Chapter 1040: Chapter 1333: Feigning Retreat to Advance

After firing the gun, Luo’er rubbed his nearly-burst eardrums and then shook his head calmly and said, "I’ve never been fond of interrogation. Honestly, if you people just confessed honestly, there wouldn’t be so much trouble. Why make it hard on yourself? We just want to get what we want. We don’t like to torture people—it’s too cruel, and it keeps us up at night."

"Bastards..." The man, body bent, cursed through clenched teeth. Newly healed wounds had reopened, and his already fragile body simply couldn’t bear the pain of being torn apart.

After firing one shot, Luo’er pointed the muzzle upward, squinting at the man as he continued, "I’ll give you one more chance and reiterate, if you comply honestly, we’ll let you go. My word is my bond."

"Go to hell, you alien bastards. If you want my forgiveness, then kill all the remnants immediately and return the lady to me. Then I might consider giving you a grave, rather than leaving your bodies in the wilderness!" The man still spat the words with clenched teeth.

"You really won’t cry until you see the coffin..." Seeing his frantic irritation, Luo’er didn’t get angry; instead, he was amusingly provoked to laughter.

"You can’t defeat me fairly, so you resort to these filthy tactics, using hidden weapons to attack me, despicable, shameless!!" the man shouted loudly.

Hearing this, Luo’er lowered his head to inspect the handgun in his hand, gently rubbing the polymer matte finish with his fingertips, and smiled, "This is technological progress, not a dirty trick. Of course, explaining this to you is pointless, as you wouldn’t understand. I’m merely curious, isn’t defeating your enemies by any means necessary the way it goes? Or should we still talk to our enemies about so-called righteousness?"

"In our country, courtesy is paramount. How would you rough, foreign barbarians understand the importance of righteousness, huh..." The man said with a contorted expression.

"It seems that people from the West Continent, due to the influence of Earth, have become utterly corrupted, acting completely without righteousness. Firearms are everywhere on Earth," Ziang couldn’t help but sneer.

Luo’er looked up at him briefly, then turned his head back and continued, "No need to change the subject, let’s get back to the matter at hand. What exactly did you do to your young lady to relieve her pain? Confess honestly, and I’ll let you go, and I won’t break my word."

"For such a thing, shouldn’t you be begging me? Come on, beg me," the man said with a provoking smirk.

Facing the man’s sarcasm, Luo’er took a deep breath, and while he didn’t immediately lose his temper, he looked at the handgun in his hands and calmly said, "You’ve already lost two arms and one leg. Do you not care to keep the last one?"

"You destroyed my Qitian, broke my Tongfa, even if you let me go, I’d be nothing but a cripple. In that case, you might as well kill me," the man glared at Luo’er and said.

"I said, I don’t like killing. That was also because you provoked us first that we had to retaliate unwillingly. Don’t pretend you’re so righteous or so pitiful. I’ll say it again, just confess, and I won’t kill you. I’ll let you go," Luo’er said.

"You wouldn’t dare kill me, would you?" the man leaned forward with his body, looking at Luo’er with a bizarre expression and a mocking sneer, "If I die, no one will know how to relieve the young lady’s pain."

Luo’er took a deep breath, and though still considerably irritated, he managed to force a smile, a hollow, joyless one, and said, "You don’t really think I wouldn’t dare to kill you, do you?"

"I bet you wouldn’t dare!" the man glared, his expression fierce.

"Looks like we’ve met a tough one. Truly, the horizontal ones fear nothing. Seems like negotiation is unlikely," noticing Luo’er’s rising anger, Ziang timely spoke up, easing Luo’er’s mood so he didn’t burst out immediately.

"What are you trying to say?" Luo’er raised his head and asked.

"Man has three legs; see, he still has two left. That should make him comply," Ziang shrugged his shoulders, wearing a mischievous smile.

Hearing this, Luo’er looked down in thought for a moment, then raised the handgun towards the man, but quickly lowered it again, frowning, "Are we being too eager for quick results?"

"What do you mean, Feng still needs treatment," Ziang said.

"If he can harm Feng, he can also use us to harm Feng, can’t he?" Luo’er said.

"That’s a good point," Ziang nodded.

The conversation between the two was in Chinese, and since the man could not understand them, he feared they were plotting against him. Thus, he began to shout agitatedly in the language of the East Continent, likely nothing pleasant.

"Since Feng’s life is not in danger, we might as well test his patience and think it over carefully. If he is not dead by the time the airboat arrives, we should take him back to our base for research," Luo’er said.

"You’re not concocting some rotten scheme, are you?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking at him.

"Well, I was thinking, maybe we could let Fulajie’er interfere with him. Our old rival at the Central Intelligence Bureau loves to use fatigue interrogation, continuously, at high frequencies, to interrogate him without letting him rest, thereby breaking his psychological defenses," Luo’er said, looking up.

"Hmm, think about it carefully, it’s not such a rotten idea," Cheng Ziang nodded in approval and continued, "This guy, you can tell at first glance, is typically stubborn. Even if we were to flay him alive, I doubt he would waver. It might be better to use some more insidious methods."

"He has cultivated to such a degree, his mind must also be very firm," Luo’er stared at the man and sighed, "For someone as resolute as him, torture is likely meaningless. It’s just a waste of our energy. Rather, we should use more flexible methods to try and extract some valuable information from him."

"It looks like we might just have to employ your personal little secretary, Xiao Fula," Cheng Ziang said with a sly grin.

"Don’t talk nonsense, what personal secretary..." Luo’er waved his hand, looking somewhat embarrassed.

"What’s a secretary?" Just then, Fulajie’er’s voice suddenly rang in their minds.

"It’s like a personal little maid, the kind who does everything," Cheng Ziang explained.

"Ah, I can do that!" Fulajie’er said excitedly.

"Oh no, don’t teach Fula bad things. Let’s go out; this guy is a bit noisy." Luo’er waved his hand, tucked his pistol away, and then stood up and turned toward the door.

Behind them, the man continued to swear loudly in agitation, but since Luo’er and his companion could not understand him, they simply ignored him and did not pay much attention to him. They walked out of the warehouse, and after a while, the man tired from cursing, and his voice gradually quieted down.

"Keep a close watch on him, make sure you only attend to his eating and drinking and ignore anything he says. Also, don’t get too close to him; this guy is dangerous!" Upon stepping out of the warehouse, Luo’er patted a Rabbit-Ear Tribe militiaman on the shoulder and instructed.

The young man, adorned with long, fuzzy ears that made him stand out since most people in the village didn’t fold up their ears under hats, caught Luo’er’s interest. Luo’er hesitated several times before finally refraining from rubbing the man’s head and settled for placing his hand on his shoulder.

"Oh, I got it!" The militiaman nodded vigorously, blinking.

"That’s good..." Luo’er smiled and nodded, eventually could not resist touching the militiaman’s erect rabbit ears.

"His sword is quite fine, though," Cheng Ziang remarked, admiring the man’s longsword.

"Since that’s the case, keep it for now, and we’ll decide whether to turn it in when we get back to the base," Luo’er said.

"Hehe, I knew you would say that," A triumphant smile spread across Cheng Ziang’s face.

"Fula," Luo’er softly called out.

"I’m here!" Fulajie’er’s voice came through their minds.

"I have a task for you. You’re responsible for harassing that guy. Use whatever method you want, try to extract from him the method to treat Feng. Of course, don’t do it too frequently; try to disturb him when he’s about to sleep, that will double the results," Luo’er instructed.
