Chapter 1093: Chapter 1086: Xia Yue’s Dark Night
"Ah, it was a narrow escape," Hu Daoke, having climbed onto the shore, couldn’t help but lie down on the ground, shifting the cumbersome Type 47 squad machine gun from his back to the side. In such perilous circumstances, the fact that he could keep his weapon like Luo’er did was indeed a miracle.
"Yeah, a narrow escape..." Cheng Ziang lay beside him, speaking wearily.
"Once we get back to the continent, I swear I’m never setting foot in the Otherworld’s seas again!" Hu Daoke said through gritted teeth.
"Don’t make that kind of flag, who knows, next time you might be feeding the fishes," Cheng Ziang said.
"Hey, you crow’s mouth, can’t you say something nice?" Hu Daoke glared at him discontentedly.
Talis staggered off the boat onto the beach, then excitedly knelt down, bending over to kiss her homeland’s soil, moved to tears.
Considering she had led the team on an expedition to Snow Domain, only to return alone, it wasn’t surprising that it was a tragedy and that she was so upset.
Luo’er looked around despondently, by this time it had grown dark and they couldn’t make out their surroundings clearly. However, they were not far off course, and according to Wadulan, by following the coastline north, they should be able to see the port.
After all, Xia Yue Island, unlike Ilanadale, was one of the hubs of north-south trade, thus the island was quite bustling, inhabited not only by Night Elves but also visited temporarily by other races.
"Moumou, Yue’er, you still have the Prime Fluid, right?" Luo’er seemed to remember something and turned his head to ask the two.
"Yes, it’s with me, well taken care of," Baiyue raised the crossbody bag she wore.
"Ah, that’s good," Luo’er nodded in relief.
He was well aware of the Advance Team’s purpose of coming to Xia Yue Island this time. If the Prime Fluid were lost, that would have spoiled everything, and might even end up like throwing lamb into a tiger’s den.
"This is the place that Tana cannot tread..." Luo’er looked around, muttering, then turned to Wadulan to ask, "Captain, how many times have you been here?"
"Twice," Wadulan sniffed and then looked around, saying, "But each time it was only as a transit point, didn’t stay here much, so I’m not too familiar with it. If it were the port city of Kalenisa, I might be able to show you the way, but out here in the wild, we can only follow the coastline northwards."
Kalenisa was the main port city of Xia Yue Island, directly facing New Asia across the sea and also a significant node of north-south trade. There, the number of foreigners even exceeded the permanent population of Night Elves.
"Hey," hearing Wadulan and Luo’er’s conversation, Hu Daoke turned his head to Talis and asked loudly, "Night Elf, this island is your hometown, you know the way; what’s our next move?"
Talis turned her head to glare at him, then seriously said to Luo’er, "The capital of Xia Yue Island is in the south, in Antenisivia, where Sir Xiapei Kam’s sanctuary is located, so we need to head south."
"Are you crazy," Wadulan couldn’t help but blurt out, "From here to Antenisivia, following the coastline will be hundreds of kilometers; do you think we could survive that walk?"
Talis frowned and said irritatedly, "I didn’t say we’d walk there; I meant, let’s head to Kalenisa to look for carriages or boats, then we can go on to Antenisivia. I am executing the Priest’s orders, so I can temporarily requisition transportation on the island."
"Oh, I almost forgot, this is your hometown," Wadulan said.
"Since you know this is my homeland, show some respect!" Talis said coldly.
"What, just got ashore and you’re already trying to push your luck? On the continent you’re a beggar, but here on Xia Yue Island, you want to act like a princess?" Hu Daoke said mockingly.
"You!" Talis trembled with anger at his words.
"Enough, cut it out!" Luo’er interrupted the two, but his tone clearly favored Hu Daoke.
"Since you know the way, don’t dawdle, let’s get moving!" Cheng Ziang, having recuperated, got up from the beach, brushing off the sand, and said to her.
"Wait, wait, why does something feel wrong?" At that moment, Hu Daoke, who was lying on the beach, suddenly felt something and frowned as he spoke.
"What feels wrong?" Luo’er asked.
"Why does the ground seem to be trembling? Could it be an earthquake?" Hu Daoke commented while feeling the ground.
"An earthquake," Luo’er paused, then glanced at Talis, who looked confused, and turned to look at Baiyue before asking, "Is Xia Yue Island not on a tectonic plate boundary?"
"It isn’t, but Ilanadale is." Baiyue shook her head as she spoke. She was referring to the Namijiya Mountain Range within Ilanadale.
"That’s strange," Luo’er scratched his head and said.
Cheng Ziang knelt down and put his ear to the ground. After feeling it for a while, he raised his head and said seriously, "It’s the vibration from horse hooves; someone is heading this way."
"Damn, it can’t be the Night Elves coming to drive us away, can it?" As soon as Hu Daoke heard this, he immediately became nervous, jumped up from the ground, and started checking the light machine gun.
"Regardless, everyone get ready for battle and see if the newcomer is friend or foe!" Luo’er also acted cautiously, picking up his rifle and commanding.
"What are you trying to do?" Seeing everyone’s actions, Talis also became anxious.
"What are we trying to do? If your people accidentally inflict injury on us, who will be accountable for this?" Hu Daoke said as he forcefully pulled back the bolt of his light machine gun.
"With me here, no one can hurt you, and you all better not mess around!" Talis said as she spread her arms in front of them all.
"Perfect, stay right there and don’t move. If your people come looking for trouble, we’ll use you as a hostage!" Hu Daoke pointed at her and said.
"Fula, scout the battlefield!" Luo’er said quietly, immediately receiving her response in his mind, "Received!"
"Captain, your people are either dead or injured, you should take them to the port first, we don’t want you getting involved in our mess."
"What kind of talk is that? If we two forces unite, the other side won’t dare to make a move easily," Wadulan said, shouting loudly to the surroundings, "Guys, check your gear and get ready to face the enemy!"
But he could only show his sincerity, because unlike the Advance Team, these sailors had thrown all their weapons into the sea at the first sign of danger. Now that they barely made it ashore, each was empty-handed.
"Forget it, I still have a pistol in my pocket; it should suffice for now." Wadulan said as he pulled a small, ladies’-caliber handgun from his waist; Luo’er could only shake his head helplessly.
Suddenly, a noisy sound came from the woods, and dim lantern lights could also be seen.
As the noise drew closer, everyone heard the continuous sound of horse hooves. Along with the sound, several shimmering black figures emerged from the woods.
The figures stopped about five or six meters in front of them. The horses neighed and raised their forelegs, standing firmly in place.
Finally, everyone had the chance to take a good look at this impressive group of visitors.
They were a group of women dressed in very light attire, their relatively dark skin glistening under the phosphorescent light. The women wore light blouses and skirts, covered by cloaks on their shoulders, displaying their perfectly slender figures and captivating everyone’s attention.
Yet what caught the eye most were the golden metallic headdresses and half masks they wore on their heads. Those headdresses, somewhat akin to those of the Miao people, appeared to be ornamental rather than functional. Their hair was braided into several plaits, then coiled atop their heads, showcasing an exotic charm.
The horses stood still; the leading woman rode forward, pointing at Talis with the hand that held the whip, and spoke in a language that was unintelligible to the group.
The woman spoke Elvish, but Luo’er completely misunderstood her. Partly because he had surrendered his proficiency in Elvish back to his mother, and partly because the woman’s accent was so thick, he had no idea what she was saying.
