New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 203: Decision

Chapter 203: Decision

The stoic yet loving mediator before them looking torn and guilty made them ashamed of themselves.

Heiren had been taken care of by Zaque when Coco Hughes first lashed out on him a month after he got married to her, Zaque patched him up and lulled him to sleep because he was so afraid to sleep alone.

He had to ask Zaque to come with him every once in a while just to avoid Coco Hughes inside their own home and Zaque went along with his whims.

When Alhai got introduced to Coco Hughes, everything had been fine for a while.

However, a week after their marriage, Coco went back to her previous ways and had started taking her anger out to the third husband.

She had started to make the pub her own home at this time, but was still sober enough to go home every time.

When Quizen got married to her, Zaque had started to hire some workers to have their second floor reconstructed so each husband could have a room that they could call their own.

So, when Coco Hughes decided to come home drunk and out of her wits, she wouldn’t be able to attack any one of them in their sleep.

Of course, Zaque doesn’t have much money to pay the workers on his own so he decided to get half of Coco Hughes’ money, that was given by Baroness Hughes, to pay the workers for their hard work.

Coco Hughes didn’t notice the missing money from her stash because she would either be too drunk or pass out by the time she had walked inside her room.

Zaque had done everything he could to accommodate every single one of them and had done everything he could within his power to protect them, letting Coco do whatever she wanted with him.

Fortunately, Coco Hughes doesn’t seem to be interested in him so she didn’t do much, but Alhai and Quizen on the other hand..

Coco Hughes seems to have a thing for the third and fourth husbands because they were the only ones that Coco had tried to attack so far, but those attempts were failures due to Zaque’s interference.

He did everything he could.

So, now that he’s asking for one thing from them— the very one thing that they don’t want, they are torn between letting it go for their friend’s sake or stop him from doing it.

Nothing will change my mind. Zaque’s words echoed in their mind, reminding them that whether they like it or not, Zaque will still go after Coco because he had grown to love the new Coco.

".. Is that decision of yours final, Zaque?" Heiren broke the silence and asked the question, his voice shaking slightly.

Heiren was the first person Zaque had befriended when they arrived in the village so Heiren wants the best for Zaque, but if he wanted to pursue the trash of a wife..

"It’s final." Zaque affirmed, making it clear that there would be no room for discussion.

"Then why are you apologizing and kneeling in front of us? What’s the point if you’re still going after her?" Alhai hissed, the heaviness inside his chest was making it hard for him to breathe.

"I’m apologizing because I ended up hurting the people I love." Zaque did not miss a beat to answer the third husband’s questions, "I wanted to show that I’m sincere even though I’m contradicting my own words."

"You’re really selfish." Quizen quipped, a sad smile creeping into his lips as he stared at the red haired mediator on the floor.

Zaque shifted on his knees and sat upright slowly, nodding his head.

"I am." Zaque agreed with a small smile, "I already know that our friendship will be strained after this, especially after I leave this house to go after Coco right now."

".. What would you do if Coco refuses to take you with her?" Heiren asked, making all of them turn their heads to him.

"I’ll go look for a job around the village." Zaque answered him as if it was the simplest thing in the world, "I could work until next week and save up enough money to get myself to the main city—"

"She wouldn’t allow that." Heiren mumbled, cutting Zaque off with a shake of his head, "Coco wouldn’t allow you to work just to come with her to the city. I’ve spent enough time with her to imagine the possibilities of what she will do once you come to her."

Zaque blinked slowly as he stared at Heiren before he nodded his head. "It’s such a relief to know that I’m not the only one who thinks so."

Heiren scoffed. "And I’ve known you long enough to know that you won’t back down from this."

"That’s what I said." Zaque stated bluntly, sighing weakly.

"Yeah.." Heiren smiled softly, but the sadness is still clear in the way he smiled towards Zaque, "Which is why, I’m going to tell you to do what makes you happy."

"Heiren—"

"Let him be, Alhai." Heiren shook his head and intentionally cut off Alhai, "Don’t you think he looks very serious about all this? He wants this, but we’re just stopping him from pursuing his happiness."

"How could Coco be Zaque’s happiness?! She caused his downfall—"

"She didn’t, okay?! Coco Hughes did, not Coco Coison!" Zaque exclaimed which caused Alhai to flinch in his position, his eyes wide in surprise.

"It’s okay, Zaque." Quizen’s voice has cut through the tension between the first and the third husband, "If Heiren is okay with all of this, then I’ll be fine with it, too. It will make you happy after all."

Zaque shifted his attention to Quizen, nodding his head in understanding.

"It’s your life so we don’t have any say in every decision you make, Zaque." Heiren said, the same sad smile still evident in his lips.

"I hope this decision of yours won’t break you." Heiren uttered those words from the bottom of his heart.
