Chapter 95: A friend’s concern

Chapter 95: A friend’s concern

Morning came by rather quickly.

Coco was knocked out cold after things had dwindled down to silence, the moment Quizen revealed that Zaque was assuming things and left her alone to go home, she immediately went to bed.

Jacques also went home after double checking the injuries in her body, worried she had bled through the bandages because of the unreasonable stress her husband had given her.

Thankfully, Coco was let off by a simple wrap of bandages around her torso to secure the gauzes in her injury.

Coco was glad that she didn’t have to endure the pain of being stitched, the scratch from the flying pig’s sharp feathers were shallow, but deep enough to make her bleed through her clothes.

With the pink haired woman bringing back the magical stones back to the butcher shop, having their mana restored in one go by Coco, she also took it upon herself to put it in the freezer.

Coco doesn’t know if she took too much Jacques’ time before she forced her to leave the room, she hopes that by the time she comes back to the shop, Renaldo is done butchering the flying pig.

Now, Coco’s done taking a bath, smelling like fresh chamomile flower and wearing another pair of new clothes, she ventured out of the Red Horse Inn and went to the butcher shop.

"Coco!" Jacques was surprised to see the black haired woman walking and carrying a basket behind her, "What are you doing?! You’re not supposed to move around and carry heavy things!"

"But I have to check if some of my crops can be harvested today." Coco retorted back with her lips down turned, "If not, how can I earn money today?"

The thought of not selling something in a day made Coco feel upset. She had always dreamed of earning her own money and buying herself things, but how can she do that when Jacques is trying to scold her for doing what she needs to do?

"Well, you can’t go out yet— unless you bring someone with you." Jacques was stubborn as a mule and shook her head, her eyes shifting from Coco’s face down to her clothes.

All of a sudden, a feeling of realization hit her, hard.

".. Don’t tell me you didn’t put anything in those scratches..?" Jacques asked, a look of horror settling in her face.

Coco’s body grew stiff and could only look away.

"Yeah! Tell her, lady!" The garden fairy exclaimed, cheering on for Jacques to scold Coco further, "She didn’t listen to me when I told her to cover her wounds and insisted on going out! It’s worrying me!"

Coco ignored Lala’s ramblings and commentaries, opting to focus on the matter at hand instead.

"I need to go out to catch any monster to sell tonight." Coco said, firm with her decision as she turned her head away, not wanting to be swayed by anyone else.

"And no, I don’t want to bring anyone with me." Coco quickly added to her previous statement when she remembered what Jacques said earlier, "It’s hard to protect myself while protecting someone else. I think that’s the reason why I got hurt."

"Seriously?" Jacques asked, her eyebrows furrowing before turning to her husband, who was standing quietly beside them the whole time they were talking, "Do you believe her?"

Coco turned to Renaldo as well.

The butcher raised his hands in the air in a surrendering manner and shook his head, "I don’t want a part of this."

"He doesn’t believe you." Jacques said and turned back to Coco which made Renaldo’s eyes go wide in shock, making him shake his head frantically.

"I said nothing." Renaldo interjected.

Coco simply rolled her eyes, a small smile creeping to her lips.

Renaldo basically told the two of them that he does believe Coco, but didn’t want Jacques to be upset with him thus he resorted to putting himself on time out before he got dragged into the mess.

"How about this then? I’ll come back with just the potatoes today and maybe look around for something to catch instead of those large monsters?" Coco suggested to her friends, taking their concern for her injuries into consideration.

"Well.. If you go further up to the north, you should be able to stumble upon a farming rabbits’ den." Renaldo stated, pondering about the possible alternative for the big games that Coco catches.

"Just how big is a single farming rabbit?" Coco tilted her head, blinking owlishly.

The butcher paused for a moment, looking at Coco and scanning her from head to toe, "About half of your size? They’re quite big, but not as tough as a flying pig and tough crocodile."

"So, it would be an easy catch then? Nice." Coco felt an excited grin creeping to her lips as she thought of ways to catch a measly rabbit.

"No, not really." Renaldo flushed her confidence down the drain by a simple three words of disagreement, "Farming rabbits uses farming tools like us. They might not be as strong as the other monsters in the forest, but they sure are smarter than them."

"Smarter?" Coco blinked.

"Smarter." Renaldo repeated what she said with a nod of his head, "They kill people like us how we skin their kind."

A cold chill ran down Coco’s spine.

The farming rabbits skins people because people skin farming rabbits? That’s way worse than a tough crocodile and flying pig!

With the tough crocodile, she could just use her trustworthy unbreakable hoe!

With the flying pig, she could just use her hand and foot— that same goes for the poison tiger, too!

From what Coco could imagine, the farming rabbits are intelligent monsters even though they are weaker, but isn’t it more terrifying than knucklehead monsters?

"I think it’s best if I stick with the bigger ones—" Coco said, but was cut off by Renaldo.

"But why?"

"Because I don’t want to!" Coco exclaimed and ran away from the couple.

I’m a coward, alright?!
