Chapter 135: Chapter 117 The Gods Make a Pact
In the Celestial Kingdom,
The Gods witnessed the demise of the ancient Logos Kingdom.
The world’s first civilization had perished, and though it was by the divine hands that they were given the power to destroy each other, upon seeing this scene, They could not help but sigh.
This kingdom, once coveted by the Gods, had now fallen.
The Gods had seen with their own eyes the skirmishes, the massacres, and had watched the people of Logos twist their human nature in the face of annihilation. They saw the throne return to the bloodline of the Sapo King, as if in a cycle of lives.
This once supremely glorious civilization had been extinguished.
Even Curse God Yikabe, normally reticent, was quite moved.
He seldom issued divine edicts to His created race, but now, He illuminated the destruction of the Logos Kingdom to the deer-headed, human-bodied Druids.
Water God Angel herself appeared to her Sea Demons, narrating in detail the rise and fall of the Logos Kingdom to her Priests.
Dragon God Endora also had revelations for His Beastmen, while Prophetic God Kagawus, due to His own frailty and the fact the Three-eyed Ape People had experienced everything firsthand, found no great need to issue divine edicts.
Among the Gods, only Divine King Shan En remained silent.
The Divinities did not know what the King of Gods might be pondering.
Just as They did not know why Shan En had not yet created his own race.
"Gods,
Though the mortals upon the earth are insignificant, their lessons can enlighten us."
After several divinities had made arrangements for their races, Divine King Shan En spoke slowly.
Different from His usual majestic tranquility, this time, the voice of Divine King Shan En contained a deep concern.
"Great King of Gods,
We can hear the worry in your voice, the turmoil in your heart."
Prophetic God Kagawus, with respect, said so,
"As the Prophetic God, I also know you are concerned about the races we have created.
Divine King Shan En,
Is there something about the races we created that dissatisfies you?"
Kagawus’s words fell upon the ears of the other deities, who turned to look at Shan En, silently awaiting the Divine King’s words.
"The races you have created each have their strengths and weaknesses, and the blessings you bestow upon them vary in measure.
Regardless, you all regard your races as treasures."
Divine King Shan En said to the Gods:
"However, I must ask you, if our races should fight one another, what should we do?"
Shan En’s words plunged the deities into contemplation.
Without a doubt, at the inception of their races, the Gods had never considered such a question.
After all, the divinities of the Celestial Kingdom had known wisdom for too short a time to have experienced the vicissitudes of life.
After a long while, Dragon God Endora spoke:
"Our races weigh differently in our hearts; if anyone’s race should fight mine, let that deity bestow their blessings as they wish."
Among the Gods, Endora was the greatest proponent of the strong, and the same held true among races.
If his Beastmen were to be annihilated, it would only prove that they were too weak and undeserving of worship.
Water God Angel gave an almost opposite response:
"The Sea Demons hold a place in my heart; I cannot allow the races of other Gods to destroy them. If they were to be extinguished, I would have their enemies buried with them."
Clearly, Water God Angel was deeply concerned for her Sea Demons. She vowed to protect her race, allowing no room for compromise.
The thoughts of Prophetic God Kagawus were close to those of Water God Angel. He did not wish to see the race he painstakingly created be destroyed by any hand, equally desiring to protect his own race,
And the attitude of Curse God Yikabe was between that of Dragon God and Prophetic God.
Divine King Shan’en surveyed the Gods and after a moment of contemplation, He spoke,
"Seems like, to us Gods, losing a race we have created is akin to losing a precious treasure."
The Gods nodded slightly, in agreement with Divine King Shan’en’s words.
"But, just as the people of Logos on the ground use our benevolence to destroy each other, our races will, sooner or later, turn their graces on one another, clashing swords and spears."
Divine King Shan’en insightfully foresaw the strife between races,
"If we allow races to destroy each other, the Gods will consequently bear grudges, and by then... the animosity between Divine beings will be hard to untangle, possibly only ending with one side’s fall."
Shan’en aroused the Gods with His words; they came to a sudden realization, recognizing the severity of races annihilating each other.
"Divine King, what shall we do?
Use divine edicts to restrain them from slaughtering each other?"
Prophetic God Kagawus asked urgently.
Among the Gods, only His race had been enslaved by the people of Logos, and thus Kagawus was more aware of the gravity of the situation.
"Kagawus, ambition, greed, desire, these are the innate drives of terrestrial races. Regardless of which race, they will one day walk the path of slaughter."
Divine King Shan’en’s voice was calm, but He was revealing to the Gods the warning Logos Kingdom gave Him,
"Moreover, what if each race worships a different God?
This way, there will be strife among Gods, and it will be tangled and endless!"
Divine King Shan’en had pondered for a long time on the destruction of Logos Kingdom, drawing warnings from the slaughtering Logos people and sharing them with the Gods of Celestial Kingdom.
The Gods thought it over and frowned.
Shan’en was right,
No Divine being could assure that their own race would never slaughter each other.
Even if They could send down divine edicts, wield mighty powers.
But what if their own race, like the people of Logos, worshiped other Divine beings?
The Gods of Celestial Kingdom did not know what to do.
"Gods,
Kagawus once saw in a prophecy that our Father would make with us an eternal covenant."
Divine King Shan’en looked around at the other Divine beings,
"Before that,
let us make our own covenant."
Our own covenant?
The Gods glanced at Divine King Shan’en with a hint of confusion.
Only to hear Divine King Shan’en slowly say,
"From the day of the covenant, Gods must not bring down destructive miracles upon each other’s races, nor pronounce destructive divine edicts.
Even if one race changes faith or is exterminated, the other side must not act rashly, but instead submit to the judgment of all Gods. Following the verdict, no matter the result, all Gods must comply.
If any earthly race offends Divine beings, the wrath of God must not pour upon that Divine being, but only upon the earth, to bring suffering, yet not to cause their extinction.
And to all mortals upon the Earth, any person, the Gods may bestow benevolence.
For we Gods have our own choices, our own miracles.
This...
is our covenant!
The eternal covenant of Gods that shall never perish!"
