Chapter 483: Chapter 421: Fratricide (Combined)

The fleet majestically sailed across the vast ocean, nearly all of them three-masted sailing ships. They first appeared in the hands of the Three-eyed Ape People for extensive trading activities and were later adapted by humans as the trade caravans reached the human world. Eventually, the True Believers who came on pilgrimages brought the relevant technologies to the Nus Kingdom.

The three-masted ships boasted huge, curved sterns and colossal slanted masts at the bow, atop which stood imposing statues. They were rigged with multiple square sails on the foremast and mainmast, while the mizzenmast carried a triangular sail. Their vast size allowed them to carry supplies sufficient for high-seas voyages, and even in storms, they had ample ability to protect themselves.

Nimirda stood at the bow, his arm resting on the mast, his feet firmly planted on the heaving deck.

He had been informed that his subordinates had been feeling seasick and vomiting over the past few days.

For nearly ten thousand years, Logos people were not without experience in oceanic voyaging - since ancient times, the Prophet Al and his son had journeyed in canoes to witness the stories of God.

However, for a very long time, the Elves’ voyages were often accompanied by the Unihorns, who would swim at their side below the water’s surface, using their glowing unicorns to guide the movement of currents, and thus stabilize the ships, keep them away from storms, and speed up their travel. King Dertulian’s successful landfall in years past was inseparably linked to the assistance of the Unihorns.

This group of Exiles had long since lost the right to call the Unihorns their brethren.

Fortunately, even though many were seasick and vomiting amidst the waves, the Elves, after all, were Elves and there was no risk of large-scale epidemics.

More concerning to Nimirda than disease were the sea storms encountered along the way.

High-seas voyages, were never an easy feat.

Even the Unihorns, who resided in the deep sea, would often get separated and fall behind because of storms.

The Exiles, no longer aided by the Unihorns, could only pray for Divine protection.

Sometimes, when you worry about something, that’s exactly what occurs.

Three days after setting sail, a storm broke out amid the gloomy night at sea.

The Elves had already anticipated the storm’s arrival; before the darkening sky, Nimirda had seen the oppressive thick clouds hanging midair.

But even with foreknowledge, they were helpless, sailing at full speed across the sea, although they ultimately failed to navigate out of the storm’s impending region.

As the storm struck, the Logos people hastily retreated into the cabins, the three-masted ships wobbling in the increasingly fierce waters, merciless thunder exploding from the clouds, with flashes of lightning sketching a terrifying spectacle.

Huge waves crashed down wave after wave; the cabins were stuffed full with Logos people, who prayed in the dark, beseeching the Lord for their safety.

Cold sweat beaded on Nimirda’s face; the storm was fiercer than he anticipated. He loudly reassured everyone, then was the first to kneel in prayer; seeing this, a settling calm spread among the panicked crowd.

Giant waves pummeled the fleet, incessantly washing the decks with rainwater; aside from lightning, no illumination pierced the oppressive black sky.

The fleet struggled on, barely keeping pace with one another to avoid straggling.

Suddenly, amongst the perimeter, a commotion among the Logos people broke out, uncertain of its cause or origin, panic swiftly spreading like a plague, with a hint of blood scenting the damp air.

Nimirda quickly opened his eyes, released his clasped hands with confusion, when he heard the panicked shouts.

"Merfolk! Merfolk! The Merfolk are attacking us!"

Accompanied by panicked screams, the entire fleet was alerted.

Nimirda was first shocked, then he quickly stood up from the swaying cabin, decisively organizing the Logos people to resist the Merfolk’s attack.

The Elves rushed onto the decks, and amid the chaos, they wielded various weapons. Nimirda, with his bow and arrows, spotted squads of Merfolk scaling the wet hull, climbing onto the deck.

With no preamble, no sign, as soon as the Merfolk climbed onto the deck, the battle began, the Merfolk moving as if on flat land amidst the rain, clashing with the Exiles with weapons fashioned from rocks and shells. Suddenly, the Elves were caught off guard, their deck soaked with blood.

The Merfolk outnumbered them, endlessly surging like a breeding school of fish, not only fighting with spears but also casting numerous sea snakes, causing many Logos to fall to the venom.

Nimirda gritted his teeth as the storm’s rain lashed his face. He roared in anger, steadying the breaking ranks of Elves, then drawing his bow and loosing arrows at the approaching Merfolk.

Several arrows later, two Merfolk fell, inspiring the Elves to charge fearlessly into the fray. Despite the hindrances from the shaking deck and the growing storm, they were, after all, Elves, and for a time, they fought undecidedly with the Merfolk.

The Merfolk’s sea snakes weaved through the rain, the storm filled with cries of pain and roars of fury, never ceasing, blood constantly dripping. The Merfolk never let go of their hatred, and as Nimirda and his followers were exiled, no longer part of the Nus Kingdom, they took on the responsibility to cleanse their sins; the Exiles had long since stopped treating the Merfolk as kin. In the midst of the storm, hatred was unleashed in disarray.
