Chapter 1068: Chapter 1061: Li Si Visits
Four days later, a huge commercial airboat flew over Meila Village and landed on the open ground outside the village. The arrival of this massive airship caught the attention of the villagers, not only the Sub-beastmen but also the Wolfman Clan was visibly excited.
The airboat did not land on the ground but hovered one meter above it before lowering the staircase to connect with the ground.
As mentioned before, to dock means to turn off the anti-gravity engine, and without a waterbody to anchor in, the weight of the airboat itself would crush its hull. Therefore, unless there is a suitable body of water or docking station, the airboat will never land on the ground in principle.
This time accompanying the airboat was Li Si. As he descended, he saw Luo’er waiting to greet him, and immediately felt a surge of excitement and embraced Luo’er.
"Brother Li, you’ve worked hard!" Luo’er patted his back and greeted him with a smile.
"You little rascal, always coming up with these new surprises," Li Si said, narrowing his eyes.
For some reason, whenever he saw Luo’er’s gentle smile, he would feel his heart skip a beat inexplicably. He had heard that Luo’er was renowned as the ’campus beauty’ at Haiya Academy, not as a joke but because he truly possessed such charm.
Although Haiya Academy had seen an increase in Elf Race mixed bloods in recent years, no one could match Luo’er’s level, not even Luoya who had just entered the academy could cause such a stir.
In terms of appearance, Luo’er and his siblings were not much stronger than other Elf Race mixed bloods, since a major characteristic of the Elf Race is their uniform beauty where almost all elves are of similar grace and beauty.
What attracted people to Luo’er was his unique temperament.
Luo’er had the liveliness and elegance of an Elf, combined with the gentleness and tranquility of the East Asian Ethnicity. Additionally, due to his childhood experiences, there was also a hint of melancholic temperament about him, which made people sympathize with him involuntarily.
Although Luo’er tried hard to show a side of resilience and determination, everyone who saw him for the first time couldn’t help being drawn to his unique aura.
As the saying goes, "It begins with looks, deepens with talent, and endures with character." For Tangmo, having Luo’er in her life was almost like using up all her luck for this lifetime.
"Sorry for always changing plans last minute, but things are really complicated here," Luo’er said apologetically after they parted.
"That’s all right, after all, you’re doing this for headquarters, and we’ve been actually worried about finding people to build Lipei," Li Si said, gesturing dismissively.
"About that, I proposed to headquarters to admit the Sub-beast Race, what did the higher-ups say?" Luo’er asked somewhat anxiously.
"Well, some are against it, others support it. But looking at the current situation, those who oppose are mostly targeting you, while those who support are looking at the bigger picture, so the majority are in favor," Li Si said, shaking his head.
"Against Luo’er, what’s there to oppose?" At this moment, Cheng Ziang came forward and after a high-five with Li Si, he asked in bewilderment.
"Why oppose, you guys know why, right? In the past few years, your Advance Team has not been short of violations, and the higher-ups have always had grievances against you," Li Si said, looking at Luo’er with a smiling eyes.
"We too did it for the organization..." Luo’er said with a hint of guilt.
"Even for the organization, you can’t break the rules. There have to be rules, right?" Li Si said.
"Everything changes in an instant, by the time you guys discuss the rules, the opportunity would have long passed. Violating rules, you wouldn’t even get to eat anything warm," Cheng Ziang said mockingly.
"That’s true, but can’t you use a less disgusting metaphor?" Li Si said, brushing his nose with gravity.
As he spoke, he looked towards the Sub-beastmen villagers hiding far on the perimeter wall, then shook his head and lamented, "Look, here are a few hundred more mouths to feed, headquarters is already overstretched, who can afford to sustain them..."
"Shouldn’t this fall under civil administration?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"That would be the case only after the Otherworld Gate in Lipei is opened. It hasn’t been opened yet, so all their food and drink are still on the headquarters’ tab," Li Si said.
"What exactly does the headquarters mean by this, do they care or not?" Ziang frowned and asked.
"Don’t be so hot-tempered," Li Si waved his hand and said, "Principally speaking, the headquarters definitely cares. After all, difficulties are temporary and the vision is long-term; we can’t abandon the whole for the part, becoming short-sighted just because of a lack of funds."
After a pause, he continued seriously, "Overall, the research departments do agree with Luo’er’s approach. If these people are confirmed to be immigrants from the East Continent, then when the headquarters eventually plans to expand eastward, these individuals will undoubtedly be the best means of involvement. Our Colonel Zhu has asked us to bring them back quickly; she wants to meticulously study their customs, language, and their unique forms of magic."
"Uh, well, Brother Li, when you guys arrived, we found another group from the Sub-beast Race. I should have already reported this to the headquarters, look at this..." Luo’er hesitated, looking towards the wall.
"I knew you wouldn’t make it easy for us," Li Si sighed and then turned to look at the wall. Upon seeing those with beastly heads from the Wolfman Clan, he couldn’t help but shake his head, then showed a look of admiration, "I heard you personally went into the Wolfman Clan’s village and led these people out. You really are brave."
"You flatter me," Luo’er smiled, and then modestly said, "I just feel that they, too, are a part worth saving."
Li Si turned around, squinting his eyes at the villagers from the Sub-beast Race, his gaze sweeping over the Bunny-Ears Tribe and the Wolfman Clan, then smiling and shaking his head, "To be honest, I really admire you. If I came across these Wolfman Clan, I would definitely see them as Beastmen, savage and uncivilized. I never expected that you could calmly communicate and even persuade them to leave the valley and join Lipei’s development. You truly are courageous."
This was a heartfelt compliment from Li Si, as he genuinely admired Luo’er’s unique quality of not judging by appearances. The Wolfman Clan didn’t blend into the Western Continent not because they didn’t want to, but because external factors limited their integration. Luo’er was likely one of the few who didn’t judge them based on their appearance but earnestly assessed their value.
After pondering for a moment, he turned back to Luo’er and then asked, "I heard that you brought back a talent to the headquarters on this trip, is that right?"
"Yes, Axia, a Snow Elf Mage, who has participated in the Otherworld War," Luo’er nodded and said.
"Another girl..." Li Si revealed a teasing smile.
"Uh, this..." Luo’er lowered his head, showing an embarrassed look.
"What girl, she’s hundreds of years old; she should be called an old woman," Ziang said.
"You’re just picking on her because she doesn’t understand Chinese..." Li Si glanced at Axia nearby, shaking his head helplessly.
"Hey, Brother Li, my master, he’s alright, isn’t he?" Ziang tugged at Li Si’s sleeve, looking around before lowering his voice to ask.
"Shouldn’t you call him ’Dad’?" Li Si looked at him and asked.
"Ah, call him whatever, how is he doing?" Ziang pressed impatiently.
"He’s out on a mission," Li Si responded.
"They still let him go on missions?" Ziang frowned, his expression clearly displeased.
"Don’t look like that, making it seem like we forced him into it. As they say, the sky is high for fish to leap, the ocean vast for birds to soar. Our temple here is too small to contain such a grand Buddha. He’s been clamoring to leave for some days now; no one can keep him," Li Si shrugged and said.
"Alright, that’s just his nature," Ziang coughed awkwardly and then continued, "So, what mission did they give him?"
"A distant assignment. They’ve sent him south, to keep him from coming back and bothering us," Li Si said.
"Ah..." Upon hearing this, Ziang sighed deeply, the thought of not seeing Yalunte upon returning weighing on his breath.
"Stop sighing, once you’re transferred inwards, you’ll have plenty of time together," Li Si patted his shoulder and said.
"Transferred inwards?" Ziang paused briefly, then turned to look at Luo’er, who also appeared puzzled.
"What exactly is going on, are you really having us return?" Ziang pressed.
