Chapter 172: Chapter 149: The God of Honesty and Covenant
When a group of people brought back the Earth Dragon’s long tongue to the tribe, the Turtle Clan Leader immediately started tirelessly mixing the potion.
The entire Rabbit Clan rejoiced upon seeing the Turtle Clan Leader’s cheerful demeanor, immersing themselves in a joyful atmosphere.
The Turtle Clan Leader set up a large pot and poured in prepared ingredients like the dragonfly wing membrane, turtle shells, cacti, and others, and when the mixture became thick, he added the Earth Dragon’s long tongue as well.
Noen and his companions watched as the fire simmered down to a thick consistency. The Turtle Clan Leader then extinguished the flames and turned to face everyone.
The Turtle Clan Leader exclaimed,
"Thank you, our friends, without you, I could never have obtained this potion."
Noen and his group just exchanged glances and smiled.
The Turtle Clan Leader ladled a bowl of potion from the pot, and looking at the pale green liquid, he whispered,
"My pain is about to end."
After saying this, the Turtle Clan Leader drank the potion in one gulp.
The bitter potion touched his throat, and soon all of it settled in the Clan Leader’s stomach. He slowly put down the bowl and looked around at the joyful clan members.
Tears welled up in the Turtle Clan Leader’s eyes; for many years, he had been plagued by sorrow, his longevity only meant watching his short-lived loved ones pass away one by one.
Now, that pain could finally leave him, and he wouldn’t have to be tormented by emotions, able to continue leading his clan and expanding his tribe.
The Turtle Clan Leader raised his hand to gently wipe the tears from his eyes.
All of a sudden, his entire body stiffened.
A cold sensation spread from his chest.
The Turtle Clan Leader widened his eyes, and then a sharp pain shot through his chest as if a needle had pierced his aged heart.
Gradually, blood trickled from the corners of the Turtle Clan Leader’s mouth.
He looked incredulously at the bowl in his hand, his large body then dropped to his knees, and he fell irreversibly to the ground.
The Rabbit people looked on in shock as the Clan Leader collapsed, panic immediately set in.
"Clan Leader! Clan Leader!"
"Clan Leader... the Clan Leader has stopped breathing!"
"It’s poison, that’s poison!"
The tribe was suddenly filled with terror, people haplessly rushed to the Clan Leader’s body, crying loudly and mournfully.
Noen and his group were also completely stunned, they had never anticipated this turn of events.
"What on earth is going on?"
Noen muttered.
According to the Turtle Clan Leader, the potion was supposed to relieve pain.
However, after drinking the potion, the Turtle Clan Leader fell straight to the ground, his life extinguished.
"It’s simple, he had his wish fulfilled."
Suddenly, an unknown voice emerged next to Noen’s ear.
Noen quickly turned around.
A Grey-robed man with three eyes appeared abruptly behind Noen.
His sudden appearance not only shocked Noen but also made the crowd disperse, gazing at this man in surprise.
Nobody recognized this abrupt stranger, nor did they know how he got there.
"Who, who are you?"
Casas drew his bronze sword, his voice trembling.
"Slaier."
The man smiled amicably,
"Hello,
I am Slaier, the God of Honesty and Contract."
His voice was soft but reached every ear present.
Slaier?!
The one who gave the Turtle Clan Leader the potion recipe?
Noen’s gaze shifted back and forth between the fallen clan leader and Slaier.
"You, you’re one of the Gods? How is that possible?"
Casas pointed his sword at Slaier.
How could the person in front of him be Divine?
How could one of the Gods just casually appear on earth?
Slaier simply laughed,
"Sorry, I tend to not follow the rules."
Afterward, the man lifted his face and glanced at the Rabbit People still in a state of panic.
"Don’t see me anywhere else, I’m afraid the people here will tear me apart."
Slaier said with a smirk, then turned around and patted the sleeves of his gray robe.
A gust of yellow sand suddenly rose, momentarily obscuring Slaier’s figure, and when the sand settled, the man had disappeared.
Noen and his companions looked at each other in surprise, as Slaier’s arrival and departure were both unexpected.
Behind them, the Rabbit People were crying, their heartbroken voices echoing across the land.
...
In the end, Noen and his companions left the Rabbit People’s tribe empty-handed.
The death of the Turtle Clan Leader had dealt a heavy blow to the tribe, and not many were there to send them off.
Noen felt their departure was utterly confused and disgraceful!
The event was so sudden, too surreal!
"According to normal development, we should have...fulfilled the wishes of the Turtle People and then received guidance to successfully cross the Path of Death."
Casas was equally puzzled,
"This is really...this is really unexpected."
It was a mess.
Despite the confusion of the group, the journey still had to continue, and they had to cross the Path of Death.
Having no choice, the group had to temporarily put aside their turmoil and continue trekking through the desert.
"Slaier...who is he exactly?"
At night, as the group rested under a Wind Erosion Stone and set up a campfire, Casas couldn’t help but ask.
"The God of Honesty and Contract? How...how can a Divine being appear so casually?!"
Baird shook his head and said,
"I’ve never heard of such a Divine...
But his appearance was too sudden, too magical.
I can’t think of anyone who could have such ability."
"Who he really is...why he would..."
Noen also couldn’t help but murmur softly.
Suddenly, a slight breeze stirred up in the desert.
A figure emerged from the darkness and slowly approached the people by the fire.
"Are you talking about me?"
The group suddenly got goosebumps and turned to look, only to see Slaier standing there, waving amiably at them.
"Let me introduce myself again,
I am Slaier, the God of Honesty and Contract."
While speaking, Slaier performed the etiquette of the Three-eyed Ape People.
The people quickly scrambled up from the ground, wary of this unknown man.
"You...you really are...a Divine?"
Casas asked, trembling slightly.
At first, he couldn’t believe it, but after Slaier appeared again, the former Prime Minister’s son also became half-convinced.
"Indeed, and I am also a Subordinate God of the Prophetic God."
Saying this, Slaier slowly walked toward them.
The people instinctively took a few steps back.
After a step forward by Slaier and steps back from the people, Slaier waved his hand and said,
"Everyone, I mean no harm.
I am a Subordinate God of Kagawus, so why would I persecute His creations?"
Slaier declared, appearing completely non-threatening.
Noen pondered for a moment, then spoke up to question,
"Honesty and Contract?
You clearly killed that Clan Leader."
The question reached Slaier’s ears.
"No, I merely fulfilled his wishes.
They treated me so kindly, how could I possibly intend to harm them?
However, there are more than one ways to fulfill a wish, just as there are many paths to wealth..."
Slaier merely smiled slightly,
"After all, one must be extremely careful when signing a contract, better not make a single mistake in wording."
