Chapter 49: Eleven Levels

Leo rushed through the palace while decimating any creatures that got in his way. As he did this, he managed to combine two of his spells. Which were Nova Punch and Cataclysm Fist that created Nova Fist.

This new spell turned the Ghouls and powerful Demons into dust whenever his fist connected. He started coming across groups of soldiers that were nearly overwhelmed by the creatures.

’They’ll need help but the emperor will be rewarding me for saving them again,’ Leo thought while killing countless monsters.

He quickly used Thunderbolt and Fireballs that wiped out dozens of Ghouls before he arrived and started punching them. Explosions rocked the palace as groups of creatures were obliterated.

Leo spotted a shieldwall in the distance but there was a sea of Ghouls and Blightborns between them. He was annoyed at this point and started spamming his spells into the horde that washed over the enemies.

Following that, Leo used Mana Barrier to block several lunges at him, but that’s when the shieldwall moved forward thanks to his help. He rushed toward the soldiers as a bigger Ghoul appeared and broke the defense.

The shieldwall was sent flying all over the corridor, all the creatures rushing toward the survivors. Leo watched as the Ghouls pounced on the downed men and women, but he cast Thunderbolt that took out dozens of the enemies.

That’s when he noticed some students he wasn’t familiar with but knew they were in his class. A pack of Ghouls rushed toward them, but Leo quickly took them out as he appeared in front of a pair of siblings named Rosie and Steven Taylor.

’So close, but at least I can kill more while impressing the popular girls,’ he thought with a snicker.

They looked petrified, but Leo winked at the pink-haired girl whose cheeks went red before he used Mana Barrier to block several attacks. Explosions shook the floor as Roxy and Agatha rushed over to him.

As the two girls did this, more soldiers appeared and managed to overwhelm the creatures, which allowed him to take a break. While standing there, Roxy grabbed his arm and spoke with an excited smile, ’’I’m glad you arrived babe, it was getting dicey in here. Especially with the rest of the class.’’

Leo turned around and noticed eight people huddled behind him, a green-haired girl named Ruby who was a mage like most people stepped forward with a friendly smile, ’’Thank you for helping us Leo, I thought we were done until you appeared in front of us.’’

When looking at the girl, he remembered seeing her in class but never interacted with them as they were the popular group. Leo shook his head and started casting Fireballs into another horde of Ghouls.

The blue fires washed over the creatures, which burned them to ash, which allowed the soldiers to relax. Emperor Dorian turned around with a big smile as he exclaimed, ’’Leo, can you take the heroes into the dining room storage room and make sure they’re safe?’’

’’Yes, that’s fine, I’ve burned through too much mana anyway,’’ he answered the older man and ushered the scared students into the storage. ’’Come on you lot, we need to move before someone gets eaten.’’

When they heard that, they rushed forward like scared rabbits, making him and the girls laugh. Agatha commented while cleaning off her sword, ’’I mean I don’t blame them for being scared, they’ve only just started their training and only seen your basic monsters that all children fight.’’

He nodded in understanding as he responded, ’’I’ll have to fly around the empire killing as many as I can, I need to level up even more.’’

Once Leo was finished speaking, he checked his level to see if he had gained any.

’Eleven levels, this is getting exciting,’ he thought while opening the storage room for the students.

Following that, Leo looked at Agatha, Roxy, and now Luna, who appeared from the hall’s entrance with the others. When Julius saw this, he exclaimed, ’’We have to hide until we’re stronger. We’ll die if we try to fight.’’

’’Shut up and get in the fucking storage room with the rest of the class,’’ Leo barked at the scared group before looking at Marcus and Ashley. ’’Don’t pull the teacher bullshit with me. I can fight these things and you can’t.’’

Once they rushed into the room, he looked at the three girls. ’’Look after them. If they are loose, it will be a headache to deal with.’’

They exchanged amused glances before giggling and nodding in agreement. Roxy leaned in and kissed him quickly as he shut the door behind them with a heavy thud. To make sure they were safe, he cast a Mana Barrier over the entrance before leaving the dining hall.

Following that, Leo sprinted through the palace corridors, his blade cutting down any monsters that crossed his path. With the imperial mage successfully sealing the Demon portals, he seized the opportunity to pursue the fleeing creatures.

The scared creatures rushed across the city with Leo flying behind them while casting dozens of Fireballs into the monster’s back. Soon enough they jumped through a portal which he entered, only to appear in a dark land.

Darkness covered a wasteland, which confused him. Leo panicked and jumped back through the portal that closed seconds later. Afterward, he started walking back to the capital, as his mana was low.

The moon hung high in the sky, its silvery glow illuminating the world around him. In the distance, he spotted a herd of ordinary monsters moving as one, their presence briefly catching his attention.

Shaking off the distraction, he pressed on the journey, taking Leo twenty minutes before he finally arrived at the city gate. The soldiers quickly let him in while thanking him for helping them kill the monsters.

’’What happened here? The Demons appeared out of nowhere,’’ Leo questioned with a curious expression.

The soldiers looked nervous, but the commander answered, ’’Traitors hero, it’s believed that the Demon had spies in the empire.’’

’’Interesting, I assume the emperor will investigate this?’’ Leo asked.
