New World with Four Husbands -
Chapter 47: Start of her tendencies
Chapter 47: Start of her tendencies
Coco’s emerald eyes met the first husband’s red ones, a look of confusion in his face with his eyebrows furrowed deeply as he looked at the old woman, at her face, and at the bag on her hand which was filled with vegetables.
"Zaque! Did you come here to fetch your wife?" The old woman asked, a playful and teasing tone in her voice.
Half of the village population knows how much of a trash Coco Hughes is and how abusive she was to her husbands so with the old woman asking that, she basically just brushed off the abuse Zaque and the other husbands went through.
All because of what? Coco bringing monster meats and fruits from the forest?
Zaque frowned, his eyebrows furrowing deeper as he turned away from the old woman. How dare she? How dare she say that when Zaque is in her presence?
Coco could sense the sudden twist in the air so she immediately grabbed Zaque’s wrist, gently and weakly, and looked at her, nodding her head before dragging Zaque out of there.
The old woman was the cause of the negativity on the first husband’s bad mood after all.
Suddenly getting dragged away, warmth spreading on his wrist because of another person’s hand wrapped around his delicate wrist— Zaque could only let Coco drag him out of the market, his eyes glued to the hand of his wife.
They might have rejected Coco Hughes before because they didn’t want Coco to bed them, but that doesn’t mean that Coco Hughes herself didn’t reject them.
In fact, ever since Coco Hughes married Heiren, she had been actively avoiding going home then after she married Alhai she started blatantly showing her anger towards them and that was also when she started going to the pub in the Red Horse Inn.
She would just show them how much she hates them, but not raise a hand against them.
However, when she married Quizen, something must have snapped because she started beating them up. It started with a mere smack or slap, but then, it escalated soon to a full blown beating.
Since they were just mediators, their neighbors and other people who had witnessed Coco’s abusive tendencies, would ignore them.
There isn’t really discrimination between mediators and the two genders, but Coco Hughes was a daughter of a Baron. If they tried to stop her from doing whatever she wants, there is a chance that they will be humiliated and disposed of.
The abuse continued and Coco did not do any skin contact with them unless she was beating one of them or if one of them tried to stop her.
Well, except for now.
The warmth that spread from Coco’s hand to Zaque’s wrist was oddly comforting.
If she really was the Coco Hughes he knows, he would have reeled back in fear, anxiousness, and disgust— not wanting to be in contact with her in any way.
However, Coco’s hold around his wrists is not tight nor rough, it was gentle, weak, and light. It was as if she was afraid of hurting him and would rather not secure her hold on him.
Is that wishful thinking or is that really the case? He wants to know, but he knows that asking her will may upset him.
Coco continued to drag Zaque across the market, her eyes scanning the vendors around them for the things and materials she was looking for.
Her grip on the vegetables bag tightened when her eyes landed on the small store that has everything she needs.
"Come on." Coco said, pulling the first husband towards the store, her eyes surveying the materials on display to see what she could get for him.
Zaque frowned, his eyes landing on the supply store.
"What are we doing here?" He asked, his voice laced with doubt and confusion.
"To buy you things that you can use to bake." Coco answered, letting go of his wrist and walking closer to the displayed items.
Zaque couldn’t hear what she said because his eyes were on her hand the moment she let go of him.
Why would she let him go?
"I’m not a baker, but I know that you are quite knowledgeable in that area so tell me if you want anything, okay?" Coco hummed out, her eyes still glued to the wooden materials in front of her.
Just as Coco was about to touch a wooden bowl to know if it was smooth or not, the store owner came out, strutting his way towards the display with baking pans and frying pans, the sight of the pans on the man’s arms made Coco perk up.
"Sir, how much for those pans?" Coco asked, turning to face him with a delighted expression on her face.
The man smiled, the wrinkles on his face becoming more evident as he placed them on the wooden display, "The baking pan is a hundred silver coins and the frying pan is two hundred silver coins."
"Okay, I’ll have one each." Coco said, putting the bag of vegetables between her legs and slipped her hand inside the woven bag on her shoulder to get the pouch of money.
"Do you have any other baking tools? Measuring spoons, bowls, or mixing tools?" Coco asked as she opened the pouch and pulled out a single gold coin, "Bring me each of every baking tool you have, please."
The man’s eyes went wide as he accepted the coin from Coco, "Certainly! I’ll come back with the things you asked for. Please wait here, ma’am."
Coco smiled and watched the man scramble to get inside the store. She turned around, deciding to use that chance to buy flour, sugar, salt, and eggs for Zaque he could start as soon as possible.
However, the moment she took a step forward, she bumped into something solid and warm, making her nose scrunched up in pain and confusion.
Coco let out a groan and took a step back, "What are you doing standing there?"
