New World with Four Husbands -
Chapter 40: Questions
Chapter 40: Questions
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Coco kicked the wooden surface of the door three times.
She used her foot to knock on the door because her hands are occupied with the sack of ham and the bag where the things she brought from Old Josh are.
"They better not be mad that you kicked the door." The fairy huffed and got off Coco’s shoulder, "I swear, if they tried to yell at you I will—"
The door suddenly opened which startled both Lala and Coco, the fairy stopped talking and Coco perked up, locking gaze with Zaque who had his red eyes as wide as saucers while looking at the sack and the bag.
"Hello, Zaque!" Coco greeted him with a smile, "May I come in? I need to drop off this meat and distribute something."
The first husband blinked, his eyes shifting from Coco’s hands to her face, to her hands, then to her face again, as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing before him.
"Zaque?" Coco called out to him, the genuine smile on her face turning forced because of the reaction she got from him, "Don’t worry, I won’t stay for too long."
Coco assured him, thinking that he doesn’t want Coco Hughes inside the house. Although, he should know that he’s not Coco Hughes anymore, but Coco Coison, right?
"Hey!" Lala exclaimed and squared up on Zaque’s face with her hands on her hips, "Answer if Coco’s asking you a question! She bought you a lot of things and even bought you food, but you can’t even answer her?! You’re a bad man!"
Zaque’s response to Lala’s outburst is simply a blink, as if he was snapped out of his daze.
"Ah.. Sorry." Zaque apologized quickly, stepping aside and opening the door further for Coco and the fairy, "Do forgive me, I was just taken aback. Please, come in."
"Finally!" Lala huffed out, the frown on her face evident just by hearing her tone, "I thought Coco has to stand outside of the house for forever because of you! Hmph!"
Coco could only sweat dropped at the fairy’s tantrums and let out a sigh before calling out to her fairy friend, "That’s enough, Lala. You might start getting white hair if you keep stressing yourself out."
"Gasp! What?!" Lala shrieked, gasping out of fright as she turn to Coco, "Is that true?!"
However, instead of answering the garden fairy’s question, Coco looked at Zaque.
"Thank you." Coco smiled and beamed at the red haired man before she straightened her posture and strutted her merry way inside the house, "I don’t know who can cook out of the four of you, but tell him to cook this as soon as possible."
Zaque closed the door and locked it, turning around to look at his supposedly wife with an unreadable look on his face.
Coco walked towards the table and placed the bag on top of it then she walked to the sink, dropping the sack of ham inside, "It might get spoiled if it’s not cooked immediately."
"What is the content of the sack and the bag?" The first husband asked, a forced smile on his face, but sounding a little reluctant.
"The sack has your food for the night until tomorrow morning. Have you guys cooked all the potatoes already? If not, you can use some of the potatoes to go with the ham." Coco said, informing him about the content of the sack and at the same time, giving him advice.
"Ham..?" Zaque’s smile disappeared from his face as his nose scrunched up in confusion.
Coco walked over to the bag and hummed in agreement as she started to pull out the soaps, essential oils, and teas, laying them on the table, "Mhmm, I caught a flying pig today and took the ham out of the display."
Zaque’s smile didn’t return, his eyebrows furrowed as his hands clenched into a tight fist, "Are you trying to kill yourself? Is that it?"
"Hey!" Lala exclaimed, her eyebrows furrowed and felt offended by Zaque’s question for Coco.
The woman on the receiving end of the question didn’t seem to pay any mind and continued pulling out the contents of the bag, "I’m not trying to kill myself, silly. I already died once. So, why would I do it and waste my chance to live a life in a world like this?"
"Then why are you hunting monsters? Jire forest is a dangerous place! Nobody comes out of there and comes back alive!" Zaque hissed, his clenched fists getting tighter and started to shake.
Coco stopped her movement and blinked.
She turned to Zaque and tilted her head in a confused manner, "But I’ve been going there every morning and come back in the afternoon.. I even spent a whole week in the forest, but nothing happened to me."
Coco hummed and pushed the bag to the side as she quickly added to her previous statement, "I get that you’re not worried about my well being, but for the debt under Coco Hughes. You don’t have to worry about it, okay? I can pay off the debt myself."
"That’s right!" Lala agreed with Coco’s words, "She can take care of the trash Coco’s debt and even make more money than five hundred gold coins! So, stop fussing over nothing!"
Coco snorted, amused at the fairy’s outbursts every now and then to protect Coco’s honor, "It’s fine, Lala. His worries are valid."
Lala whisked her head to Coco’s direction, her lips curling downward and her eyebrows furrowed into a frown as she let out a whine, "But Coco.."
"Drop it now." Coco said softly and shook her head, "Let them be. All of their feelings are valid."
"Agh! Why are you so kind?!" Lala whined loudly, kicking her feet in the air and ruffling her red hair in frustration, her wings flapping behind her faster.
Coco chuckled and turned to Zaque, catching him staring at her with an unreadable look in his eyes.
