Chapter 1109: Chapter 112: Pilgrimage Ceremony
Following the same path they took before, the group took the same amount of time to return to Antenisivia once more.
By this time, Antenisivia was no longer as desolate as it had been when Luo’er and his companions first arrived. The streets were festooned with lanterns and colorful decorations, and the harbor was filled with ships. Almost all the Night Elves on the island had rushed over upon hearing of the divine miracle of Xiapei Kam.
There were rumors that even Kalenisa, known for its trade, had been left nearly empty, as many Night Elves brought their families to Antenisivia, making it so that only the Blaiqi people were active in the entire city. First-time visitors even mistook it for a city of the Blaiqi people.
So, after returning to Antenisivia, the Advance Team and Xia Yue ceased their activities. Falei settled the Advance Team and then began preparing for the grand pilgrimage ceremony.
If the journey to the ruins had been accompanied only by a portion of the Night Elves, this time, Xia Yue was enjoying a pilgrimage ceremony attended by Elves from the entire island.
She seemed quite aware of her responsibilities and knew what she had to do, even without Falei having to tell her.
A pyramid was quickly erected on a plot of open land in the outskirts of the city. The Elf Race seemed to have a fondness for pyramids, although typically they built those about ten or more meters high, somewhat similar to Mayan Pyramid styles.
Xia Yue sat atop the high pyramid, basking in the worship of the surrounding Elves. They circled around her, stopping every ten steps to kneel, bow down, and then lift their hands high, palms facing upward.
This was a ritual of the Elf Race, known to Night Elves, Wood Elves, and even the Northern Snow Elves.
Xia Yue was dressed in elaborate and heavy attire that entirely enveloped her small frame. She also wore a resplendent but enormous headdress, which made one worry if her neck could bear the weight.
Yet, after all, Xia Yue was not human, and if one disregarded this fact and only judged by her appearance, it would indeed evoke sympathy.
There she sat, quietly atop the pyramid, her back straight and her demeanor formal, relishing the adoration of the Elves below.
Her face was painted with a light touch of makeup, adding another layer of beauty to her already flawless visage. Whenever anyone glimpsed her countenance, respect was the first thought to come to their minds, rather than anything else.
After all, being not human, Xia Yue was able to maintain that posture without moving for several days, needing neither food nor drink, resembling a statue as she quietly reveled in the worship of the Elves below.
The ceremony lasted for five entire days, and so did the stay of the Advance Team in Antenisivia. Throughout these five days, Night Elves from across the island came in an endless stream; as one group departed, another arrived.
Before the ceremony began, Xia Yue had told the Advance Team to wait for her in Antenisivia, and they had no choice but to comply with her command and endure the five-day wait.
After all, Xia Yue Island was the territory of the Night Elves, and she was the deity of the Night Elves. Should she wish to detain the Advance Team, she wouldn’t even need to lift a finger—merely a command would have been enough for the Advance Team to be instantly surrounded by a tide of Night Elves, with no chance of escape.
After five days, the ceremony finally drew to a perfect close, though many Night Elves were still en route. They were informed upon arrival that the ceremony was over, leaving them beating their chests and stamping their feet in frustration.
It was now evening, and the square was cleared. With Falei’s assistance, Xia Yue descended the steps at a leisurely pace. Her thick priestly robes made her appear twice as bulky, and a giant metal headdress adorned her head, allowing only half of her small face to be visible.
The intricate and dense ceremonial attire and the massive, heavy headdress contrasted starkly with her slender figure, making her appear even more delicate.
Falei, visibly excited, held onto one of Xia Yue’s hands, carefully helping her down the steps. His hands trembled with excitement, and even his steps were unsteady.
Xia Yue glanced at him, and Falei’s usually calm and dignified face showcased a flustered expression, blushing red and radiating unstoppable excitement from his eyes.
"Falei," Xia Yue called gently.
"My lord, what are your orders?" Hearing Xia Yue’s call, Falei trembled violently, then asked respectfully, bowing his head.
"Stay calm, stay calm, it’s no big deal if I fall, but if you fall, it could be fatal." Xia Yue said indifferently.
"No no no, it’s fine if I fall, but it’s a serious matter if you fall, my lord." Falei said earnestly.
"Alright, stop trembling, just help me down slowly," Xia Yue sighed, shaking her head helplessly.
With Falei’s support, Xia Yue slowly descended the pyramid. At this time, a luxurious carriage had been waiting there for a long while, with its door opened facing Xia Yue.
Upon reaching the carriage, Falei let go of her hand, dashed to the door in one swift move, then bent down on his knees, allowing Xia Yue to step on his back to enter the carriage.
If it were not witnessed with their own eyes, probably no one would believe that the highest religious ruler of Xia Yue Island, the dignified High Priest Falei, would bend so humbly before a little girl.
Of course, even if it were witnessed, the Night Elves wouldn’t find it surprising. After all, being in close contact with their god, such a sacrifice was truly trivial. Moreover, it was more of a blessing than a sacrifice.
Xia Yue did not refuse, so she stepped on Falei’s back and then climbed into the carriage. Her long skirt trailed behind her; Falei quickly got up from the ground and then gathered her skirt inside.
"Come and sit inside," Xia Yue said lightly from within the carriage.
"Thank you, my lord, thank you!" Falei prostrated several times on the spot before hurriedly climbing into the carriage. In her excitement, she nearly fell.
The carriage rolled down the street into the royal palace of Antenisivia, which, aside from housing the royal family, also served as an important religious site. As the secular royalty of Xia Yue Island hardly had any presence, the palace was in reality Priest Falei’s palace.
The streets were bustling as crowds cheered around the carriage, seemingly aware that their god was inside. Thus, it took Xia Yue and her company quite some time to travel from the outskirts to the palace. At least twice the usual number of guards were stationed at the palace gates to hold back the excited believers.
"I’m exhausted," Xia Yue muttered instinctively as she hopped off the carriage upon reaching the palace entrance.
After catching her breath, she turned to Falei, who was dealing with her skirt, and said, "Prepare the sacrificial livestock for me, I need to feed."
"Yes, my lord, right away," Falei nodded repeatedly, dropping the skirt and departing without regard to her appearance.
"Sigh..." Watching Falei leave, Xia Yue let out a long sigh of relief, then raised her hand to remove the heavy headdress, tossing it aside, and also untying her hairband. Her silvery white hair cascaded down like the Milky Way, trailing all the way to the floor.
With each couple of steps she took, she removed an article of clothing until she was left only in the garments she had conjured from her own body.
She wore a pure white dress and was still barefoot, her delicate little feet on the hard floor. The palace was exceptionally quiet at this moment, devoid of any people, and Xia Yue began checking her fingers...
Before long, Falei had someone bring up several freshly slaughtered and cleaned animals, placing them in front of Xia Yue.
Xia Yue waved her hand, signaling for everyone to leave, then made a gesture to Falei who immediately understood and prostrated herself on the ground, not daring to raise her head until she received a command from Xia Yue.
Actually, Xia Yue simply did not want anyone to see how she ate, because efficiency was necessary for her. Therefore, she wouldn’t foolishly eat bite by bite with her mouth but would directly absorb the animal flesh through her body, replenishing her nutrients.
In this way, Xia Yue turned back into an indescribable mass of flesh, beginning to consume the animals, refusing to even leave the bones behind. Strange noises filled the palace, and from time to time, slime dripped onto the floor, but as if alive, it would quickly move towards the main body and eventually merge back into it.
After about three and a half minutes, Xia Yue’s feeding finally ended, and she reverted back to her humanoid shape. On the ground was a dark puddle of mucus, the waste product of her metabolism.
