Chapter 70: Harvesting
[ Coco’s pocket:
138 gold coins and 10 silver coins
(Withdraw) (Deposit) ]
Coco gasped loudly when she saw much money she had in her virtual pocket. A hundred and thirty eight gold coins? She’s really rich now!
Coco’s smile went wider, her eyes shining with delight.
"How much did you get?" The garden fairy asked upon hearing her human friend’s gasp.
"One hundred and thirty eight gold coins." Coco responded, her voice dripping with happiness and amazement, "Ten silver coins, too."
"Wow!" Lala squealed, her wings flapping faster behind her as she kicked her feet in the air, "You’re so amazing, Coco! Who knew that you could earn that much in one day? You’re so cool!"
Coco smiled, accepting the compliment the fairy gave her, feeling good about herself as well.
"I wouldn’t be able to earn this much money if it weren’t for the fruits you grew, Lala." Coco hummed out, pulling her hand out of her pocket along with the empty pouches that were previously full of coins.
"But I only made those fruits because I want you to sell them for you." Lala retorted back, a large smile spreading on her face, "You’re the one who sold them and earned money!"
Coco could only shake her head, the smile on her face remaining, and walked towards the basket, pulling it towards the first fruitful tree— the kiwi.
There are six trees lined up in total and she’s sure that by the end of it, she would have filled one space of the three spaces in the basket and have a kilo ready for the rich patreon who wanted the fruits that Lala grew herself.
Coco started with the first tree, picking the fruits carefully from the thin twigs and tilting the basket towards so she could slide the kiwi down to the bottom.
She repeated this process several times, picking the fruits carefully to not disturb the other kiwis nearby, and would slide the fruit down on the wall of the basket so it wouldn’t get damaged once it fell down to the bottom.
When she was done with the kiwis, she moved to the oranges next.
Just like what she did to the brown fruit, she would pick the orange carefully and would tilt the basket slightly to slide down the citrus fruit with gentleness before grabbing another orange.
Then it repeats.
When she was done with the oranges, she moved to the grapes, her eyes instantly landing on the violet hues of the fruit— the ripe and plump nutritious flesh made her swallow her saliva.
"It wouldn’t hurt to take one, right, Lala?" Coco asked her fairy companion, humming softly as she picked one grape and separated it from the rest of the fruits.
She shoved it inside of her pocket, picking a single berry and putting it in her mouth before she went back to work.
Coco harvested every single grape with care just like what she did to the orange and kiwi, tilting the basket towards her and sliding the grapes down to the bottom.
She repeated this process a couple of times, mumbling random lyrics under her breath as she did and snacking on the grapes in her pocket.
When she was finally done with harvesting, the three spaces in the basket were filled with three kinds of fruits— looking too heavy and nerve wracking for her to carry it back to the village.
Coco let out a huff and grabbed the basket, she tilted towards her and crouched down to grab the bottom of the basket then hauled it up, on her shoulder, putting extra power on lifting it since it looked heavy.
However, that was a mistake.
She expected it to be heavy because of the fruits inside the basket, but she underestimated her strength— the fact that she added extra power and hauled it on her shoulder after finding the right momentum which almost sent the fruits flying.
"Watch out, Coco!" The fairy cried out, her heart racing as she watched her human friend lose her balance.
"Shit." Coco cussed under her breath, quickly lifting her foot and stomped it on the ground to level herself, "Don’t fall off, fomt fall off, don’t fall off."
She muttered prayers and wished for the fruits to not fall off the basket.
Fortunately, her reflexes are fast to kick in and quickly spun around to avoid the basket from tipping over which made her crash on the ground with both of her hands holding the sides of the basket and her falling on the ground face first.
"Coco!" Lala shrieked, her heart jumping out of her chest the moment Coco hit the ground with a loud thump.
The panicked cries of the fairy made Coco sprung up and off the ground like nothing happened before screaming a response to assure Lala.
"I’m okay!"
"Are you sure you’re okay?" The fairy asked, flying over to Coco’s spot and grabbing her nose, frowning upon seeing how red it got when she crashed down.
"I’m sure." Coco assured her with a crooked smile.
"Did you break your nose?" Lala gave Coco’s nose a light pat, checking if it was crooked or slightly bent, but when Coco simply shook her head, she couldn’t stop herself from letting out a relieved sigh.
"That’s good." The fairy muttered and backed away as she looked over to the basket, "You should have let the fruits fall instead of letting yourself fall, Coco. What if you get hurt so bad?"
Coco let out huff and stood up, "We can’t let your hard work go to waste, you know? Besides, it would also take me longer to fill this basket again."
Before Coco could go check the basket, a scroll appeared.
