Chapter 45: Roasted belly
"I was just testing you because my wife said that you have changed." The owner of the inn stated, saying the reason behind his arrogance and condescending attitude he showed earlier.
"What?!" Lala gasped loudly, peeking her head out of Coco’s hair to look at the man before her human friend, "He’s married?!"
Same, Lala.. Same.. Coco thought, agreeing with the garden fairy’s startled reaction.
"Your wife?" Coco asked, forcing a smile on her face and clearing her throat, "May I know who she is? Was she one of the people I have interacted with for the past few days?"
The man nodded his head and tied the string around the bag of money, securing the gold coins inside.
"She brought those fruits and the rest of the tiger yesterday, Mrs. Hughes." He said, a chuckle slipping past his lips that sounded pleasant for the ears.
She..? But the one who brought the fruit with desperation and the rest of the tiger was— Coco’s eyes went wide when she realized who the man before her was married to, it’s the one and only..
"Mrs. Tani?" Coco gasped out, feeling like a detective that had just found out who the murder was from a buried case that had no leads or evidence.
The man nodded, a small pleased smile on his face upon watching Coco’s reaction.
"My name is Joachim Tani, call me Joachim." Joachim said, introducing himself since it was obvious that Coco doesn’t know who he is nor his name.
"I have to refuse.. It makes me feel honored, but I’m not sure if your wife will like it if I start calling you using your first name." Coco politely turned down the offer of addressing him with his first name.
"You don’t address people with their first name?" Joachim asked, raising his eyebrow at her, "You must be lovely at parties."
"I address my friends and husbands with their names." Coco smiled at him and looked past him, the woman walked out the kitchen and caught her attention, "Business partners or acquaintances will be addressed with last names no matter what, Mr. Tani."
"So, I’m an acquaintance?" Joachim asked, cocking his head to the side.
"Yes, you can say that." Coco agreed, confirming his speculation with a polite smile, "You were kind enough to let me pay my debt in installments and I appreciate that, a lot."
"But not enough to call me by my first name." Joachim retorted, a frown creeping into his pretty face.
Coco didn’t answer and just shrugged her shoulders, her eyes shifting from Joachim to the woman walking towards her table.
"It looks like my dinner is here." Coco spoke up, an underlying meaning behind her words, giving him a hint to leave the table because she is about to eat her meal.
However, Mr. Tani was stubborn as a mule as he did not budge nor stood up from the chair and instead, turned to his worker when she reached the table and started putting down Coco’s order.
"Bring me something to eat as well." Joachim ordered softly to the woman, "I need more time to discuss something important with Mrs. Hughes."
The woman nodded her head and rushed to get inside the kitchen, making Joachim shoot a mischievous smile towards Coco.
"Mr. Tani, as much as I love companies, it’s too bad that I don’t require it right now." Coco forced a smile and gritted out the words, holding herself back from telling Coco Hughes’s lender to leave her alone.
"Don’t worry about me." Joachim chuckled and pressed his palm on his cheek, "My wife told me to give you a chance.. I’m doing this for her. Besides, I did agree with the idea of payment installment, right?"
Coco shot him a glare, lips curling downwards as she grabbed the spoon and pork, stabbing the fork on the roasted flying pig belly while staring at the pink haired man before her.
"Right." Coco gritted out and huffed, deciding to ignore his existence and focused on her meal.
Coco cut a small portion of the belly and took a bite of the roasted pork, her lips closing around the tender, succulent meat.
The pork belly was perfectly roasted, the skin crispy and flavorful, and the fat cooked through to melt-in-your-mouth softness, making her body relax and melt because of how delicious it was.
Coco savored the flavor, her eyes closing in pleasure as she chewed.
She took another bite, her face softening with bliss and awe as she got carried away on a wave of delicious taste. The meal before her was truly a meal to be savored, and Coco took her time, enjoying every last bit of the roasted pork belly.
Every small portion she cut from belly is accompanied by a spoonful of rice, the mild taste of the white grains and the roasted pork perfectly mixing inside of Coco’s mouth, making her tighten her hold on the wooden utensils.
Just how could she have not eaten such delicious meat ever since she got transmigated in Coco Hughes’s body? She’s so glad to have encountered and killed that flying pig because when it’s cooked, its meat surpasses the level of heaven!
She felt a little regret of not having the chance to taste the poison tiger’s meat, but she felt so happy to be alive and got to have a chance to eat a flying pig’s belly.
Due to the food being delicious, mouthwatering, and five stars worthy, Coco had completely forgotten about Joachim’s presence and even accidentally ignored Lala’s calls, asking to have a taste of the roasted belly.
"This is sooooo good..!" Coco exclaimed, her eyes closed and mouth full as she complimented the good, "If I could catch a flying pig again, I will surely give this inn a free part just to eat this again!"
"Coco! Don’t eat all of it and make sure to leave some for me!" Lala reminded Coco, a look of worry on her face.
