Chapter 44 - 41: He Has No Grace
Chapter 44: Chapter 41: He Has No Grace
The Priest was sweating cold all over.
He didn’t dare to look up, nor to meet the eyes of the Sapo King. Driven by fear, he knelt down, an ancient instinct from the Ape-man Era gnawing at his mind.
The face of the Sapo King was cold and veiled with rage. Everyone present felt this and did not dare to breathe heavily. The faint-hearted could only lower their gaze to the floor of the palace.
Amid the trembling, the Priest felt that the Sapo King’s fury was not directed solely at him but also at the Pattern Garden behind him and even...
The Priest dared not think further.
"Are you the chosen one? You are just a priest."
The Sapo King spat out the words one by one,
"Do you dare to offend me, thinking that God favors you instead of me?"
The Priest couldn’t utter a word. He felt his throat tighten, blocking even the air from flowing smoothly.
The Sapo King slowly walked towards the steps in front of the throne, waving his hand outward. The guards who had been waiting outside for a long time carried up a piece of Dragon Bone as tall as a man and as wide as three.
The heavy footsteps echoed inside the palace. The rejuvenating Dragon Bone was placed inside the palace.
The Dragon Bone was so pale it reflected light, cleaner than any beast bone the Logos people had ever seen, like the relentless downpour that lasted three months during the Ape-man Era.
The Priest bowed his head even lower as the Sapo King approached, feeling an invisible intimidation pressing on him.
The Sapo King reached out and grabbed the Priest’s arm.
Panicking, the Priest even forgot to control his own body. Under the immense force, the Sapo King dragged him across the floor to the front of the Dragon Bone.
The Sapo King reached out his hand and caressed the pale Dragon Bone. The Priest turned his head and saw the frenzy in the King’s eyes.
Such fanaticism towards some great existence was terrifying, never seen even in Al, the Prophet chosen by God who had profound faith.
The Prophet had taught the priests:
True faith should be tranquil, omnipresent, and effortlessly natural, not like a terrifying burst from oppressive storm clouds.
The Sapo King turned his face away, and that terrifying look snapped the Priest out of his daze.
"Receive death."
"This is your judgment."
As the words of the Sapo King fell, the Priest’s neck was lifted entirely, his chest forced against the sharp edge of the Dragon Bone.
With a splash, bright red blood sprayed out, falling on top of the Dragon Bone.
The Priest’s scream echoed through the entire palace in an instant.
The Sapo King’s other hand pressed against the Dragon Bone.
The Priest convulsed on top of the Dragon Bone, his vision blurring gradually from blood loss, his life being drawn out by the pale Dragon Bone.
His face pressed against the Dragon Bone, his eyes wide staring at the Sapo King. He saw his own blood slowly converging towards the Sapo King from the Dragon Bone, his life being transferred to the Sapo King.
The Priest felt fear, the Sapo King’s fervor firmly imprinted in his memory.
"Blasph..."
"King..."
"The King blasphemes God!"
Before his death,
The Priest used his last ounce of strength, stretching out his hand, accusing the King of the Logos people of blasphemy.
However, aside from the nearby Sapo King, none of the Logos people heard.
After the Priest’s death, everyone in the palace was filled with dread.
They were the wise Elders of the kingdom, venerable men of the Logos people with considerable prestige.
Yet all their prestige combined could not compare to the Sapo King, who led the Logos people in establishing the Kingdom.
The Sapo King first coldly scanned the people,
"Behold this Dragon Bone."
The voice fell, and everyone looked towards the Dragon Bone.
The blood from the Priest slowly merged into the Dragon Bone, disappearing into it like water into water.
Moments later, the Sapo King spoke again,
"Look at me again!"
The crowd obediently shifted their gaze from the Dragon Bone to the Sapo King.
Then, they saw with their own eyes the Sapo King gradually grow taller, and heard with their ears his voice become louder and more majestic.
Memories of the past slowly awakened; the King who once led his people to establish the Kingdom, was returning from the sands of time, back to Logos’s side.
"My people, I am on the path to Eternal Life!"
The Sapo King spread his arms wide and declared loudly,
"God has granted me Eternal Life."
"Because God has chosen me, I am your King, the Chosen One!"
The King’s solemn declaration echoed through the palace, and the crowd witnessed his rejuvenation—an absolute miracle. The great King of their memories had returned, and the elderly wise elders, who had all experienced that pioneering era, could not help but let tears flow and kneel down under the voice of the Sapo King.
At first, it was one or two; soon, there were five, six, and then rows and rows of wise elders kneeling, looking up at the imposing figure of the King.
The Sapo King took a step forward and pointed toward the corpses of the Priest.
"These Priests of the Pattern Garden, they have offended God, thus, the Eternal Life God meant for us was delayed."
"Their duty was to serve, yet they sat idle in the Pattern Garden, forgetting their responsibilities."
"For this reason, God was disappointed with Al,
and made him leave, leave the Kingdom. To let him die outside the Kingdom."
The crowd looked up at the Sapo King in confusion, their words hesitated in their hearts, unsaid.
The Sapo King scrutinized the crowd.
He knew well what they were thinking.
The King took a step forward and declared,
"God has chosen me, granted me the grace of Eternal Life, and allowed me to share this grace with you!"

The wise elders left the palace, trembling with emotion and tears in their eyes as they departed, calling out to God and the God-chosen King.
In the palace, only the Sapo King and his eldest son remained.
The Sapo King watched their departing figures coldly, slowly descending from the King’s Throne, and moved back beside the pale Dragon Bone.
He looked at the Dragon Bone, continuously stroking it.
Those afternoons filled with glory were coming back, returning to him.
The eldest son watched his father with reverence.
After everyone had left, the eldest son approached delicately and asked,
"King, God chose you, allowing you to move towards Eternal Life."
"God had previously chosen the Prophet, He had revealed to the Prophet, then..."
"Oh King, I am your eldest son, please tell me, what has God revealed to you?"
The Sapo King suddenly looked up, glancing at his eldest son.
The latter, feeling a sudden fear, instinctively took two steps back.
The aged King, no more, turned around and coldly laughed,
"Nothing."
"My eldest son,"
"He didn’t choose me, nor did he grant us any grace, never."
