Chapter 1097: Chapter 1090: Heading South
Though Kalenisa was inhabited by many people from other races, the majority were still Night Elves, with female soldiers dominating both the city walls and patrolling the streets.
Notably, despite the presence of outsiders and Elven folk in Kalenisa, there was distinctly one group missing, the Half-elves.
Looking around the entire city, one could hardly spot a Half-elf. There were either members of other races or Night Elves, with no transition in between.
Thus it seemed, in some respects, Night Elves tended to be conservative. Luo’er did not know if there were Half-elves in other parts of the island, but judging from the situation in Kalenisa, he surmised that the island probably had no Half-elves, or if it did, they were very few in number.
Research reports from Earth indicated that although the Night Elves had the most mixed-blood members within the Elf Race, the vast majority lived on the Continent. On Xia Yue Island, their presence was scarcely seen.
After arriving in the city, the female Elf Captain led everyone into the military encampment bunker. Just before entering, Luo’er and Wadulan said their goodbyes and let them return first.
The Advance Team entering the encampment also felt somewhat uneasy, always feeling that if the Night Elves were to suddenly turn hostile, they might struggle to cope, but Luo’er seemed quite calm about this.
After the Advance Team settled into the encampment, Talis left with the female Captain. Since arriving on Xia Yue Island, Talis seemed to have loosened up a lot, no longer showing the same timidity. Although she still wore a smile, her demeanor had become much more lively.
Gazing at the towering city walls and the armed Night Elf warriors, there was an unspoken unease in everyone’s hearts, for they all carried rifles. If a conflict were to arise, without Fulajie’er’s magical assistance, the Advance Team would have found it difficult to confront these individuals.
After all, firearms are such that despite generational differences, these differences aren’t pronounced; the biggest distinction is merely between automatic and bolt-action weapons. Even bullets from decades ago could still pierce through a person.
However, Luo’er appeared very composed. For some reason, from the moment he set foot on Xia Yue Island, he felt as though something was guiding him. Unlike Tana’s domination, this guidance provided him with a sense of security, which is why he boldly followed the Night Elves’ arrangements without worry.
He had initially wanted Fulajie’er to scout around and fathom the Night Elves’ intentions, but the awkward reality was that most of the time, the Night Elves conversed in Elvish, which Fulajie’er just happened to not understand, forcing them to abandon the plan.
After a night of tossing and turning, everyone finally lay down in their clothes. Once the seawater on their bodies dried, it crystallized, causing great discomfort to all. These Night Elves were really something—not even willing to spare them a change of clothes.
The next day, the female Elf Captain and Talis took the Advance Team aboard a merchant ship bound for Antenisivia, officially setting off through the shallow sea.
The ship was a Night Elf-chartered merchant vessel. Apart from the sailors, the rest were all armed Night Elf warriors, and all the Night Elves on board were women.
Under the sunlight, these Night Elves revealed their unique complexion—a relatively dim, cold-toned skin color, but only when compared to the rest of the Elf Race.
It should be noted that although Night Elves have darker skin, it is only considered dark in comparison to other Elven kind. To other races, their skin is still quite fair.
Generally, if the Elf Race were to be ranked by skin color, Snow Elves would be at the top. These proud spirits, living in the northern Snow Domain, possess the fairest skin of all the elves across both worlds, as the Advance Team had already witnessed.
Next would be Wood Elves. Despite their origins in the tropics, their skin is also very fair. Furthermore, Wood Elves score the highest in overall attributes among the Elf Race, though they have a comparatively soft and gentle demeanor.
Luo’er, being of mixed Wood Elf heritage, was considered a little lolita when he was young and even deemed the campus beauty upon growing up, which made him too embarrassed to speak of it.
Night Elves could also be called Dark Elves due to their relatively dimmer skin compared to other Elf Race members, primarily because they have been living on tropical islands, which has darkened their complexion.
But it must be said that the Night Elves’ skin remains quite fair in the eyes of outsiders, and even seems more vivacious.
The attire of the Night Elf warriors was quite fascinating. They wore leather armor and skirt armor, with loose and soft tunics and leggings underneath, leaving their arms and legs exposed. Their headgear and armor had many beautiful metal decorations, which were very pleasing to the eye.
At first glance, their garb resembled that of the soldiers of the Roman Empire. The Night Elves wore sandals that wrapped around their calves and carried broad-bladed shortswords at their waists, but their primary weapons were the rifles on their shoulders.
I wondered if they had applied makeup, for under the sunlight, their features were strikingly vivid and pleasant to look at. Their rosy lips were especially noticeable, and one could not help but have their eyes drawn to their delicate, tempting lips at first glance.
To speak frankly, the attire of these Night Elf warriors seemed less suited for the battlefield and slaughter, and more like they were meant for ceremonial receptions.
Each of the Night Elf warriors stood vigilantly at their posts. The sailors busied themselves with their tasks, yet their eyes occasionally wandered to the Night Elves. Although they had spent a considerable amount of time on Xia Yue Island, they couldn’t resist stealing extra glances at the scantily clad Night Elves, taking inner satisfaction.
Once the merchant ship was underway, Talis approached everyone and comforted Luo’er, "Captain Luo’er, please rest assured, we mean you no harm. We have received orders from the High Priest to treat you all with the courtesy due to distinguished guests and bring you to Antenisivia."
"How did your High Priest know to expect us?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"Our High Priest possesses divine powers and is a faithful devotee of Sir Xiapei Kam. This time, he must have received some kind of divine hint from Sir Xiapei Kam," Talis answered.
"Your Xiapei Kam actually issues direct orders to you?" Luo’er asked, somewhat surprised.
"Yes, Sir Xiapei Kam rules over Xia Yue Island, and we are all his subjects, naturally under his governance," Talis said.
"So, you mean to say that he had noticed us from the day we set foot on the island?" Luo’er asked.
"Yes!" Talis gently nodded.
"No wonder..." Luo’er murmured in agreement, and then fell silent.
"No wonder what?" Tangmo asked curiously.
"Ever since I set foot on the island, I felt as if someone was whispering in my mind. Now that I think about it, it must have been Xiapei Kam," Luo’er said with a frown.
"Wow, you’re a Wood Elf, and Xiapei Kam was still able to connect with you?" Tangmo asked in a tone of mock disbelief.
"Moumou," Luo’er gave a bitter smile before explaining, "Whether it’s Tana or Xiapei Kam, they are both gods of the Elf Race, and there’s no such thing as only Tana being able to guide Wood Elves and Xiapei Kam only being able to guide Night Elves."
"Oh, I see," Tangmo nodded, pursing her lips.
"Now that we’re on Xia Yue Island, Tana should no longer be able to influence you, right?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Yes, that should be the case," Luo’er nodded in affirmation.
"Hehe, Luo’er," Tangmo suddenly thought of something and, with a smile, wrapped her arm around Luo’er’s, "Look at how pristine and beautiful Xia Yue Island is. If you can’t break your connection with Tana, why don’t we just settle here, and live like a pair of immortal lovers?"
"This is Xia Yue Island, the Night Elves’ Xia Yue Island," Luo’er said with a wry smile, "Although the Night Elves pride themselves on being inclusive and open-minded, they still have their taboos. Haven’t you noticed that not a single Half-elf exists in Kalenisa? Besides, I am a Wood Elf, the sworn enemy of the Night Elves. We are safe now probably because of Xiapei Kam’s intervention, but if we were to live here, wouldn’t that be a slap in the face to the Night Elves?"
