Chapter 68: Packed lunch

Chapter 68: Packed lunch

"You already bought everything the quest told you to buy?" Lala asked, sleep clouding her eyes as she rubbed her eyelids to get rid of the remaining sleep from her system.

Coco could only hum to answer the fairy’s question, walking down the stairs in a hurry to go to the shop next door.

On her way out, Joachim had stopped her.

"I have asked the chef to pack your breakfast." The pink haired man said, thrusting a small bag with a few containers inside it, "Breakfast and lunch are packed, my wife said to give it to you on your way out."

Coco blinked rapidly, accepting the small bag and nodded her head slowly, feeling reluctant to accept it.

"Thank you..?" She said, her voice laced with uncertainty as she slowly walked out of the inn, keeping her eyes on the man who waved her goodbye at the door for a second.

"That woman you talked with yesterday is married to that man, right?" The garden fairy asked as she took a peek at the inside of the bag, "Does that mean that they are taking care of you because you’re their business partner now?"

Probably. Coco thought to herself, shrugging her shoulders to answer the fairy’s question without speaking.

"So, they’ll pack your breakfast and lunch from now on?" Lala brightened up, her head perking up and staring at Coco with hopeful eyes, "We can eat real food now?"

Coco raised an eyebrow at the fairy’s strange question and raised a hand to her mouth, forcing out a cough, "Cough, cough, fruits are food, too."

"Yes, fruits are food, too, but don’t you get tired of eating that everyday? I want to eat pork, too! Ever since I tasted that pork belly, I’ve been wanting to eat more food like that." Lala whined, flying up and lowering herself on Coco’s head, sitting down and whining some more.

"Back in Fairydale, we would just eat fruits everyday! At first, I was ecstatic because garden fairies like me are needed, but now that I tasted something delicious other than the fruits my sisters and I grow, it makes me feel regretful!" The fairy exclaimed with a loud puff of air.

Coco doesn’t have to look at Lala to know if she was pouting or not, she could already tell that the fairy is crossing her arms and has her cheeks puffed out.

Due to the short conversation she had with Lala, she was feeling happy and upbeat when she arrived at Magia Pierre.

"Coco!" Mrs. Tani said as soon as she walked inside the store and turned to greet her, "Welcome! I take it that my husband has told you already?"

Coco closed the door and walked towards Mrs. Tani, her eyes shifting from the white haired woman to the big basket in the middle of the store, almost occupying half of the open space.

"He just told me that you’re here." Coco answered as she leaned on the wooden counter, "He also informed me about you asking him to pack me my breakfast and lunch?"

Mrs. Tani smiled fondly, "I see.. Well, yes. Starting today, we will have your breakfast and lunch packed unless you want to eat your breakfast at the pub. Just tell us the night before so we won’t have to pack your breakfast."

Nice. It’s like I’m working for a big company that lets their employeeseat. Coco thought, the feeling of satisfaction making her return the smile Mrs. Tani gave her.

"Thank you." Coco said, expressing her gratitude.

"Don’t sweat it." Mrs. Tani hummed out, waving her hand dismissively, "Anyways, just like what we agreed with yesterday, this is the basket you will be carrying with you out in the forest."

Coco walked closer to the said basket and stared at it, inspecting the large handcrafted hamper.

It has a three divided in the middle which split the inside of the basket into three.

Due to the basket’s size, Coco could already tell that she will be able to put several fruits inside and would bring back lots of juicy fruits to Mrs. Tani.

"This is the bag where you can put Mr. Cervello’s order." Mrs. Tani said as she brought out a sturdy and high quality bag from behind the counter, "A kilo of orange, grapes, and kiwi— would you be able to bring all of that back?"

Can I bring all of the fruits back? Coco pondered the answer for that question.

If she were to encounter another flying pig or a poison tiger or other monster. Would she be able to bring all of those back to the village?

"Hmm.. Yeah, I can bring everything back by the end of the day." Coco answered Mrs. Tani’s question with a nod of her head, "I’ll make two trips if I have to. I don’t know what kind of monster I’ll bring back today and hopefully I can bring back something."

"I’m hoping for that as well." Mrs. Tani expressed her wish for Coco to be able to bring back a monster.

After all, Coco Hughes is the only person who could hunt, carry, and bring the newly killed monster from the forest, making the meat they sell in the butcher shop as fresh as it can be.

Besides, the monster that Coco hunts is the only thing that the people of Yogusho Village have been waiting for every night ever since she first brought back the poison tiger.

No one could hunt better than the trash of the village other than the trash herself.

"Well, I’ll do my best." Coco murmured and grabbed the basket, picking it up and hauling it over to her shoulder with ease, "I’ll see you later, Mrs. Tani."

"Have a safe trip, Coco." The merchant waved her off, wishing Coco a safe trip outside the forest.

"So, I have to grow lots of fruits today?" Lala asked, the excitement in her voice barely contained as she giggled to herself.
