Chapter 1006 - 999: Handling the Goods
Chapter 1006: Chapter 999: Handling the Goods
A group of people dismounted from their horses and carriages, and immediately Luo’er began issuing commands to each member: "Little Ke, take the spoils we’ve captured to the vendors and handle them."
"Yes sir!" Hu Daoke nodded. As a firearms enthusiast, he wouldn’t be easily deceived when it came to selling guns.
"Ziang, you and Moumou go contact the merchant ships and try to find one that’s returning to Blue Bay today," Luo’er continued to order.
"Understood," Cheng Ziang nodded.
"Yue’er and Feng, follow me to the liaison office to get in touch with our informant here. Everyone else, wait here," Luo’er went on.
"Okay!" Baiyue seemed very excited to be able to accompany Luo’er.
"Good, whether you’ve finished or not, everyone must return here to regroup within two hours. Is that clear?" Luo’er asked after glancing at his pocket watch.
"Understood!" everyone answered in unison.
The reason Luo’er had Cheng Ziang contact the merchant ships and went to meet with the liaison office himself had its own reasoning.
Because Luo’er was of mixed Elf blood, as mentioned before, those of mixed Elf heritage are subject to discrimination both among the Elf Race and the Human Race. Thus, if Luo’er, as captain, were to personally contact the merchant ships, he would certainly face such troubles.
However, it was different with the liaison office. Before the Advance Team entered Otherworld, the headquarters had spent almost thirty years establishing tight connections with the Blaiqi merchants. These Blaiqi merchants had branches all over the world and could provide support to the Advance Team.
If Luo’er approached these informants, they would naturally know he was from Earth, and they would not make things difficult for him. It is important to note that the Blaiqi people held Earthlings in the highest esteem, and even though Luo’er was of mixed Elf and Earthling blood, as long as he was from Earth, he would be respected by them.
Hu Daoke, carrying a large bundle of firearms, arrived at a weapons shop by the docks and brutally threw the bundle onto the ground before loudly saying to the stunned Blaiqi shop owner, "Owner, take a look at the quality of these goods!"
Weapon shops in Otherworld mostly did buybacks of weapons, and although they primarily dealt with melee weapons, they were more interested in firearms.
After an initial surprise, the owner began inspecting Hu Daoke’s goods. Following a brief assessment, the owner squinted his eyes and shook his head, "The quality isn’t great, I usually don’t buy these. If you insist on selling them, I can reluctantly take them off your hands, but the price..."
"Do you understand guns?" Hu Daoke immediately laughed at the owner’s remark, crouched down, picked up an FAL rifle, gave it a quick look, and couldn’t help but ask.
"Of course, I do," the owner nodded, then disdainfully kicked the guns at his feet, shaking his head, "Refurbished goods, old and worn guns refurbished by Earthlings and sent over. The rifling is worn down flat, who knows where you got these from."
"Picked them up in the field," said Hu Daoke.
"Doesn’t matter," the owner shrugged, then kicked the guns at his feet once more, "These aren’t worth much. I’ll give you a disposal price, one gold coin each, how about that?"
"Why don’t you just rob me?" Hu Daoke exclaimed.
It’s worth noting that Otherworld was rich in gold, such that gold coins were the base currency in circulation, with silver coins being used less frequently. When the Otherworld Gate connected to Earth, the gold produced in Otherworld once caused the price of gold on Earth to plummet.
Therefore, despite being a single gold coin, in Earth’s currency, it was hardly worth anything. It was clear the owner was looking to buy by weight.
"The way you’re talking, this is already a fair price. Past my shop, you won’t get this deal. If you’re not satisfied, try another shop!" the owner said impatiently.
"Refurbished goods?" Hu Daoke’s eyes widened as he pointed to a row of numbers on the gun, "See this row of digits? Produced in the Earth year 2047, these are new goods. And you’re telling me they’re refurbished. You also said the rifling is worn down, do you even know which two it is?"
"Uh, this..." The boss felt somewhat embarrassed after his intentions had been exposed, but he didn’t dare to erupt given Hu Daoke’s imposing stature.
"Don’t try to fool me, I know more about guns than you do, what are you pretending for," Hu Daoke waved his hand and said, "I’m mainly here to deal with this batch of goods, not to make money. Just give me a reasonable price and it’s done. One gold coin per gun, you’ve got some nerve."
"So, what price do you suggest?" the boss asked with a twitching face, full of embarrassment.
"One-fifth of the selling price will do, I’m not demanding too much, after all, I couldn’t carry more if you gave it," Hu Daoke said, gesturing with his hands.
"This," the boss said, looking troubled, "In such a poor place, there’s not much of a market for firearms, if I accept your price, I’d have to sit on it for a long time before I break even."
"Heh, boss, do you think I’m both deaf and blind?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.
"No, no, that’s not what I meant, don’t get me wrong," the boss said, waving his hands.
"When I entered the city, I took a look at the weapons of the Snow Elves sentries, mostly old stuff. My goods are more advanced than what they have, and you’re telling me you can’t sell them? Who are you trying to deceive?" Hu Daoke shook his head as he spoke.
"This, this..." the boss found himself at a loss for words.
"I might not know other things, but I do know that the Snow Domain has never officially requested a military weapons order from Earth in their name, so they have to buy from merchants like you. You say your guns won’t sell, is it because they’re too crappy?" Hu Daoke said, glancing over the weapons in the boss’s shop.
Most of these weapons were cold weapons, and there were firearms too, but they were mostly old bolt-action rifles, and these rifles were truly refurbished goods, the kind that would be considered too heavy even to be used as fire pokers.
"Let’s talk nicely, let’s talk nicely," the boss, who thought he could make a killing, didn’t expect Hu Daoke to be so knowledgeable about firearms. He had crashed and burned on the spot.
"I won’t waste words with you, one-seventh, I can’t go any lower. I’m not here to make money, mainly to make a friend," Hu Daoke said, smiling amiably.
"Alright, alright, one-seventh it is, a fair price to make your acquaintance," the boss gladly accepted the offer giving him a way to retreat graciously.
"That’s more like it." Hu Daoke shrugged.
Of course, all this was just politeness. In a day or two, they would leave the Snow Domain and might never come back in this lifetime, so making friends didn’t really matter.
After dealing with the weapons, Hu Daoke returned to the original place with a bag of gold coins. Meanwhile, Axia and the others were waiting there.
Because of the cold weather, Talis, being a Night Elf, shivered nonstop, while Axia and Eve, the Snow Elves, seemed quite at home in these conditions and chatted comfortably.
Soon, other members who had scattered to take care of various tasks also returned one by one. Luo’er took care of the carriage issue, but Cheng Ziang did not fare so well.
"They say that although the sea has thawed, some routes are still close to the deep-sea areas, so they do not plan to sail, preferring to wait until the Snow Domain fully enters summer before resuming maritime transport," Cheng Ziang said with a shrug.
"Damn, weren’t there already ships coming and going?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help but ask.
"Those are the ones who are recklessly brave," Cheng Ziang shook his head, then continued, "About halfway through the snow Domain route, there’s an approximately three-kilometer area that’s extremely dangerous. The coastline here extends less than a hundred meters into the ocean before dropping sharply to below two hundred meters depth, deep enough for Leviathans to roam. They used to navigate within a hundred meters off the coast, but this year’s currents altered the route by nearly a hundred meters closer, only the bravest captains dare to pass through here."
"Waiting until the summer in the Snow Domain, we’d miss the boat, so to speak. As pretty as the Snow Elves girls like Luscaque are, we can’t just hang around like this," Hu Daoke looked at Luo’er and said.
