Chapter 99: Sincere apology [2]
"So.. What do you want to tell me?" Coco asked the first husband, matching the mediator’s pace as they walked towards the direction of the house.
He has been quiet ever since she had a quick conversation with Mrs. Tani about the fruits and vegetables she will bring back from the mountain starting tomorrow, not saying anything and just watching the interaction between them with an unreadable look on his face.
He looked genuinely remorseful earlier so she wanted to give him a chance to let him apologize.
Although, Coco doesn’t mind what happened yesterday because she needed it to be done for the activation of Alhai’s quest.
The first quests of the husbands gives her something useful, just like [Coco’s pocket] that seems similar to a bank account due to Coco having to deposit and withdraw the money she has.
Who knows what kind of useful feature she would get from completing Alhai’s quest which is why she’s excited to get started on clearing the quest.
However, she has to talk to Zaque before anything else.
Hence why she accepted the first husband’s request to have a private conversation with her.
"It was about yesterday." The red haired mediator mumbled, his eyes staring ahead of him, not wanting to look at the woman walking beside him.
"What about yesterday?" Coco hummed out, urging Zaque to get straight to the point.
"I would like to apologize for what happened yesterday by baking you something for today. You don’t have to stay for dinner, but I would appreciate it if you’ll stay to eat the bread I’ll make for you." Zaque said, his voice barely above whisper.
Coco couldn’t help, but get curious.
She glanced over to her left, her eyes looking over to the first husband’s current expression.
When she saw what he looked like, she felt a sense of pride catching his confident expression replaced by a flustered state.
His cheeks were tinged with color, a charming shade of pink that spread across his cheeks. His eyes darted away, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as the embarrassment washed over him.
Is he seriously getting embarrassed by telling her that he wants her to eat the bread he makes?
"Okay." Coco said the words before she could think, the words rolling off her tongue with unusual ease and catching both him and the fairy surprise.
"What?!" Lala gasped loudly, a mortified look in her face.
"I thought you said you didn’t want to come back to that house? Why are you going there to just eat what he bakes when he hasn’t apologized yet?! This is so unfair, Coco!" Lala whined, her voice loud right next to Coco’s ear as she let out a cry.
Ring.
Ring.
Ring.
That’s everything Zaque could hear, a sweat dropping on his cheek as he glanced at Coco.
He wondered if he said something unforgiving because the fairy’s reaction after what Coco said seem to set off the adorable creature’s temper.
He wanted to say something more about what he will bake, but the ringing won’t stop until they reached the house.
As soon as Zaque opened the door and let Coco inside, the woman grabbed something behind her hair and plucked out a red crying fairy, making the first husband go wide eye.
"Lala, don’t cry." Coco said to the fairy as she placed Lala on her palm, "I’ll just be quick here, okay? I’ll just hear out what Zaque has to say and you know? Eat what he will make and then I’m out of here."
"But I know you will catch feelings and throw me away!" Lala cried out, her tears streaming down her cheeks as she cry harder.
"What?" Coco asked, a look of disbelief and surprise crossing her face, "I won’t do that, okay? And I surely won’t throw you away for something as shallow as this, dummy! Stop fretting on this— I promise I’ll go home."
"B.. But.. But what if Zaque asks you to not go home?" The fairy sniffled, "Then you won’t go home ever again and throw me away! Waaaaaaaaah!"
Lala cried louder and buried her face in Coco’s palm, her little hands balling into fists as she smacked the surface of Coco’s palm, "I could already see my future, Coco! I will be thrown away! All alone!"
Coco let out a sigh and wrapped her hands around the fairy’s body, letting her cry her out.
"Is the fairy okay?" Zaque asked, his eyebrows furrowed as he watched Coco’s hands shake which was soon followed by continuous ringing as if vibrating.
"She’ll be fine." Coco forced a smile his way, "I have to go home before dinner though. Will you take long on baking?"
As soon as she asked that question, the ringing stopped.
Zaque’s eyes shifted from Coco’s face to her hands and saw a small head peeking out of her hands’ gap, seeing that the fairy has a hopeful expression, he was forced to smiled and shook his head.
"It won’t take long." He assured Coco and saw how the fairy brightened up significantly.
"Ah." Coco blinked and smiled, "That’s a relief. Well then, would it be alright if I take a seat? I don’t want to impose in your space of anything."
"What are you saying?" Zaque frowned, making his way towards the kitchen, "I invited you so of course, you can take a seat."
"Thanks." Coco said, pulling the chair out and taking a seat, her hands letting go of each other with the fairy flying over to her head and sitting on top of Coco’s head.
"Also, you can always go home whenever you like. You’re my wife and this is your house, too." Zaque added to his previous statement as he bought out a large bowl from the cabinet.
"I already told you, I’m not Coco Hughes so this isn’t my home." Coco answered with a dismissive tone.
Zaque could only tighten his grip on the bowl.
