hence the research center prepared many large sheets of paper for recording. A0 was the most common size, and there were even many rolls of paper, several meters long when unrolled.
With the help of the Advance Team, everyone covered the table with paper and then looked up at Xia Yue.
She surveyed her surroundings and nodded satisfactorily. Then, she picked up a bottle of ink, weighed it for a moment, and without further ado, she opened the cap and started pouring it out.
Amid the crowd’s gasps of surprise, a surprising scene unfolded; the ink didn’t drop and splatter on the table as expected but instead floated in mid-air, forming a huge blob of ink.
The crowd held their breath and quietly watched Xia Yue’s movements. After she finished pouring the ink, she casually tossed the bottle under the table. Then she moved her index finger, and the ink blob began to twist and turn in the air, making several circles.
Then, Xia Yue suddenly raised her hand, shooting the ink blob into the air, where it abruptly exploded, turning into a cloud of black ink mist.
Xia Yue rotated her arms as the ink mist began to coalesce and swirl with her motions. Then, she suddenly pointed downwards again. The massive ink cloud immediately followed her gesture, dropping down and scattering over the papers laid on the table.
When the ink mist cloud had dissipated, a stunning scene appeared; the papers on the table were now filled with various runes and corresponding explanatory text, all drawn at an unspecified moment.
The people present widened their eyes at the sight of the white papers covered with runes and text, all falling into a state of shock, gasping and unable to recover for quite a while.
Xia Yue seemed quite pleased with the astonished looks from everyone. She bent down to pick up an A4 paper, looking down at it; it had a beautifully drawn circular rune, but it was unmarked.
"Luo’er, what are the most critical precautions and taboos when studying rune magic circles?" Xia Yue asked, looking at the rune without lifting her head.
"Err..." Luo’er thought for a moment, turned his head to exchange a look with Tangmo, then hesitantly said, "Rune disorder..."
"Well said, it looks like you’ve learned things that you haven’t yet taught Teacher Zhu," Xia Yue said, then she flung the paper into the air. The rune on the A4 paper suddenly glowed, abruptly ignited into flames, and instantly engulfed the A4 paper.
The burning lasted for less than two seconds, completely incinerating the A4 paper without leaving even ash behind.
"Such basic knowledge, even a high school graduate from Haiya Academy knows it. Don’t you Earth scientists, who research magic, have any clue?" Xia Yue looked around at everyone, then fixed her gaze on Liu Anbang.
Facing Xia Yue’s direct and piercing criticism, Liu Anbang appeared somewhat embarrassed, his aged face awash with awkwardness.
"I presume you carry the typical arrogance of Earthlings in your approach to studying magic, thinking that magic is easier than your high-energy physics, so you completely disregard the advice of mages and instead bring in so-called mages of no repute to support appearances. Is this your attitude toward research?"
As Xia Yue spoke, her eyes swept over the crowd, causing the Earth scientists who met her gaze to lower their heads in shame.
"These things you’ve drawn, have you ever consulted a veteran mage to see if they work, if they might malfunction? I thought not. It’s fortunate that runes are not activated by ink; otherwise, you lot would be like lighting candles in a gunpowder factory—seeking death," Xia Yue continued coldly.
The scene that followed was astonishing. These researchers, whose average age was over fifty, were being reprimanded by a high-and-mighty little elf girl, and not one of them dared to look up or object. For a moment, the entire research center fell eerily silent.
Although Xia Yue’s words were crude, her reasoning was not, which left many unable to retort. All the researchers present had disregarded the function of runes—it seemed they had all forgotten that aside from runes failing to activate or becoming ineffective, a disordered rune was the most terrifying potentiality.
If gunpowder is ignited accidentally, at most it causes severe burning, and in confined spaces, explosions. Disordered runes, however, can easily lead to disastrous outcomes with even the slightest mishap.
Therefore, mages from the Otherworld are extremely cautious when studying the Rune Magic Circle, handling everything with great care. Even someone as arrogant as Fu’en was very careful in his research of runes, daring not to make adjustments lightly.
And now, these researchers from Earth seemed completely unaware of the dangers of rune disorder, proposing all sorts of hypotheses based on their own experiences haphazardly. It was fortunate that Xia Yue and others arrived in time; otherwise, if someone carelessly drew a disordered rune with magical materials, the situation could have become dire.
After scolding everyone, Xia Yue took a deep breath and then said sternly, "Zhuyan Yu, Nightingale, Axia, Tangmo, and Baiyue, step forward!"
The individuals she called looked at each other, then stepped forward one by one, respectfully responding, "Present!"
"This is the rune that connects to Shenghua Academy on Earth. Take it and confirm that it’s correct immediately. The rest of you, take these runes and draw the corresponding Magic Array in the square, using the Otherworld Gate as the center according to the blueprint," Xia Yue instructed expressionlessly, while she kicked the blueprint over to them with her delicate, fair foot.
"Yes, we will arrange it immediately," the women who took the blueprint nodded and replied.
"Listen well, although this project is massive, I want it completed by noon tomorrow, and then I will activate the Otherworld Gate myself. Do you hear me?" Xia Yue said.
"Yes, we guarantee it will be completed," the women nodded again emphatically.
"The rest of you, the Advance Team, and Li Si, I am assigning your people to secure the research site. Absolutely do not let any incidents occur again. Do you understand?" Xia Yue, looking expressionless, turned to Luo and others as she instructed.
"Understood, we guarantee to complete the task," Luo and others nodded emphatically.
"As for you," Xia Yue turned her head, her gaze falling on Liu Anbang and the other researchers, she said mercilessly, "dismiss these subpar mages you’ve hired, then go find a graduate from Haiya Academy or Shenghua Academy to properly study a safety manual on magic research. If you continue to study magic with arrogance, then wait for your own demise."
Facing Xia Yue’s reprimand, none of the researchers dared to object, all of them shamefully bowing their heads. Indeed, their enthusiasm for magic research couldn’t be denied, but neither could their ignorant understanding of it.
If only they had respected magic research even slightly, they wouldn’t have made such absurd mistakes or carried out so many improper practices.
In the past, to shut down the Otherworld Gate of Lipei, Tangmo, Baiyue, and Shariya had computed rune trajectories day and night, just to prevent any disorder from occurring. Tangmo and Baiyue, who had just graduated from high school, had already shown such a cautious attitude, even more so than these scientists who had studied science their whole lives.
