Chapter 27: Healthy comfort food

Chapter 27: Healthy comfort food

After her interaction with Quizen, the blue haired beauty left her alone without uttering any response to her last statement.

She watched his back disappear from her sight, his form rigid and stiff, the scowl on his face was a clear sign that he was both offended and mad— the reason? She doesn’t know.

Coco huffed, rolling her eyes at him and went inside the room, just before she could close the door, a certain fairy rushed inside.

"Coocoooooooo!" The garden fairy cried out, slamming herself on Coco’s face as she didn’t know that her human friend would be standing right in front of the door, she pushed herself off and grabbed Coco’s cheeks, her eyebrows furrowed in worry.

"I saw that man from the stage on my way back! Are you okay?! Did he say something?! Did he do something bad?! Do I have to plant a cactus in his room, too?! Was he mean to you?!" Lala started tearing up as she asked the questions, her grip on Coco’s face tightening before she let out a loud cry.

"Waaahhh! I’m so sorry! He probably did something bad to you! I’m sorry I wasn’t here! Cocooooo!" Lala cried and hugged Coco’s face tightly, it was as if it was her fault for leaving Coco alone.

Coco could only let out a sigh through her nose and proceeded to close the door, locking it and making her way towards the bed.

She sat down on the mattress and pulled the fairy by her skirt, successfully pulling her away from her face.

"Cocoooo..!" Lala continued to cry, her eyes squeezed shut as more tears escaped from the corner of her eyes, "I’m so sorry! He must have said something mean to you, didn’t he?! You wouldn’t be this sad if he didn’t..!"

Cue to more big fat tears escaping, hiccups making itself known as the fairy continues to cry her heart out.

Coco let out a sigh and wiped the tears off the fairy’s cheeks using her thumbs, "I’m fine, Lala. I agreed on letting you follow that woman from earlier, didn’t I? We both didn’t expect the fourth husband to arrive so don’t blame yourself."

Coco tried to comfort the garden fairy, rubbing her cheeks and rubbing her against Coco’s cheek, but Lala was relentless with her tears. Instead of being comforted, the fairy cried harder and louder.

"So he really did something! Waaahhh!" Lala cried out, hugging Coco’s face with all her might, her tears sliding down her cheeks on Coco’s nose.

"It’s really fine, Lala." Coco insisted, rubbing her nose on Lala’s stomach like how she would do to a cat in her previous life, the fairy on her face smelled like strawberry sandwich— like the ones she would get from Japan’s convenience store and it made her hungry.

As if to agree with her, her stomach let out a loud growl, the sound resonated inside the room, making the fairy cease her cries and stare at Coco with wide, glistening eyes.

"You’re hungry..?" Lala let out a hiccup, followed by a sniffle as she backed away from Coco’s face, "Do you want to eat a fruit? Watermelon? Apple? Orange?"

It was fascinating for Coco how Lala was quick to stop crying when she heard Coco’s stomach growl like there’s no tomorrow. Coco couldn’t help, but feel embarrassed, her face heating up slightly.

"Anything is fine." Coco murmured, looking away from the fairy to not feel any shame any further.

"I’ll grow grapes, raspberries, rambutan, kiwi, and oranges for you since we don’t have a knife to cut open a watermelon." The fairy let out a series of sniffles, her eyes bloodshot from crying, but still didn’t think of herself and focused on Coco’s being.

The thought and sight of Lala worrying over her had made Coco’s heart swell with love and fondness.

"What about you, Lala?" She asked, watching as the red garden fairy flew over to the wooden table and tapped the surface.

Almost immediately, several branches sprouted from the surface of the table. Different kinds of fruit grew at an amazing speed on each branch, ripe and juicy fruits— shining in vibrant colors, plump, and looking delicious.

"I’m good, I don’t really get hungry." The fairy said, the sadness in her face still evident.

Coco sighs and stood up from the bed, walking over to the table and pulled the chair to sit down.

She plucked a single raspberry and put it inside her mouth, chewing the juicy fruit as she reached for another, she crushed it between her fingers until it was split open and gave it to Lala.

"Eat." Coco said, her words muffled because of the raspberry inside her mouth, "I don’t want to eat alone and let you feel down while I’m enjoying the fruits you grew for me."

Lala pouted, crossing her arms in front of her as she opened her mouth, "Feed me then. I’ll be happy and will cheer up if you do."

Coco giggled at the fairy’s cheeky ways, but didn’t comment on it. Instead, she split the raspberry into two and fed the half to her, taking another berry from the branch and feeding it to herself.

The fruits that the fairy garden had grown for her had served as a comfort food for them, making the rest of the night fly by smoothly.

When morning came, Coco had taken off the remaining fruit from the branches and asked Lala to remove the branches from the table. Sleepily, the fairy did as she was told and made the branches disappear.

Wordlessly, the fairy flew on top of Coco’s head and situated herself there before she fell asleep again, letting Coco do whatever she wanted for the day.

With the raspberries, kiwi, and grapes placed securely on Coco’s tattered robe, she exited the room and locked it on her way out. She turned the doorknob left and right, checking if it can be open despite being locked.

"Time to sell these fruits and make money."
