Chapter 1007: Chapter 1000: A Temporary Resting Place

Hearing Hu Daoke’s words, Axia suddenly burst into a giggle beside him, and then quickly buried her face into Eve’s embrace.

"Eh, did I say something wrong?" Hu Daoke asked, looking utterly confused.

"The little girls of the Elf Race can’t even walk yet. The young girls you saw on the street are all old grandmas of a hundred or two hundred years old." Eve maintained a straight face, barely holding back her laughter as she explained.

"Oh, right," Hu Daoke said, as if he had just had an epiphany.

"That’s not quite right," Cheng Ziang clapped him on the shoulder and said, "You can’t just look at the actual lifespan of Elves, you have to consider their apparent age. Generally speaking, a two hundred-year-old Elf has the physical maturity of a twenty-year-old from the Human Race, so we can also take it that those two hundred-year-old Elves are really just twenty years old. If we were to measure by human age, then Luo’er and his sister wouldn’t have even been born."

Cheng Ziang’s statement actually aligned with most Earthlings’ views of Elves, focusing solely on apparent age or making age conversions. Normally, it’s understood that Humans age one year per year, while Elves age one year every ten years, which makes calculations much easier.

For example, human females generally reach menopause around the age of fifty or sixty and essentially lose the ability to reproduce, while at that age, an Elf would only appear five or six years old. If Elf girls became infertile at five or six years old, then the Elf Race would truly be without hope.

So, if we go by the ten-years-equals-one-year theory, then Luo’er’s mother, Nina, wasn’t even of legal marriageable age when she conceived Luo’er because she was only around a hundred seventy years old, which is just the age of maturity by the ten-year standard.

Of course, that’s the age criterion for Elves. When it comes to Half-elves, the situation changes. Half-elves mature much faster, but their lifespan is nearly the same as that of the Elves.

You could say that Half-elves are a perfect advanced life form that takes the best of both traits, discarding the shortcomings of each. Luo’er will come of age at roughly thirty years old. Although it’s twice as long as the Human Race, compared to Elves, the time is cut down by more than just a factor of two.

"Ah, now that you’ve put it that way, I’m somewhat reluctant to leave," Hu Daoke said with a cheeky grin.

"Good grief, why don’t you just marry into this place," Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes and ignored him thereafter.

"Hmm, it looks like we also need to solve the issue of the boat," Luo’er nodded and then said to everyone, "Let’s find an inn to stay first. There’s no rush to discuss plans, and it’s not comfortable for everyone to stay out here in this freezing cold."

"Got any ideas?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Well, I’ll see if I can get some conveniences from an informant; if not, I’ll have headquarters communicate. They already know we’ve obtained the Ancestors’ Holy Book and the Prime Fluid, and they are probably even more anxious than we are," Luo’er said.

"Right, that’s the way to do it. Let headquarters handle the tough stuff, don’t let us figure everything out on our own, we’re not omnipotent," Cheng Ziang nodded in approval.

"All right, no more complaining. After we settle down later, we’ll communicate with headquarters first, then you’ll come with me to find that informant," Luo’er said.

"Okay!" Cheng Ziang nodded emphatically.

After that, the group, led by Axia, found an inn near the port. Unlike other hotels, this one was run by Snow Elves, not Blaiqi people.

The innkeeper was a charming Snow Elf woman. Although she looked old, her face had few wrinkles, and it was her demeanor that gave the impression she was fully mature.

Upon seeing the group, the innkeeper’s face clearly showed surprise, but thankfully Axia stepped forward to negotiate, dispelling the innkeeper’s doubts.

The inn’s lobby doubled as a restaurant, and the innkeeper’s two beautiful daughters were acting as waitresses, dressed in black and white maid outfits, wearing thick grey stockings. Paired with their stunning features and heart-stopping white silver hair, Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang couldn’t take their eyes off them for a good while.

It’s said that the idea of the maid outfit came from the visiting Blaiqi people, who learned it from Earthlings. Though they didn’t like the Blaiqi people calling themselves the new Earthlings very much, they were quite pleased with the spread of this strange custom. Good things should be shared between both worlds.

Naturally, Luo’er did not stare; he didn’t even lift his head, not because he was a gentleman. He knew that if his eyes wandered, he would surely end up on the receiving end of a lecture.

"Sir, here’s the menu, please take a look," the Snow Elf waitress placed the menu on the table with an expressionless face. Her voice was as cold as her demeanor, yet it carried a unique charm.

She spoke in fluent Tasta rather than Elvish, which was understandable. After all, the port area was predominantly populated by Blaiqi people, and as a waitress, it was natural to be proficient in this common language of the Human Race.

"Raw fish slices... Wow, sashimi? Looks like this place has a Japanese chef," Hu Daoke exclaimed with surprise.

"Keep your voice down. Do you know how embarrassing you are?" Cheng Ziang said cleverly, flashing a smile at the waitress.

"What’s sea roe?" asked Hu Daoke.

"Fish eggs!" Cheng Ziang replied, feeling a bit ignored and sullen.

"That’s kind of exotic, isn’t there any other meat? Is there only fish?" Hu Daoke asked with difficulty.

"With all this snow sealing off the mountains, where would you find meat? Take it or leave it. Look, you’re making the young lady anxious," Cheng Ziang said, rolling his eyes.

"What kind of attitude is that? You act as if you own the place, what a poseur!" Hu Daoke retorted without any politeness.

"All right, all right, I’ll order." Luo’er sighed, took the menu to stop the two who seemed ready to fight, made a random selection, and then handed it back to the Snow Elf waitress.

As he handed over the menu, Luo’er locked eyes with the Snow Elf waitress and noticed she seemed to have been sizing him up all along. When she met Luo’er’s gaze, she became a bit flustered, quickly looked away, and hurried off with the menu.

"Luo’er..." Luo’er had just turned his head when he heard Tangmo’s resentful voice.

"What’s the matter? I was just placing an order, I didn’t flirt with her," said Luo’er with a wry smile.

"I always feel these girls have ulterior motives around you. Really, what kind of charm do you possess that always attracts their attention?" Tangmo pouted.

"I also find it strange why someone is always worried about me, always jealous," Luo’er said, shaking his head in bewilderment and smiling helplessly.

"Because I’m silly," Tangmo said, squinting and smiling contentedly.

"I, I’m also silly!" Baiyue said quickly, sensing a dangerous vibe, trying to get a word in.

"Sigh, let’s not compete over such matters, there’s nothing to compete for." Luo’er covered his face and sighed.

"Speaking of serious matters," Cheng Ziang coughed and then said, "Luo’er, what should we do if there really are no ships to take us back?"

"If it comes to that, we’ll just have to deploy an airboat," Luo’er shrugged, "I believe the headquarters are well aware of the importance of the Ancestors’ Holy Book and Prime Fluid. For Lin Wei, as long as he achieves his goals, he will definitely do it at any cost. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have faced protests from the other brother forces for spending so much money."

"So, you think that no matter what, we’ll either leave Snow Domain by ship or by airboat?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Exactly," Luo’er nodded, "As long as we want to come back, headquarters will either rent an airboat or directly order the Ronisca Air Fleet to come to our aid. No matter which method, we can leave here as soon as possible."

"Directly commanding the Ronisca Air Fleet is a bit too..." Cheng Ziang hesitated.

"Do you think Ronisca can still stand on equal footing with headquarters?" Luo’er said, laughing and shaking his head before he continued, "Ever since Mu Lansi died, Mooer has been in control of the entire Ronisca. Now they have no reason to make trouble and can only maintain their Influence at headquarters, hoping not to fall from the top tier of cooperation."
