New World with Four Husbands -
Chapter 64: To trust or to not trust
Chapter 64: To trust or to not trust
"Are they deaf or what?" The garden fairy huffed out with a frown, staring at the mediators who continued to stand there and stare at the electronics that Coco bought for them with wide eyes.
"Hello?" Coco called out once more, the excitement of wanting to see how a magic stone works dying because of the reaction she got from the four husbands of Coco Hughes.
She gets that they don’t like her, but can’t she at least get to see how a single magic stone works?
Coco let out a sigh, her lips curling downward and brought out a smaller pouch from her pocket, slamming it down on the table, hard and loud, snapping the husbands out of their trance.
"Here’s the allowance for this week." Coco grumbled out, the expression of frustration clear on her face as she walked towards the door.
If they don’t want to show her how it works then she will go to someone who will be willing to let her see!
She opened the door and walked out of the house, muttering incoherent words.
Zaque, who had snap out of his daze faster than the other three husbands, quickly called out to her, "Coco, wait—"
Slam!
However, he was too late, Coco had already slammed the door. He rushed towards the door and opened it, opening his mouth to invite his wife back inside the house, but didn’t see her outside.
His jaw dropped slightly, not expecting for Coco to be gone from his sight in a split second.
How can someone be so fast?!
"Did she seriously buy these appliances with the money she earned herself?" The third husband asked, the skepticism clear in his voice.
Sighing in defeat, Zaque slammed the door close and locked it, spinning around and walked over to the table.
"It seems that she has been going out of the village everyday to bring back monsters and fruits." He stated, picking up the toaster and raising it in the air, flipping it around to see the state of the appliance.
"I heard that from the people on our way back, too." Quizen said, the doubt can be heard by the end of his sentence.
"Don’t tell me that all of you actually believed their words without seeing her carry those said monsters yourself." Heiren frowned at them, the tone of incredulousness dripping like poison from his tongue.
After Heiren’s statement, the room filled with silence and it told Heiren everything he needed to know.
"Oh, come on!" The brown haired mediator huffed out, "Before believing gossips or rumors, you need to see that exact moment yourself! Don’t all of you know that?"
".. It’s not like I believe them." Zaque said after staying silent for a moment, "But why not give her the benefit of the doubt?"
"No." Alhai was quick to reject the first husband’s suggestion with a sharp tone and glare, "How could I trust someone who had beaten me until I couldn’t speak and walk? How could I trust someone who had tried to force herself on me despite me saying no multiple times?"
Once again, the room was eaten with silence.
The air was thick with both tension and chilly atmosphere, the third husband’s words hanging over their shoulders like how a guillotine’s mouton hung in the rope pulley, ready to cut off their heads in one pull.
Truly, how could they trust someone who has abused them in a short span of three years?
"Alright, alright.." Zaque spoke up with a defeated sigh, letting the tension in the air dissipate in an instant, "Forgive me, I didn’t mean to brush off what happened to you."
Alhai didn’t respond and only looked away.
"Let’s just all be glad that she’s not staying here anymore and is bringing us food everyday like she promised." Zaque stated, putting the toaster down on the table.
"Does that mean that she’s really not our wife? That she’s someone else now and not the Coco Hughes we married?" Quizen asked reluctantly, raising his head to look the first husband in the eyes.
Is she really not their wife?
Zaque asked himself, his mind racing with thoughts and questions, flooding his brain with all the possibilities, but looking at Alhai, remembering what they went through, he shook off the thoughts.
"We can’t be too sure." Came a vague response from him, making Quizen and the others let out a frustrated groan.
"Just like what Heiren said when she first told us about her dying and transmigration in our wife’s body, she might probably still be suffering the effects of withdrawing from alcohol." Zaque explained with a furrow of his eyebrows.
"So.. We really can’t trust her?" Quizen murmured, looking down and biting his tongue to hold himself back from saying the questions he wanted to ask.
He can’t say anything else with the atmosphere between the four of them being so stiff and tense, he can’t risk Alhai crashing out and breaking down in the kitchen floor all because he wanted to satiate his curiosity.
He let out a sigh, glancing at the third husband who has been quiet ever since his little outburst earlier.
"Don’t worry, Alhai." Quizen said and nudged the white haired mediator using his elbow, "We won’t do anything or say anything to her unless all of us have agreed with it."
Perking up, Heiren and Zaque nodded their heads.
"Quizen’s right." Zaque agreed with the fourth husband’s statement, "We won’t do anything unless we’re all comfortable with it."
Alhai still didn’t speak, only nodded his head stiffly to let them know that he heard them, acknowledged their efforts to cheer him up, and assure him that they won’t make a decision without everyone’s approval.
"Does that include any one of us getting dragged around by her like what she did to you?" Heiren suddenly asked, making everyone turn to Zaque.
".. If you can’t fight her off then it shouldn’t count, right..?" Zaque answered with hesitancy.
"Well, she is stronger than any of us.."
