Chapter 1055: Chapter 1048: Wolfman Clan Elder
After a brief moment of panic, Luo’er took a deep breath, and his expression soon calmed down. Taran stood by his side, fearfully clutching his sleeve, while Luo’er gently patted the back of his hand to offer comfort.
One couldn’t blame the Advance Team for being so terrified, because the Wolfman indeed looked quite frightening.
The facial features of the Wolfman Clan are distinctive, generally with white fur around the face and black fur on the rest of the body, including around the nose.
Females differed from males in that they had more white fur on their faces, but the difference wasn’t significant. To discern their gender, one would have to focus on the curves of their chests, as determining by their faces was definitely challenging.
Besides his imposing stature, this Wolfman had white fur across his nose and a few tufts of beard-like hair on his chin.
Two prominent scars crossed his right eye diagonally from top to bottom, adding a fierce appearance to his face.
His clothing was distinctive—made of hemp, comprising multiple layers, each layer featuring different patterns and styles, likely embodying the fashion of his tribe.
Whether due to his height or his age, Luo’er noticed the Wolfman seemed somewhat hunched over. So, when he approached with a stooped posture, everyone felt as if a giant wolf were approaching them.
As Luo’er sized him up, the other was also scrutinizing Luo’er. At the sight of Luo’er’s hair, his eyebrows furrowed significantly but soon relaxed.
During this process, the Wolfman frowned and relaxed his brows several times, leaving everyone on edge, unable to figure out what he was thinking.
"You must be their elder. My name is Luo’er," said Luo’er as the Wolfman continued to observe him, deciding to take the initiative, "I apologize for intruding without permission."
Speaking thus, Luo’er bowed slightly, demonstrating his respect to the fullest extent.
The Wolfman seemed pleased with Luo’er’s demeanor, appreciating his propriety during their first meeting, which made him form an initial favorable impression.
"No, since you are guests, you shouldn’t say such things. We warmly welcome kind visitors to our village." A broad smile spread across the Wolfman elder’s face, revealing sharp fangs, after hearing Taran’s shaky translation.
"May I know how the elder is addressed?" Luo’er asked, seizing the moment.
After hearing Taran’s translation, the Wolfman elder pondered for a moment, then uttered two syllables. Taran did not understand and hence froze, failing to translate for Luo’er.
"What did he say?" Luo’er asked, looking at Taran.
"I don’t recognize these words..." said Taran innocently.
"It must be his name," muttered Luo’er, then paused briefly before attempting to pronounce it, "Tu...Tu Xiu? Let’s call him Tu Xiu."
"Elder Tu Xiu, I am very pleased that you could spare time to meet with us amidst your busy schedule," Luo’er continued with an easy-going smile after a short hesitation.
"Mr. Luo’er is too polite," Tu Xiu once again revealed a toothy smile and asked cautiously, "May I know the purpose of Mr. Luo’er’s visit to our village?"
The term ’Mister’ was Taran’s translation choice; in the Tasta language, Mister is a softer version of the term for ’Sir,’ used to denote someone of equal or slightly lower stature.
For example, if someone from Otherworld highly respected Luo’er, they would address him as ’Sir Luo’er.’ If the respect was more casual, they would use ’Mr. Luo’er,’ which essentially conveyed similar respect.
"Oh, we heard a legend about someone riding a giant beast who came from a distant continent. We followed this clue and found our way to your village. That skeleton over there, is that the legendary beast?" Luo’er said, turning his head toward the distant skeleton.
"What exactly do you want?" Tu Xiu’s eyes sharpened immediately in response to Luo’er’s answer.
"Please, there’s no ill intent," Luo’er waved his hand, smiling, "We are merely curious and wanted to explore a bit."
"Who exactly are you?" Tu Xiu asked unswervingly.
"Sir, have you ever heard of the people from the Otherworld?" Luo’er asked.
"The Otherworlders, could it be, you..." Elder Tu Xiu squinted his eyes, staring at Luo’er and the other members of the Advance Team.
"It seems, although you have lived in the mountains for a long time, you are not isolated from news," Luo’er said with a smile.
You should know that the war with the Otherworld had ended less than forty years ago, which means, contact between Earthlings and Otherworlders had only been for about thirty years. Moreover, with few channels for news transmission in the Otherworld, the fact that someone from such a secluded place knew about the existence of Earthlings was truly surprising to Luo’er.
"It’s nothing strange. The Blaiqi merchants who come to the village have mentioned things from the outside," Tu Xiu said indifferently.
"Blaiqi... the Blaiqi people?" Luo’er paused for a moment, realizing that this might have been a slip of the tongue or an accent issue on Tu Xiu’s part.
In the Otherworld, whenever merchants were mentioned, one term would involuntarily come to everyone’s mind, the Blaiqi people, who had practically become synonymous with merchants.
"These Blaiqi merchants, they really are incredible," Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but shake his head and mutter.
Before this, he had only known that the Blaiqi merchants’ footsteps covered every corner of the Continent, from Luscaque in the north to the City of Stars in the south, but he had not expected that even this seemingly isolated village had traces of the Blaiqi people. This fact alone filled Cheng Ziang with admiration.
From this, everyone could discern something, that despite seeming like a Shangri-La, this Wolfman village actually maintained contact with the outside world. They intentionally concealed their traces, which made it appear as though they were cut off from the rest of the world.
"Since Elder Tu Xiu has heard of it, then I won’t waste any more time. I am Luo’er, from Earth, what you refer to as the Otherworld," Luo’er introduced himself again.
Elder Tu Xiu stared at Luo’er, and eventually couldn’t help but ask, "The Otherworld, are there also people with black hair?"
"Of course," Luo’er paused for a moment, then nodded and said, "There definitely are people with black hair in the Otherworld. Why do you ask, Elder Tu Xiu?"
"You should leave, and don’t come back again, nor tell anyone else about our whereabouts," Tu Xiu’s next move left Luo’er greatly puzzled.
He sighed deeply, then waved his hand and turned away, no longer paying attention to everyone.
"Why, have I done something wrong?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"Stop asking and leave quickly," Tu Xiu said with some impatience.
"I hope Elder Tu Xiu can explain himself; otherwise, I truly cannot be at peace," Luo’er looked somewhat displeased as well.
"Just leave quickly, or don’t blame us for being rude," Tu Xiu suddenly swung his hand sharply, and the surrounding Wolfmen immediately surrounded everyone, leaving no way out.
Facing such a perilous situation, the members of the Advance Team did not panic, instead, they readied their rifles and aimed at the surrounding Wolfmen, preparing for the worst.
"To drive a guest out, is this the hospitality of Elder Tu Xiu?" Luo’er looked around, gently patted Taran’s head to console him, and then stared at Tu Xiu with a cold laugh and asked.
Hearing the trembling translation of Taran, Tu Xiu did not waver. He seemed to take Taran’s frail tone as Luo’er’s, thus mistaking Luo’er for being panicked, but actually, Luo’er was very calm at that moment.
"Elder Tu Xiu is only three steps away from me. There is a saying, ’throwing a rat to save the vase.’ If a conflict truly arises, does the Elder think he can escape my threat?" Luo’er said, emotionless, with a threatening implication.
"You think you can threaten me?" Upon hearing Luo’er’s threat, Tu Xiu couldn’t help but laugh, then turned around and looked at Luo’er mockingly.
However, just as he turned around, Luo’er raised his pistol and aimed at Tu Xiu’s forehead.
"Despite the big difference in our sizes, if we engage in close combat, I certainly wouldn’t stand a chance against you, Elder. But don’t think that I have no other options. If it really comes down to life and death, I am confident I can take the Elder with me," Luo’er said coldly, pointing his gun at Tu Xiu’s forehead.
