Only God -
Chapter 40 - 37: The Covenant, Promise, and Arrangements with God
Chapter 40: Chapter 37: The Covenant, Promise, and Arrangements with God
Yarlessto finally regained his senses from the shame he felt, examining the gathering of Unihorns on the island with a confusion that surpassed even that of his prophet father.
He couldn’t understand why God would want to grant these Unihorns rationality, nor could he grasp why God would want the people of Logos to become brethren with these beasts.
Yarlessto’s gaze of doubt alternated between God and the Unihorns, wanting to ask something, yet finding it difficult to voice his question.
Al noticed Yarlessto’s unease and immediately spoke up,
"Do not worry, Yarlessto."
Hearing his father’s words, Yarlessto instantly lifted his head and tentatively looked towards God.
Finally, the prophet’s eldest son broke the silence,
"Lord, why must we be brethren with them?"
Chen Yi turned his attention to Yarlessto.
Yarlessto felt suddenly uncomfortable.
He began to regret.
What virtue did he possess to dare to question God, and how could God deign to answer his... the thought of his own insignificance flashed through his mind, quickly dominating his spirit.
Yarlessto slightly bowed his head, avoiding God’s gaze.
"The apocalypse is near."
The gentle voice entered his ears, and Yarlessto was first astonished, then bewildered, followed by a brief contemplation, and finally, shock.
The apocalypse...
Al too heard God’s words, his reaction similar, first bewilderment, then fear flooded his mind.
God pointed with one hand to the Unihorns, and with the other towards the people of Logos,
"When the apocalypse comes, you must join them to part the waters."
Al lifted his face, panic filling his aged heart, invoking the vitality of his younger days for the care of Logos.
The prophet opened his mouth, wishing to ask something.
God looked at him, speaking first,
"Al, you are the chosen one."
He spoke again, just as He had hundreds of years before.
As the words fell on Al’s ears, he became slightly stunned, memories rushing through every strand of his hair.
Hundreds of years had passed, he had aged so much, yet only God remained eternal.
He seemed never to fade, never to expire.
Everything in the world was washed by the river of time, baptized by the years, only He walked upon the waters, never stepping into them.
God’s gaze fell upon Al, who felt as if God was looking at a child, not an aging man of Logos.
Parents always have great expectations for their children.
Those hopes sometimes bring fear yet also happiness.
When Al realized this, he felt a certain weight upon his shoulders as if bearing some burden.
He cast aside his doubts; he was not his eldest son Yarlessto, who was full of suspicion; he was Al, the world’s first prophet, the chosen one, a person of Logos, a child of God.
The white-haired Al turned to look at his eldest son Yarlessto, and suddenly realized, the way he looked at his son was just like the way God looked at him.
Al turned back towards God, who also gazed back at him.
The prophet understood that whatever was in his heart,
Whether thoughts about God or considerations for Yarlessto...
God knew them all.
Thus, in the profound depths, in his heart, he prayed for some covenant, some promise, some arrangement...
Both concerning all the people of Logos and his eldest son Yarlessto.
This covenant, promise, and arrangement seemed almost isolated from everything in the world, known only to him and God.
Ultimately, Al unconsciously said,
"God,"
"Please grant me a signpost and guidance!"
God turned in the shining light, His entire being luminescent, and with a raised hand amidst the dazzling brilliance, the prophet saw Him pointing towards the edge of the world, where the dark fog-like Ancient Chaos churned ceaselessly.
"What you seek, what you pray for, lies there."
"At the edge of the world, I have grace to bestow."
Having gathered berries and replenished water on the island, the father and son then returned to their canoe from the island.
God’s figure had already disappeared from the island, making the island grow fruit trees and produce clear water, facing the Ancient Chaos and vanishing in the blink of an eye.
The two of them sat back in the canoe, Yarlessto aimlessly gazed towards the edge of the world, the mist-like Chaos.
Al adjusted the oar, setting it into the right position.
"Father, you are the prophet."
"What is it?"
Al detected an unusual seriousness in his eldest son’s tone.
Yarlessto lifted his eyes to look directly at his father and asked,
"What will God’s grace be?"
He suspected that his father knew something profoundly, but he wasn’t sure what his father actually knew.
"I do not know."
Al gave a clean and decisive answer.
Yarlessto was momentarily speechless; after pondering for a moment, he helplessly accepted it, his father always had such absolute faith in God.
The Unihorns still gathered around the island, moving aside to clear the way as the canoe moved out, and then, the huge Unihorn that had swallowed them took great care in coming close.
It sprayed water friendly, indicating a desire to accompany them.
Al gladly accepted the goodwill of the giant Unihorn, although he still felt trepidation about having been inside its belly.
So, accompanied by a giant Unihorn, the canoe began its journey towards the Ancient Chaos.
The giant Unihorn’s ability to control the sea water was astonishing.
Before their very eyes, the prophet and his son watched the giant Unihorn under the water, its long, pointed horn glowing with a pale blue light, the nearby sea water swirling rapidly, propelling the canoe forward with extreme speed.
For several days and nights, they sailed, replenishing food and water from the fish brought by the Unihorns.
Progress on the journey had been unprecedentedly smooth.
The once seemingly unreachable Ancient Chaos now drew nearer, rapidly shortening the distance and gradually obscuring a portion of their view.
Yarlessto was a bit excited; he felt that at this rate, the answer was just within reach.
Al, however, was much calmer.
As they drew nearer to the Ancient Chaos, Yarlessto suddenly noticed that the canoe’s speed had slowed from before; he looked down and saw that the huge shadow beneath the water had become sluggish, as if hesitant or afraid.
