Chapter 204: Village Chief
Chapter 204: Village Chief
"Here’s the batch for today." Coco said, putting down the basket on the floor.
"Thank you." Mrs. Tani smiled and handed Coco a pouch of money, the coins inside clinking and the sound resonating inside the shop.
"As always, it was lovely to do business with you!" Coco exclaimed, exiting the Magia Pierre and making her way further into the town to go to the village’s hall where the village chief is supposed to be.
"We delivered the poison tiger to the butcher shop and delivered the fruits to the Magia Pierre, is that all we have to do today?" The garden fairy asked, flying over to Coco’s head.
"Mhmm." Coco answered wordlessly, her footsteps light and quick.
As soon as she left the house after she had breakfast, she immediately made her way back to the inn to get the basket.
It didn’t take her long to get out of the village and walk to the bottom of the mountain, she did not have to go to her usual spot to have Lala grow the fruits and had it done by the foot of the mountain.
She was also lucky enough to encounter a poison tiger in the middle of harvesting the citrus fruits.
So, when she came back to the village, she was carrying a dead poison tiger on her shoulders with a basket filled with delicious fruits on her back.
She didn’t have to bring back any monster because there was still some meat in the butcher shop, but she figured that she may as well take down the poison tiger rather than let it roam around the forest, right?
The work she had done only lasted after eating her lunch because she felt incredibly happy and light.
After her conversation with the mediators, she felt like a heavy weight was lifted off her shoulders and chest— making her feel better than she had ever felt before.
The thought of leaving Coco Hughes’ husbands alone in the village doesn’t feel right for her because she does not know if she’ll be able to send money weekly just as she promised, but the desire to explore the world a little overcomes that thought.
She had been staying in the village for almost two months now, but she still had not explored the world.
Well, she had Jonathan accompany her to Yolo Village, but that was only because the third husband asked her to buy books.
If it weren’t for Alhai’s quest and request, she wouldn’t have gone out of the village to go to another village because she’s quite clueless at the moment— she can’t just ask someone to tell her about everything without them getting suspicious.
With the thought of exploring the world outside the Yogusho Village, her walk towards the village’s hall became quick and short.
Coco walked through the street, her footsteps quiet and steady as she made her way toward the village hall.
Her expression was strangely blank, her gaze flickering from the buildings around her to the people passing by as she moved with purpose, her shoulders squared and her stride brisk, her mind focused on her destination.
She ignored the people in the street, her attention focused on making headway down the path, her mind already planning ahead to what needed to be done when she got there.
"I hope the chief is free.." Lala murmured, wishing the best for her human friend.
Coco could only hum as an agreement, making her strides faster than earlier with her eyes glued to the building by the end of the path— just before Old Jin’s store.
Coco arrived in front of the village hall, her gaze taking in the tall structure that loomed above her.
The building was made of large stones, the heavy blocks of stone arranged in neat rows to form a solid, strong wall with the roof was made of clay tiles, the dull brown material contrasting with the bright blue of the sky.
The stone steps leading up inside the hall looked solid and clean, making it clear to the passerby that the stairs are cleaned on a daily basis.
The sun was beginning to lower, but its light shone off the glass windows and made the building sparkle like a jewel in the afternoon light which made the whole building pleasing for her aesthetic loving eyes.
Coco sighed, her shoulders relaxing slightly as she took in the sight of the building.
Now that she’s standing before the building where the village chief was known to be working, she could not stop her heart from racing.
Those thugs told me that all I have to do is talk to the village chief to get the permit. Coco thought to herself and heaved deeply, gathering enough courage to walk through the door to get what she needed.
"What’s wrong, Coco?" The garden fairy asked, immediately noticing the way Coco cowered slightly.
"Nothing, I’m just chickening out, but don’t worry! I can do this!" Coco hyped herself up, her heart still racing from anxiety as she slowly stepped towards the stone stairs.
"Yeah! You can do this!"
"Of course, I can!" Coco agreed with the person who hyped her up as well, pumping her hands in the air—
Coco jumped, startled by the sudden sound of someone unfamiliar speaking to her.
She had been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn’t heard anyone approach, her mind occupied with the thought of hyping herself up to get inside the hall.
Her pulse beat rapidly as she whirled around to see who had surprised her, eyes wide and her heart pounding in her chest, her breathing ragged as she tried to catch her breath and a scream almost jumped out of her throat when she saw who hyped her up.
"Good afternoon." A woman with purple hair and strikingly gold eyes greeted her, a large grin on her lips as she waved her hand.
"Village chief—" Coco gasped, scrambling to get away from the woman.
"Yes, that’s me! The village chief."
