Chapter 1085: Chapter 1078: Old Friends Reunite
"Of course," Axia nodded gently.
"Great," Luo’er said excitedly.
Li Si stepped forward, bowed slightly to Axia, and respectfully said, "Thank you for your commitment, Miss Axia, welcome to the headquarters."
"There’s no need for such formality. As payment, you’ll have to take good care of Eve," Axia said with a wave of her hand.
"That’s a given, we won’t mistreat our own," Li Si nodded and replied.
After finishing their visit in Divine Wood Town, the airboat headed westward, all the way to the seaside. As a commercial airboat, its main power came from wind sails, combined with a small number of steam turbine propellers, so it was not very fast.
Compared to the most advanced airboats of the High-peak people, this type of airboat was at least three generations behind, only suitable for commercial use. Meanwhile, the most advanced Ronisca airboats had already begun to be equipped with Wind Sect turbofan engines, a cutting-edge product combining Earth technology with Otherworld magic.
The airboat flew over the lush jungle; everywhere one looked was an endless sea of greenery. Due to its low latitude and the influence of the southwest monsoon, Ilanadale was mainly tropical rainforest terrain. To develop, it had to cut into the rainforest.
Underneath the canopy, one could vaguely make out the contours of a road – one of the few within Ilanadale, an ancient cobblestone road built hundreds of years ago.
Ilanadale had established a new port city called New Asia to the west of Divine Wood Town on the coast to accept sea trade, hence they renovated the road from Divine Wood Town to the port city. From high above, one could faintly discern the contours of the road.
Of course, the airboat wasn’t headed for the port city because even if it went there, it would be hopeless to travel to Xia Yue Island. Leaving from the ports of Ilanadale to Xia Yue Island would be foolish, lucky if the Wood Elves didn’t catch them in the act.
Hence, Luo’er’s plan was to find a Blaiqi merchant ship along the coast to carry them to Xia Yue Island. The Blaiqi people wandered everywhere in business; nobody liked them, but nobody rejected them either. From nobles to commoners, they could strike up a conversation with anyone.
However, Luo’er didn’t need to worry about transportation as headquarters had already arranged for them. Once they reached the coast, a Blaiqi merchant ship would come to take them to Xia Yue Island.
Truly, even without considering the Blaiqi, they needn’t worry about a lack of ships; the trade to and from Xia Yue Island was booming. Except for Ilanadale, the surrounding countries, such as the Ancient States or Ilanadale’s neighbor Lene, all had trade with Xia Yue Island. Even if they didn’t run into Blaiqi, they could find an opportunity to go to Xia Yue Island.
Now, with Ilanadale building the port city of New Asia on the border, it was clear they coveted the profits of the maritime trade, wishing to take a share. This was also a sign of Ilanadale moving from isolation to openness, but it remained to be seen whether they could set aside their prejudice and trade with the Night Elves.
The conflict between the Wood Elves and the Night Elves was primarily religious, with deeper underlying ideological differences. The Wood Elves were slowly opening up, and as Luo’er and his team were here to resolve the religious conflicts, it was uncertain if the Wood Elves could set aside their prejudices and reach a consensus with the Night Elves, thereby turning the straits into thoroughfares.
The airboat continued flying for three days and nights and finally reached the seashore at midday on the fourth day. Unlike the Northern coast eroded by glaciers, the Southern coast was absolutely beautiful, a very appropriate tourist destination.
The airboat slowly landed on a stretch of sand, then let down the members of the Advance Team. For this mission, Luo’er had streamlined the personnel to the utmost extent. Aside from the five members of the Advance Team and Fulajie’er, there was only one guide, Talis.
Not bringing Feng meant leaving behind half his fighting strength at home, but there was no helping it, Feng’s magic had been sealed, disabling him from wielding magic. Following them would only mean excessive danger; it was better to return home for treatment.
In the distance, a merchant ship was moored in the shallow sea, presumably the transportation arranged by headquarters.
After Luo’er and his group finished preparing, they said their goodbyes to the others and disembarked from the airboat one by one. From afar, the merchant ship sent out a smaller boat towards the shore, ready to pick up the group.
Luo’er saw a familiar figure standing at the prow of the small boat. As soon as the boat reached the shore, the person hurriedly clambered down as if impatient to disembark, and ran excitedly towards Luo’er.
"Captain Luo’er, gentlemen, long time no see, long time no see!" The newcomer called out excitedly; it was Wadulan, who had previously transported them from Snow Domain to Blue Bay.
"Ha, it’s you?" Luo’er was both surprised and delighted.
"Yes, it’s me! I told you, you should have come south with me directly. I guess we’re quite fated, huh!" Wadulan clapped Luo’er on the shoulder and gave him an excited bear hug.
"I thought you continued on to the Snow Domain," Luo’er said, pushing him away with difficulty and asking in surprise.
"Ah, when I took you to Blue Bay, wasn’t it just when the fleet was heading south? I figured there wasn’t much to gain up north, so I took some goods and followed them southward. Just as I arrived here, I got a task from the trading company. I never expected it to be from you guys. Ah, lucky, so lucky!" Wadulan said, grinning from ear to ear.
"You guys are pretty fast," Luo’er remarked.
If he remembered correctly, going from Blue Bay to the south meant having to go around the Kabarguru Peninsula. He hadn’t expected they would arrive so quickly. Their speed was no slower than an airboat’s. Or, to put it another way, the speed of this airboat wasn’t really anything exceptional; it was just a ship that traveled over land, after all.
"Ah, since I’ve seen you, whatever you want to do, there’s no need to say it. Let’s go, we’ll board the ship. I happen to be heading to Xia Yue Island as well," Wadulan said, patting Luo’er’s shoulder.
"Is it just a coincidence or did you decide it was a coincidence after seeing us?" Cheng Ziang teased.
"Eh, coincidence, just a coincidence, really just a coincidence!" Wadulan chuckled.
"Hmm, Luo’er, do you know each other?" Li Si walked to the door of the airboat and asked, looking at the people on the beach.
"Oh, let me introduce him. This is Captain Wadulan. He was the one who brought us from the Snow Domain to Blue Bay," Luo’er explained.
"Thank you for your assistance, Captain Wadulan," Li Si said, giving a slight bow.
"Oh, no, no, no, it was nothing, just a trifle," Wadulan responded, flustered, and waved his hands dismissively. Then, he cautiously asked, "May I know how to address you?"
"Oh, I’m Li Si, from Earth, working in Yazhi City," Li Si introduced himself briefly.
"Oh, Lord Li Si, hello, hello," Wadulan said respectfully.
"Ha, no need for such formality, just call me Li Si," Li Si said, gesturing with his hand.
"Alright, Mr. Li Si," Wadulan nodded earnestly.
"Ah, I was originally worried about you, but now that I see you have an acquaintance with you, I can rest easy," Li Si said, looking at Luo’er with a smile.
"That’s why I say, making good connections like Luo’er is the best way to travel the world," Cheng Ziang said to Hu Daoke.
"You can go back with peace of mind. Mr. Wadulan will take us to Xia Yue Island," Luo’er said, gesturing to Li Si.
"Alright then, stay safe!" Li Si nodded, not lingering too much, let the crew close the door, and then the airboat began to ascend slowly.
"Ah, when will I be able to buy an airboat like this," Wadulan lamented, looking up at the gently rising airboat.
"Is it because you can’t afford it or because you don’t have the connections?" Luo’er asked him.
"Heh, a bit of both..." Wadulan averted his gaze, smiling bitterly.
"Let’s go, Captain. Earn more money, and one day you’ll be able to afford it," Hu Daoke said, patting his shoulder and then turning to walk toward the small boat.
"I’ll take your good word for it," Wadulan nodded and then, after greeting the remaining people, led them onto his ship, the ’Riding the Wind and Waves’.
Luo’er had never thought that he would set foot on this ship again. Standing on the deck, he felt an inexplicable sense of melancholy. He looked towards the western coast, where, hundreds of kilometers from the shore, lay the mysterious Xia Yue Island. The land that had always been, and still was, a forbidden place for the Wood Elves.
